Top 10: Great goals of the World Cup Published at 1/6/2020
|
In this article, we recall the top ten most beautiful,
important, and effective goals in the World Cup. Some of them are already
covered with the dust of history, but this didn't become less significant and
legendary because of that. Let's go!
Michael Owen (1998 World Cup). Goal against Argentina
Someone will say that this goal is not big enough
because of its low importance, because it didn't even help England win that
game - Argentina reached the quarterfinals, winning in the series of penalties.
But who could have imagined 20 years ago that a young boy would just pick up
and ride around, like on a bicycle, all the vaunted defense of the Argentine
team and put the ball into the top corner of the goal with an incredible blow?
Thus began the story of the new owner of the Golden Ball and the Golden Boy of
English football, who, however, somewhat "oiled" his brilliance with
the second part of his career. But it all started with this miracle goal!
Joe Gaetjens (1950 World Cup). Goal against England
All the great goals of the World Championships and
videos about them are stored in the archives of television channels and in the
memory of fans, but this ball is an exception to the rule. The US forward Joe
Gaetjens scored a goal that led to the most important sensation in the history
of World Cups, namely, the defeat of the Ancestors of football, England, from
the US team in 1950. But this goal wasn't normally fixed on the film - all you
can see is the moment of impact, and the second the ball turns out in the goal
net.
But later, the historical injustice was fixed. More
than one documentary and even a feature film called" The Game of Their
Lives" was shot about Gaetjens's goal and about that Americans' victory.
The match went down in history as a "Miracle on the grass." Some
still can't believe that this happened. And these people can be understood: no
one could even see the goal that went down in history.
Geoff Hurst (1966 World Cup). Goal against Germany
We can't ignore this legendary and ambiguous goal.
England defeated Germany at home World Cup 66 in the final thanks to a phantom
goal. The goal, which apparently never happened, because the ball didn't
completely cross the goal line, according to recent studies in this area.
However, now no one can take that victory from the British. But maybe their
karma has suffered because since then they have never been managed to win a
single major football tournament.
Dennis Bergkamp (1998 World Cup). Goal against Argentina
The fate of the quarterfinal of the French Mundial in
1998 was decided by the incredible Dutch football player Dennis Bergkamp. The
way he "drove" the opponent's defender feint Roberto Ayala deserves
special respect but coupled with the subsequent elegant blow past Carlos Roa,
Bergkamp's actions can be called magic. This is certainly a worthy exhibit in
the collection "Great Goals of the World Championships."
Gerd Müller (World Cup 1974). Goal against Holland
It would seem that there's nothing special about
Gerd Müller's goal?
He took the ball, processed it and immediately scored a goal. But there are two
circumstances - this "simple" goal brought the Bundesteam a victory
at the homeworld championship, and yes, Gerd Müller scored
almost all of his goals so simply and easily. And that's his genius. (as well
as the fact that he had a great number of simple goals).
Alcides Ghiggia (World Cup 1950). Goal against Brazil
This goal went down in history as a blow to the entire
Brazilian nation. Only at Maracanã Stadium. On this day, almost 200.000
spectators visited the final of the 1950 World Cup. And there were millions of
Brazilians at the TV screens and at the radio receivers; all of them were in
the deepest shock after this blow of the Uruguayan Ghiggia,
who took away their dream. Brazil lost that home final with a score of 1: 2,
and the country couldn't come to their senses for a long time after this match,
which turned into a national tragedy. Soccer was then much more than just a
game.
Carlos Alberto (World Cup 1970). Goal against Italy
After 20 years, the Brazilians no longer cried but
rejoiced. In the finals of the World Cup, Celesao defeated Italy with a
crushing score of 4: 1, and Carlos Alberto put a spectacular point in this
battle. What is the feature of this goal? The fact that it turned out to be
truly ingenious in terms of team play. In those days, football appeared only in
the minds of its discoverers, but this goal of Carlos Alberto was his precursor
and indicator of the total dominance of the Brazilian national team around the
world.
Jairzinho (World Cup 1970). Goal against England
Earlier in the same tournament, the Brazilians showed
a master class in playing football to his ancestors - the British. The same
spectacular team goal was scored to the gate of the "Three Lions,"
and its author was Jairzinho. As it turned out, that day, the world champions
passed the torch to the next owner of the main football trophy of the world.
Diego Maradona (World Cup 1986). Two goals against England
Two goals scored on our list belong to the great
Argentinean Diego Maradona. It can be said that these goals reveal all the
greatness, ambiguity, and all the football cunning Diego Armando could fully
boast of. The first goal scored not without the help of a hand, will subsequently
be called "A Hand of God"...
... And the second goal, which no one will ever be
able to complain about because God scored it. God of football from Argentina!
