Why the Seahawks will have the best backfield for the next decade

I know it's a bold statement, but i truly believe Seattle be the dynasty of running backs for years to come. I mean come on, i know it's not the most believable statement but you look at the youth of Seattle's running backs and the talent of Seattle's running backs, for me it's not hard to imagine both Rashaad Penny and Chris Carson being on the same team for the next ten years or more. The Seahawks backfield consists of rookie first-round pick Rashaad Penny, second year pro and rookie standout-before-getting-brutally-injured-in-early-October and phenom Chris Carson, last years leading rusher amongst running backs in Mike Davis, a young but oft-injured C.J. Prosise, and a do-it-all back in J.D. McKissic. I'm excited about each and every one of them. With Penny, you got a speed back, with numerous opportunities to become a threat in both the rushing and passing game. Last year while Penny was at San Diego State, he racked up 2,248 rushing yards with an outstanding 7.8 ypa, and 23, count 'em 23 rushing touchdowns, not to mention he ranked 5th in the Heisman voting, pretty good accomplishment for a player in such a small conference, while bringing a little more production in the passing game, Penny's numbers at the end of the season read like this: 2,383 apy, 7.5 ypp, and 25 td's, resulting in him being named 2017 Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year. As a backup in 2016, while not piling up as many yards or touchdowns as he did the next year, he showed he can still be a very valuable asset even if he's not given the starting role, Penny still got over the 1,000 yard mark as a backup to Donnel Pumphrey. Expect the Seahawks to use Penny in as many ways as possible (he is also very good in the return game). It wouldn't surprise me if Penny ended the season with over 2,000 all-purpose yards and double-digit touchdowns on the road to becoming 2018 Rookie of the Year. One person who can prevent that all from happening is Chris Carson, who can threaten to take Penny's starting job in 2018. In his brief playing time in 2017, Carson impressed coaches and staff members, and basically the whole NFL before going down with a broken fibula in week four match up against the Indianapolis Colts. Through the first three games of last season, Carson outplayed and eventually took the starting job of Eddie Lacy, he averaged 4.2 yards per carry with only 42 attempts which is mostly in part to his injury, but if he continued at his pace he would have easily amassed 1,000 yards, not to mention Chris was a seventh-round pick (#249), and was a long shot to even make the roster at the beginning of the year. Nothing but good reports about Carson have come out of minicamps this year. Coaches and players have both come out and said that Carson looks better than he did in 2017, he reportedly packed on an extra 10 pounds this off-season, so Rashaad Penny's quest to be the number 1 back in Seattle this year will not be as easy as originally thought. Mike Davis has shown some promise as a future play maker for this team, just look at his tape against the Philadelphia Eagles for instance. Davis led all running backs in yards last season, it's not really an impressive feat when you factor in how bad the backs were last season, he only had 240 yards. But 240 yards for a number 3 back makes the Seahawks run game a whole lot more dangerous. Now Prosise is the tricky one. He's struggled with injuries like i said before, but if he can get back to his play at Notre Dame... HOLY COW we will have some deep depth at running back, but for now Prosise is on the roster bubble, his injuries along with his inconsistent play makes it hard for me to believe Prosise is a lock even at the back of the roster. J.D. McKissic is a player i loved during the 2017 season, when Carson went down with his injury in October against the Colts, McKissic filled in at running back and had a stellar game, compiling two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving both were incredible plays by J.D., on the first he weaved through the Colts defense, breaking tackles along the way to a 30 yard td, his first as a Seahawk, the next he make a sensational adjustment on the ball and jumped and caught mid-air in between two defenders even while being interfered with (although not called) by Jon Bostic, he also caught another wide open td catch against the Eagles and helped Seattle beat the eventual world champs by 10. McKissic has obvious talent and it sadden me deeply if the Seahawks don't keep him around for at least another year. The 'Hawks got depth theirs no denying it but only time will tell how well they use that depth.
