Last update: Sunday, April 13, 2014. A mock draft with 10 trades!

  1. Houston Texans: Jadeveon Clowney , DE , South Carolina
I have the Texans taking Blake Bortles in my real 2014 NFL Mock Draft, but as I wrote on that page, Houston isn't sure what it's doing right now. It's 50-50 on Bortles and Jadeveon Clowney. From reading in between the lines, it seems as though Clowney may end up being the pick.

Either way, Houston is almost certainly not dealing this pick, so this won't be one of the 10 trades in this particular mock draft.

  2. Minnesota Vikings: Blake Bortles , QB , UCF
    *** Trade 1: Minnesota trades a 2014 second-round pick, 2014 third-round pick and 2015 second-round pick for the No. 2 overall selection. ***

The Vikings want Blake Bortles, but they're out of position to draft him. They'll have to trade up; possibly to No. 2 to leap the Jaguars and Browns if the Texans end up taking Jadeveon Clowney. There's no chance Bortles makes it to No. 8, so Minnesota will probably have to settle for a linebacker (Anthony Barr) and then Zach Mettenberger in Round 2, as Tony Pauline reported.

  3. Atlanta Falcons: Khalil Mack , OLB , Buffalo
    *** Trade 2: Atlanta trades a 2014 second-round pick for the No. 3 overall selection. ***

Conventional wisdom says the Falcons will trade up to the second spot, but they could also move to No. 3 overall if Blake Bortles ends up going second. Atlanta really needs a pass-rushing linebacker, and it would be happy with either Jadeveon Clowney or Khalil Mack.

  4. Cleveland Browns: Greg Robinson , OT , Auburn
This pick is the same as in my real 2014 NFL Mock Draft, so I'll use this space to mention that someone on Facebook asked me why I hate the Browns. I answered: "Because their colors are orange and brown."

I hope he knows that I was kidding. I don't hate any team, just like I don't like any team. If I'm overly critical of your team, it just means that your team is probably doing stupid things, like firing coaches and general managers after one year. I hate to break it to you, but that's the truth.

  5. Detroit Lions: Sammy Watkins , WR , Clemson
    *** Trade 3: Detroit trades a 2014 second-round pick for the No. 5 overall selection. ***

Does this need much of an explanation? The Lions have shown so much interest in Sammy Watkins that they've all but erected a statue of him outside of Ford Field. As my LVH Supercontent partner Matvei joked, "So, when the Lions trade up for Watkins, does Martin Mayhew rip off his mask and reveal that he's been Matt Millen this entire offseason?"

  6. Jacksonville Jaguars: Anthony Barr , OLB , UCLA
The Jaguars took a second-round pick to go from Khalil Mack to Anthony Barr. That's fine, given that some respected scouts and former personnel men prefer the latter. Jacksonville can go quarterback and center in Round 2.

  7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Mike Evans , WR , Texas A&M
I wanted some team to trade up and leap the Buccaneers for Mike Evans, but I couldn't find a scenario that made much sense. Tampa has to love the sound of that, as Evans could be its future No. 1 receiver.

  8. St. Louis Rams: Taylor Lewan , OT , Michigan
The Rams once again pick up a boatload of picks to move down several spots. They'll have tons of options in the next two second rounds. As for this spot, I feel as though they would choose Taylor Lewan over Jake Matthews because the former is a fiercer run blocker. Plus, Jeff Fisher won't care about Lewan's off-the-field issues.

  9. Buffalo Bills: Jake Matthews , OT , Texas A&M
Sorry, Bills fans, but this is the same pick I have in my regular mock. Maybe I would have come up with a cool trade for your team if your colors weren't red and blue...

  10. Oakland Raiders: Derek Carr , QB , Fresno State
The Raiders want to trade down and still obtain Derek Carr. Mission accomplished. Oakland can use one of its two second-rounders to add a tackle (Morgan Moses) to protect Carr. The other can be a defensive player like Timmy Jernigan.

  11. San Francisco 49ers: Justin Gilbert , CB , Oklahoma State
*** Trade 4: San Francisco trades two 2014 second-round picks for the No. 11 overall selection. ***

Boom. Big move by the 49ers. And it's probably happening. Armed with two second- and two third-round choices, San Francisco has the ammunition to move up. The team may make a move for Mike Evans if he somehow gets past the Buccaneers. If not, the 49ers may pursue the consensus No. 1 cornerback in this class to fill a huge need.

  12. New York Giants: Aaron Donald , DT , Pittsburgh
What did I say about teams with blue and red colors? Enjoy your boring pick, Giants fans.

  13. St. Louis Rams: Darqueze Dennard , CB , Michigan State
Actually, these four picks will be boring. My apologies, but predicting a trade for every single selection would be completely unrealistic.

  14. Chicago Bears: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix , FS , Alabama
Once again, sorry, but Ha Ha Clinton-Dix just seems like such a great match for the Bears and what Phil Emery looks for in a prospect.

  15. Pittsburgh Steelers: Eric Ebron , TE , North Carolina
Speaking of great matches... This is the last of the boring picks on this page. Go to my 2014 NFL Mock Draft for analysis of this selection.

  16. Arizona Cardinals: Calvin Pryor , FS , Louisville
*** Trade 5: Arizona trades 2014 third-round pick for the No. 16 overall selection and sixth-round pick. ***

The Cardinals will have to leap the Ravens for Calvin Pryor. They may just do so because their safety situation is a disaster area. Pryor would figure to be a huge upgrade.
