2013 NFL Mock Draft: Round 2

The order of this 2013 NFL Mock Draft is loosely based on my 2012 NFL Power Rankings.

33. Jacksonville Jaguars: Brennan Williams, OT, North Carolina
    Right tackle Cameron Bradfield has not played well in limited action this year. The Jaguars will want to protect their new quarterback. By the way, if you're looking for Jake Matthews, I've decided to exclude him in this update. It's not like he needs the money, and I feel like Bruce will want his son to get his degree.

34. Kansas City Chiefs: Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee
    Kansas City's new quarterback will need a new receiver if Dwayne Bowe leaves. I wouldn't spend the money on Bowe; he's overrated because he's inconsistent and piles up most of his stats in garbage time. He was responsible for both of Matt Cassel's interceptions against the Ravens.

35. Tennessee Titans: Dallas Thomas, OT/G, Tennessee
    Will the Titans finally upgrade the interior of their offensive line, or are they content with Chris Johnson gaining just 2.9 yards per carry?
    
    
    
    
    
36. Cincinnati Bengals: T.J. McDonald, S, USC
    The Bengals had a big need at safety, but they didn't address the position until the fifth round this past April. They'll put more effort into finding an upgrade the following offseason because they won't survive with Reggie Nelson and the recently benched Taylor Mays (for cornerback Nate Clements, who is playing out of position) as their starters.

37. Carolina Panthers: Carrington Byndom, CB, Texas
    The Panthers will need some cornerback help this offseason. Captain Munnerlyn will be a free agent, while rookie Josh Norman has yet to prove that he can be a quality starter in the NFL.
    
    
38. Miami Dolphins: David Amerson, CB, N.C. State
    The Dolphins have an extra second-day pick because they dealt Vontae Davis to the Colts, so they should probably use one of them on a replacement. Richard Marshall is not playing well.

39. New York Jets: Tyler Bray, QB, Tennessee
    If the Jets don't go with a quarterback in the first round, they almost have to take a chance with one on Day 2 - unless, of course, Tim Tebow steps in and saves the day like he did for the Broncos last year.

40. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jesse Williams, NT, Alabama
    Gerald McCoy is having a fantastic season, but the Buccaneers need help next to him after dismissing Brian Price prior to the beginning of the season.

41. Cincinnati Bengals: C.J. Mosley, ILB, Alabama
    The Bengals have major problems at linebacker. They lost Keith Rivers this past offseason, Manny Lawson will be a free agent in the spring, and Rey Maualuga is arguably one of the worst defensive starters in the NFL. I don't know if he's hurt or what, but he's been awful this season.

42. Buffalo Bills: Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia
    The Bills drafted a quarterback in the first round, so they'll need to find a weapon for him. Steve Johnson is currently the only downfield play-maker on Buffalo's roster.

43. St. Louis Rams: Tank Carradine, DE, Florida State
    Jeff Fisher loves having defensive line depth, but his team is currently lacking that right now. Why not take one of the top players available to fill that void?

44. Dallas Cowboys: Kenny Vaccaro, S, Texas
    The Cowboys traded up for a cornerback in the 2012 NFL Draft, but they still need help in the secondary because their safety play is atrocious. Barry Church really needs to be upgraded.

45. San Diego Chargers: Dion Jordan, DE/OLB, Oregon
    The Chargers just spent an early pick on a rush linebacker (Melvin Ingram), so why would they do that again? Well, Shaun Phillips will be a 32-year-old free agent next March, so San Diego will need a complement for Ingram.
    
    
46. Philadelphia Eagles: Tony Jefferson, S, Oklahoma
    Kurt Coleman beat out Jaiquwan Jarrett, who was recently waived. Coleman's not any good, despite his two picks of Brandon Weeden, so the Eagles will have to look for another solution.

47. Detroit Lions: Jordan Poyer, CB, Oregon State
    It's no secret that Detroit has major holes in its secondary. The Lions spent an early pick on Bullet Bill Bentley has been a bit of a disappointment thus far. It's still early though, so maybe he can improve as the season goes along.

48. Minnesota Vikings: Marquess Wilson, WR, Washington State
    The Vikings have to add more talent to complement Christian Ponder. They need an upgrade across from Percy Harvin, as Jerome Simpson is way too inconsistent to be a No. 2 receiver.
    
    
49. Washington Redskins: Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington
    The Redskins are really hurting for cornerback depth, and it'll only get worse after the 2013 season when Josh Wilson will be a free agent and DeAngelo Hall will be due $9 million in a contract year.

50. Arizona Cardinals: D.J. Fluker, OT, Alabama
    This is a pretty obvious selection. The Cardinals have pressing offensive line issues that they'll absolutely need to resolve next spring. If they want to keep Kevin Kolb at quarterback, they'll need to protect him because he's so brittle.

51. Miami Dolphins: Kenny Stills, WR, Oklahoma
    I'm not sure if Brian Hartline qualifies as a No. 1 receiver just yet. I can't really explain the whole thing myself, but he appears to be a starting-caliber wideout despite his zero-catch performance against the Rams. The Dolphins, however, need another one for Ryan Tannehill, who needs a better second option than Davone Bess, who should just be a tertiary slot receiver target.

52. Pittsburgh Steelers: Sean Porter, DE/OLB, Texas A&M
    James Harrison may not be back next year. He'll be due $6.6 million as a 35-year-old who is having trouble staying healthy. The Steelers may spend an early pick on a rush linebacker.

53. Seattle Seahawks: Dion Sims, TE, Michigan State
    Adding play-makers for Russell Wilson has to be a priority for the Seahawks this offseason. Help is also needed at tight end.

54. Chicago Bears: Shayne Skov, ILB, Stanford
    Brian Urlacher's successor. Urlacher will be a 35-year-old free agent this upcoming offseason and he's struggled this year. His declining play is probably the result of his knee injury, but will Chicago re-sign him if it fears his body is breaking down? Even if the front office does retain him, Shayne Skov can play strongside linebacker and slide into the middle once Urlacher moves on.

55. Denver Broncos: Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida
    The Broncos spent a second-rounder this past April on Derek Wolfe, but he's playing defensive end and moving inside on nickel situations. That's why Denver still needs a ton of help at defensive tackle, especially after that pathetic showing against New England's running game.

56. Baltimore Ravens: Michael Mauti, ILB, Penn State
    The Ravens wanted Dont'a Hightower, but the Patriots moved ahead of them and stole him. Maybe Ozzie Newsome will find his successor for Ray Lewis next April. Lewis is out for the year with torn triceps. His career could be over.
    
    
57. San Francisco 49ers: Khaled Holmes, C, USC
    The 49ers could use some help on the offensive line. Khaled Holmes could eventually take over for Jonathan Goodwin, who will be 34 in December.
    
    
58. Atlanta Falcons: Larry Warford, G, Kentucky
    Peter Konz will eventually move to center and replace Todd McClure, but the Falcons will still need an upgrade at right guard.
    
    
59. New England Patriots: Travis Frederick, G/C, Wisconsin
    Bill Belichick loves versatile offensive linemen. Travis Frederick can play all three inside positions. This is key because the Patriots need to do something about the interior of their offensive front. Tom Brady has gotten killed at times because of poor blocking.

60. Green Bay Packers: Da'Rick Rogers, WR, Tennessee Tech
    Greg Jennings will be a free agent in March. He's proven to be unreliable in terms of staying healthy, so the Packers may choose not to re-sign him. If so, they may target a receiver early in the 2013 NFL Draft.

61. Houston Texans: Margus Hunt, DE/DT, SMU
    The Texans, with very few needs, can afford to take the best player available. Antonio Smith will be a free agent following the 2013 season, so Houston will need someone to step in starting in 2014.
    
    
62. New York Giants: Khaseem Greene, LB, Rutgers
    The Giants have issues in the middle of their defense. The safety position is a problem, as is inside linebacker. Chase Blackburn shouldn't be starting, while Keith Rivers, a free agent in March, can never get healthy.
