Breaking news: New Orleans is unlikely to trade for New England Patriots Pro Bowl Corner & Super Bowl 49 hero Malcolm Butler due to draft pick price. Just because something is unlikely does not make it impossible.

The main issue with the trade right now lies with the Saints, since the Patriots just want a first round pick that is not #32. The Saints could have the issue of having two first round picks in the draft this season and needing to keep their higher selection, where the Saints will not give up #11 to get the deal done, under the reasoning that the Saints need to rebuild now and find the best players possible.

Here are reasons, despite these difficulties, a deal can get done:

1. New Orleans had one of the worst defensive units last season, finishing 27th in total defense, including DEAD LAST in Pass Defense.      http://www.espn.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/total/position/defense

2. Kind of a two in one, Jarius Byrd is gone and Kenny Vacarro have not performed to expectations (as of yet). Their two current starters at Corner are Stephone Anthony and Delvin Breaux. Based on their efficiency, an upgrade is desperately needed at the position, since Anthony may be a decent option as a slot Corner at best; not #1.       http://www.neworleanssaints.com/team/depth-chart.html

3. The Saints got a total of 30 sacks last season (27th in league), so two picks should be used on pass rushers, since this issue was not addressed in free agency.

4. With further development to the offensive line and uncertainty with the offense (Brandin Cooks gone, Mark Ingram not fitting the offense, Drew Brees not getting younger), the Saints need to obtain their starters on defense this year and not put off rebuilding.

5. New England has been wheeling and dealing for many years, consistently getting picks for moving back in the draft, trading their picks for first round flops from other teams, or getting higher round picks for the next years draft.

So... how does a deal get done for the Saints to get Malcolm Butler and the Patriots to get a first round pick (potentially for Richard Sherman?)?

The answer is in the explanation: what do the Patriots like to do? Take their current assets and make them more valuable for the future. The answer lies in the FUTURE. A trade like this HAS to happen for both teams.

Patriots get: New Orleans Saints 2018 1st and 2nd round Picks

From this trade, both teams get assets. For instance, New Orleans could really benefit from an extra third round pick to work out a trade with a team higher on the draft board for a player they did not expect to fall.

Examples: CB Marlon Humphrey, OLB Haason Reddick, ILB Reuben Foster or S Jabrill Peppers (just a few examples) is unexpectedly available at #26; New Orleans could use #32 and #72 (picks worth 820 value points) to get pick #106 and trade to #26 (picks worth 782 points) to select their defensive player of choice to patch up their struggling defensive unit.
