2013 NFL Not Draft

THIS IS NOT A 2013 NFL MOCK DRAFT. Click the link to see my real 2013 NFL Mock Draft. This is a 2013 NFL Not Draft - a compilation of popular mock picks that, in my opinion, will not happen. For the record, I was wrong about zero "not" picks in my 2012 Not Mock (which means I was right about none of my projections not happening).

1. Kansas City Chiefs: Dion Jordan, DE/OLB, Oregon
   This pick is coming down to Luke Joeckel or Eric Fisher. It's probably the former, based on what's been posted in the 2013 NFL Draft Rumors page, but the Central Michigan product still has a shot. I can't see it being Dion Jordan. There has been speculation out there that Jordan will be the pick, but that just doesn't make any sense. What would the Chiefs do with Tamba Hali and Justin Houston upon obtaining Jordan? That pick would be like the Lions selecting Geno Smith. It's not logical at all.

2. Jacksonville Jaguars: Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan
   There are some mocks that are projecting the Jaguars will select the Central Michigan left tackle to play on the right side, but I don't see it. Why not? Take a look at the 2013 NFL Free Agent Offensive Tackle Rankings. Notice that Andre Smith, Tyson Clabo and Eric Winston are all available. This is an indication that NFL teams don't value the right tackle position highly. If that's the case, why would Jacksonville fill its right tackle need so early?
   
   
3. Oakland Raiders: Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama
   The Raiders need a cornerback, so why wouldn't they take Dee Milliner? Well, Milliner is not an elite cornerback prospect; he's not as good as Patrick Peterson or Morris Claiborne coming out, so why would he become the first cornerback to go in the top four since Charles Woodson in 1998? Oakland will likely go with one of the defensive tackles at No. 3.
   
   
4. Philadelphia Eagles: Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama
   I'm doubling up on the Alabama prospect. Dee Milliner is still being discussed as an option for the Eagles, but I don't see it. Once again, Milliner just isn't good enough to be the first top-four cornerback since Charles Woodson. He has just six interceptions in three years and never had to backpedal. He'll have to work on his technique. That doesn't sound like a top-five pick to me.
   
   Philadelphia signed Cary Williams and Bradley Fletcher in free agency, so while the position still needs to be addressed, it's not a major need anymore. This selection will likely come down to Eric Fisher, Geno Smith and Lane Johnson (via trade). Dion Jordan is only an outside option because there's a logjam at the position, plus he may not make it past Jacksonville anyway.
   
   
   
   
   
5. Detroit Lions: Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma
   If the Eagles take Eric Fisher, I'll be shocked if the Lions panic and reach a bit for Lane Johnson. That's just not their style. Martin Mayhew picks the top player on his board. There's just a minuscule chance that would be Johnson. It's more likely that he has Ezekiel Ansah rated ahead of the Oklahoma tackle.
   
   
6. Cleveland Browns: Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia
   All the Browns have at quarterback is Jason Campbell and Brandon Weeden, but don't look for them to draft Geno Smith. They're targeting a defensive player, but most of all, they want to move down. The Chargers, Saints and maybe the Dolphins are desperate to land Lane Johnson, so Cleveland holds a very valuable spot in the 2013 NFL Draft.
   
   
7. Arizona Cardinals: Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia
   The Cardinals traded for Carson Palmer, but Geno Smith apparently wasn't an option at No. 7 before that. As you can see in the 2013 NFL Draft Rumors section, there were lots of reports indicating that Arizona wasn't considering Smith despite his natural fit in Bruce Arians' offense.
   
   
8. Buffalo Bills: Any Defensive Player
   I've seen pass-rushers like Jarvis Jones and Ezekiel Ansah linked to the Bills, but that doesn't make much sense to me. First of all, they signed Manny Lawson in the offseason and still have Mark Anderson on the roster. Second, and more importantly, Buffalo spent so much money on its stop unit last spring, and that didn't get the team anywhere. General manager Buddy Nix has discussed upgrading the quarterback, receiver and tight end positions, so he'll focus on those.
   
   
   
   
   
9. New York Jets: Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia
   This is the last spot for Geno Smith. I've been asked if the Jets would take Smith if the West Virginia quarterback slipped down to No. 9. I don't think they would. Mark Sanchez makes so much money that they have to keep him, so they might as well give him another chance just to make sure he's not a sunk cost. Plus, the media has been making tons of excuses for him, as usual. This New York team is so devoid of talent that it doesn't matter whom it drafts at this spot. This is a 2-year rebuilding process.
   
   
10. Tennessee Titans: Any Defensive Tackle
    I've never understood the fascination with mocking a defensive tackle to the Titans. Tennessee is pretty deep at the position. Jurrell Casey and Mike Martin were a pretty good tandem last year, and the team has solid depth with Karl Klug, Ropati Pitoitua and Sammie Lee Hill. The Titans just have too many other holes to fill.
    
    
11. San Diego Chargers: Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma
    The Chargers could definitely draft Lane Johnson, but it won't be at this spot. If San Diego plans on sitting and waiting for Johnson to fall to them, the front office will be very disappointed. There's such a demand for left tackles that some team is bound to move up for the Oklahoma product.
    
    
12. Miami Dolphins: Any Defensive End
    I had a tough time finding a "not" pick for the Dolphins, so I might as well discuss several prospects. I've seen some mock drafts slotting a defensive end to the Dolphins. While Miami does need an upgrade across from Cameron Wake, whom would it take at No. 12? Bjoern Werner's stock has fallen, so he would be a reach. Barkevious Mingo is a 3-4 player. Ezekiel Ansah will not be available. It's too early for Tank Carradine because he's coming off a torn ACL. Datone Jones? He's probably the most-likely end to be chosen at this spot, but that's a pretty slim shot.
    
    
    
    
    
13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia
    I've been told not to mock Tavon Austin here after doing so for a couple of weeks, so I'll listen to my sources.
    
    
14. Carolina Panthers: Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida
    Mocking Sharrif Floyd to the Panthers may seem pretty ridiculous, but I've actually seen a couple of mocks that had the Florida product fall all the way to No. 14. There is no way that happens. Floyd is way too good of a prospect to fall out of the top five; let alone the top 13.
    
    
15. New Orleans Saints: Any Inside Linebacker
    I've never mocked an inside linebacker to the Saints, but based on something we've heard from sources, New Orleans won't be looking at Alec Ogletree, Manti Te'o, Arthur Brown or Kevin Minter at this spot.
    
    
16. St. Louis Rams: Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia
    I don't believe in the notion that picks that are too popular can't happen. It's occurred before. Dre Kirkpatrick to the Bengals comes to mind last year. But here's the thing with Tavon Auston at No. 16 - there's just way too much of a buzz around the speedy wideout for him to fall into this convenient spot. The Rams will have to move up if they want Austin. Fortunately for them, they have the ammunition to make that happen.
