The order of this 2014 NFL Mock Draft is based on my NFL Power Rankings.
-
Houston Texans: Antonio Richardson, OT, Tennessee
As mentioned earlier, teams that spend early picks on quarterbacks often double up on offense. If the Texans decide to do that, they could certainly upgrade the right tackle position, which is a big problem area for them.
Follow @walterfootball for updates.
-
Washington Redskins: Allen Robinson, WR, Penn State
The Redskins must improve their defense, but they also have to focus on upgrading the receiver position. A No. 2 wideout is needed. By the way, check out our NFL Draft Team Rumors for a report about the Redskins wanting to move into the first round.
Pick change; previously Stephon Tuitt, DE/DT
-
Cleveland Browns: Carlos Hyde, RB, Ohio State
The Browns apparently plan on courting Ben Tate in free agency, but what if he chooses to sign elsewhere? Carlos Hyde is the type of running back Cleveland is looking for per our NFL Draft Team Rumors page.
Pick change; previously Allen Robinson, WR
-
Oakland Raiders: Scott Crichton, DE, Oregon State
No quarterback yet? I considered Derek Carr here, but as I mentioned, the Raiders need to add blue-chip players to their roster because they don't have any currently under contract. Oakland needed another pass-rusher across from Lamarr Houston this past season, and now Houston happens to be an impending free agent.
-
Atlanta Falcons: Xavier Su'a-Filo, G, UCLA
The Falcons have some major issues on the offensive line. Everyone wants to look at left tackle, but the guard position is an area that must be upgraded as well.
-
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Ryan Shazier, LB, Ohio State
New defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier discussed the middle linebacker position as a need for the Buccaneers. Ryan Shazier would be a nice fit.
Pick change; previously Brandin Cooks, WR
-
Jacksonville Jaguars: Ka'Deem Carey, RB, Arizona
Maurice Jones-Drew is an impending free agent (go here to check out my 2014 NFL Free Agent Rankings). He'll likely want to leave such a terrible situation, so the Jaguars will need to find a new running back.
-
Minnesota Vikings: Derek Carr, QB, Fresno State
I know I've had Derek Carr at No. 8 in my previous updates, but I've discussed him being a reach at this juncture. He has great value here, so the Vikings certainly wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on him in Round 2 unless they really dislike him. That doesn't appear to be the case, as the Vikings met with Carr extensively during the Senior Bowl.
Pick change; previously Gabe Jackson, G
-
Buffalo Bills: Brandin Cooks, WR, Oregon State
This offseason has to be all about building around E.J. Manuel. Buffalo already upgraded its offensive line; now it has to find a potent weapon for the second-year quarterback. Stevie Johnson won't be around much longer, so a new receiver is needed.
Pick change; previously Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE
-
Tennessee Titans: Dee Ford, DE/OLB, Auburn
The Titans are moving to a 3-4, yet they still need a better pass-rusher. Dee Ford could be chosen in the first round, so he's a steal at this juncture.
Pick change; previously Tre Mason, RB
-
New York Giants: Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia
The Giants have to improve their pass protection unless they want Eli Manning to once again come close to setting the NFL single-season record for interceptions.
Pick change; previously Carlos Hyde, RB
-
St. Louis Rams: Dion Bailey, S, USC
St. Louis' defense came on late in the season, but it struggled at times during the year for a couple of reasons. One was the play of safety Rodney McLeod. He wasn't terrible, but it's clear that the Rams need to find an upgrade next to T.J. McDonald.
-
Detroit Lions: Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State
The Lions have to consider a cornerback early in the 2014 NFL Draft if they don't sign one in free agency. They looked helpless against several of the better quarterbacks they faced this past year.
Bradley Roby is slotted pretty low in this mock because he played poorly this previous season. He's also had some off-the-field issues. I think the Lions would take a chance on him though.
Pick change; previously Travis Swanson, C
-
Pittsburgh Steelers: Marcus Roberson, CB, Florida
The Steelers have to address the cornerback position. Ike Taylor was dreadful this past year, as the receivers he battled - save for A.J. Green, oddly enough - posted season-high totals against him.
-
Dallas Cowboys: Lamarcus Joyner, S, Florida State
Dallas had horrible safety play all year. An upgrade in this area would have allowed it to beat Philadelphia in Week 17.
-
Baltimore Ravens: Jordan Matthews, WR, Vanderbilt
It should be quite apparent that the Ravens desperately need help at receiver. Neither Jacoby Jones nor Marlon Brown should be a No. 2 wideout in the NFL. Think Joe Flacco misses Anquan Boldin?
-
New York Jets: Kyle Van Noy, DE/OLB, BYU
The Jets have a great interior pass rush, but they need to become more potent on the outside. I mocked Kyle Van Noy to the Jets in the first round during the season, so he has to be considered a steal at this juncture.
Pick change; previously Dee Ford, DE/OLB
-
Miami Dolphins: Tre Mason, RB, Auburn
The Dolphins don't trust Lamar Miller at all, while Daniel Thomas isn't very good. They'll likely be searching for a new starting running back this spring.
Pick change; previously Bishop Sankey, RB
-
Chicago Bears: Loucheiz Purifoy, CB, Florida
Chicago was able to re-sign Tim Jennings recently, but Charles Tillman's contract is expiring soon. The Bears have to deal with Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford twice per year, so they'll definitely look to upgrade their secondary with multiple selections.
-
Arizona Cardinals: Jeremiah Attaochu, DE/OLB, Georgia Tech
The Cardinals, who typically go with the top player on their board, will almost definitely be interested in someone like Jeremiah Attaochu, as they really need an upgrade at outside linebacker across from Sam Acho. John Abraham, 36 in May, won't be effective much longer.
Pick change; previously Kyle Van Noy, DE/OLB
-
Green Bay Packers: Trent Murphy, DE/OLB, Stanford
The Packers need pass-rushing depth in the event that Clay Matthews gets hurt again. As Charlie Campbell reported, the Packers are very interested in Trent Murphy.
-
Philadelphia Eagles: Ed Reynolds, S, Stanford
Philadelphia's defense was terrible for many reasons, one of which is the safety position. Nate Allen is an impending free agent, while Patrick Chung is absolutely terrible.
-
Cincinnati Bengals: Jack Mewhort, OT, Ohio State
The Bengals will want to look at the left tackle position this offseason depending on what happens. Anthony Collins, currently manning that spot now, will be a free agent (go here to check out my 2014 NFL Free Agent Rankings). Cincinnati moved Andrew Whitworth inside to compensate for injuries, but the team may want to keep him there as he enters his mid-30s. A long-term blind-side protector is needed.
Pick change; previously Bradley Roby, CB
-
San Francisco 49ers: Davante Adams, WR, Fresno State
The 49ers could easily double up on receivers if Anquan Boldin leaves. The team is currently projected to re-sign Boldin, but what if contract negotiations don't go smoothly?
-
San Diego Chargers: Gabe Jackson, G, Mississippi State
The Chargers have some issues on the interior of their offensive line. Both Chad Rinehart and Rich Ohrnberger are impending free agents, while Jeromey Clary continues to struggle at his new position.
Pick change; previously Michael Sam, DE/OLB
-
New Orleans Saints: Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska
The Saints have some issues at cornerback with Jabari Greer's status being uncertain. Greer, who tore his ACL in November, is due $4.4 million next season as a 32-year-old.
-
Indianapolis Colts: Chris Borland, ILB, Wisconsin
The Colts need help all over their defense, including the linebacking corps, where the injury-prone Pat Angerer will be a free agent this March.
-
Carolina Panthers: Jarvis Landry, WR, LSU
Steve Smith is slowing down, while Brandon LaFell hasn't proven that he can be a consistent starter. Oh, and Ted Ginn, who hates me, happens to be a free agent. The Panthers need to bolster their receiving corps.
Pick change; previously Morgan Moses, OT
-
San Francisco 49ers: Craig Loston, S, LSU
The 49ers spent a first-round pick on a safety last year, but they may have to use another selection on one with Donte Whitner heading into free agency.
-
New England Patriots: Travis Swanson, C, Arkansas
Ryan Wendell, an impending free agent, has been most responsible for Tom Brady's poor pass protection.
Pick change; previously Weston Richburg, C
-
Denver Broncos: Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech
You have to wonder what the Broncos plan on doing at cornerback in 2014 and beyond. Champ Bailey and Quentin Jammer will be 36 and 35, respectively, in June. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, meanwhile, will be a free agent in March.
-
Seattle Seahawks: Paul Richardson, WR, Colorado
Golden Tate and Doug Baldwin are both impending free agents, but the Seahawks can do better at receiver anyway. I'm sure Cris Carter would agree.
