The order of this 2014 NFL Mock Draft is based on my NFL Power Rankings.
-
Houston Texans: Storm Johnson, RB, Central Florida
The Texans will be searching for a backup running back this offseason with Ben Tate bound to sign elsewhere.
Pick change; previously Jerick McKinnon, RB
-
Washington Redskins: E.J. Gaines, CB, Missouri
The Redskins just re-signed DeAngelo Hall, but he won't be around much longer. Here's a possible long-term solution.
Pick change; previously Bruce Ellington, WR
-
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Lamin Barrow, ILB, LSU
The Buccaneers need to get stronger in the middle of their defense, and they've apparently taken a liking to Lamin Barrow, as you can see in the NFL Draft Prospect Meetings List.
-
Jacksonville Jaguars: Mike Davis, WR, Texas
Considering that Justin Blackmon is suspended indefinitely, the Jaguars will want to add some depth to their receiving corps.
-
Cleveland Browns: Victor Hampton, CB, South Carolina
The Browns could use an upgrade across from Joe Haden, but this pick is about adding needed depth at the position.
Pick change; previously E.J. Gaines, CB
-
Seattle Seahawks: Richard Rodgers, TE, California
There's a chance Zach Miller won't be back next year, so the Seahawks will have to find another tight end to go along with Luke Willson.
Pick change; previously Jaylen Watkins, CB
-
Atlanta Falcons: Seantrel Henderson, OT, Miami
As you can read in our 2014 NFL Draft Rumors page, offensive line coach Mike Tice really took a liking to Seantrel Henderson at the Senior Bowl.
-
Minnesota Vikings: Kelcy Quarles, DT, South Carolina
The Vikings used one of three first-rounders on a defensive tackle last year, but they may have to double dip at the position with Kevin Williams hitting free agency.
-
Buffalo Bills: Anthony Steen, G, Alabama
The Bills never replaced Andy Levitre, so they'll need to do something about the guard position.
Pick change; previously Jaylen Watkins, CB
-
Jacksonville Jaguars: Jordan Zumwalt, LB, UCLA
The Jaguars upgrade yet another level of their defense; their linebacking corps beyond Paul Posluszny is putrid.
Pick change; previously Richard Rodgers, TE
-
Tennessee Titans: Logan Thomas, QB, Virginia Tech
The Titans don't have a young quarterback behind Jake Locker whom they can groom, unless you want to count Tyler Wilson.
Pick change; previously Khairi Fortt, ILB
-
New York Giants: Ego Ferguson, DT, LSU
Linval Joseph will command a huge contract this offseason, so the Giants may not be able to retain him.
-
St. Louis Rams: Will Sutton, DT, Arizona State
Based on his contract, Kendall Langford won't be around for much longer in St. Louis. The Rams will have to find someone who will be able to take over as soon as 2015.
-
New York Jets: Phillip Gaines, CB, Rice
Here's more help for the secondary. Antonio Cromartie will be a cap casualty this offseason.
Pick change; previously Khairi Fortt, ILB
-
Miami Dolphins: Tyler Larsen, C, Utah State
The Dolphins appear to be standing by Mike Pouncey, who was part of the entire bullying scandal. However, Pouncey is also dealing with some other issues, so Miami could look for a center in the middle rounds.
-
Chicago Bears: Aaron Murray, QB, Georgia
If Josh McCown leaves, the Bears won't have anyone capable behind the oft-injured Jay Cutler.
-
Pittsburgh Steelers: Andre Williams, RB, Boston College
The Steelers will probably look to use a mid- or late-round pick on a running back for depth purposes.
-
Dallas Cowboys: Jon Halapio, G, Florida
The Cowboys have a pretty weak collection of guards, so they could look to bring in someone at the position.
Pick change; previously Michael Sam, DE
-
Jacksonville Jaguars: Walt Aikens, CB, Liberty
The Jaguars definitely need some help at corner to help combat Andrew Luck.
-
Arizona Cardinals: Jeremy Hill, RB, LSU
Rashard Mendenhall is a free agent, but that's for the best because he stinks. The Cardinals have to find someone to split carries with Andre Ellington.
-
Green Bay Packers: Khairi Fortt, ILB, California
The Packers released Desmond Bishop during the previous offseason. On top of that, the rapidly aging A.J. Hawk will have an expiring contract soon. Ted Thompson will have to address the inside linebacker position in the near future.
Pick change; previously Kenny Ladler, S
-
Philadelphia Eagles: Dri Archer, RB/WR, Kent State
I wanted to slot Dri Archer earlier, but the Kent State product is a weapon I'm sure Chip Kelly would love to have in his offense.
-
Kansas City Chiefs: Charles Leno, G/OT, Boise State
The Chiefs will be making multiple selections for their offensive line if they can't address the area in free agency.
Pick change; previously Anthony Steen, G
-
Cincinnati Bengals: David Fales, QB, San Jose State
The Bengals will keep sticking with Andy Dalton, but they'll need to develop a quarterback just in case Dalton can't get them over the first-round hump.
Pick change; previously Logan Thomas, QB
-
San Diego Chargers: Michael Sam, DE/OLB, Missouri
I think this is a good spot for Michael Sam. The Chargers took a chance on another linebacker who was a "distraction" last year, and Manti Te'o didn't exactly ruin things. San Diego is a relatively small market, so that helps.
Pick change; previously Storm Johnson, RB
-
Indianapolis Colts: Ed Stinson, DE/DT, Alabama
I mocked Datone Jones to the Colts for a while in the 2013 NFL Draft because they need a pass-rushing presence up front. That's still a hole they have to fill, as we learned by watching Indianapolis fail to pressure Carson Palmer in November.
Pick change; previously Charles Leno, G/OT
-
New Orleans Saints: Deandre Coleman, DE/DT, California
The Saints, who are still transitioning into their 3-4, could use some depth up front behind Cameron Jordan and Akiem Hicks.
Pick change; previously Will Clarke, DE/DT
-
Carolina Panthers: Aaron Lynch, DE, South Florida
Greg Hardy was franchised. Here's some insurance just in case the Panthers can't lock him up with a long-term deal.
Pick change; previously Michael Schofield, OT
-
Philadelphia Eagles: Justin Ellis, NT, Louisiana Tech
The Eagles are another team in Year 2 of a scheme change that needs to add 3-4 depth personnel to the defensive front.
-
San Francisco 49ers: Gabe Ikard, C, Oklahoma
Jonathan Goodwin probably won't be back with the 49ers. Daniel Kilgore will take his place, but San Francisco will have to find a reserve center.
Pick change; previously Bryan Stork, C
-
Denver Broncos: James Hurst, OT, North Carolina
The Broncos are considering moving Orlando Franklin inside, which would open up a big need at right tackle.
-
Seattle Seahawks: Nevin Lawson, CB, Utah State
The Seahawks will also need depth at corner, given what has happened with Brandon Browner. Walter Thurmond is a free agent as well.
Pick change; previously C.J. Fiederowicz, TE
