WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 5, Pick 4 - Overall: 139 C I’m not crazy about this pick, as I had Jordan Magee slotted as a late-round prospect. This reach isn’t very egregious, however, and it also makes sense for the Redskins to draft a linebacker. I imagine Magee is going to spend most of his career on special teams. |
J. MaGee LB |

WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 5, Pick 3 - Overall: 138 B+ Xavier Thomas is a project, so this is the right time to select him. He’s very fast and athletic, but didn’t produce very much at Clemson. Perhaps the Cardinals can turn him into something good. There isn’t too much risk here in the fifth round. |

WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 5, Pick 2 - Overall: 137 B We didn’t have Tarheeb Still ranked. I saw him in the seventh round of some mocks. In other words, this is a reach, but we’re in the fifth round, so something like this isn’t worthy of a Millen grade – but it’s close. |

WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 5, Pick 1 - Overall: 136 B Is this the next great Seahawks cornerback to be chosen in the middle rounds? I love the value, as Nehemiah Pritchett easily could have gone in the third round, and maybe even the second. Pritchett can cover tall receivers well, so he fits here for the Seahawks. |
N. Pritchett CB |
SFO |
WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 4, Pick 35 - Overall: 135 B+ A second receiver to the 49ers makes sense, given some impending trades at the position. Jacob Cowing is a very fast receiver with upside who makes sense here at the end of the fourth round. |
J. Cowing WR |
NYJ |
WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 4, Pick 34 - Overall: 134 B The Jets needed a backup running back, given that Breece Hall isn’t too far removed from his torn ACL. Braelon Allen should complement Hall well, as Allen is a huge back who can also catch passes well. |
B. Allen RB |
KCC |
WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 4, Pick 33 - Overall: 133 B What a great value here for the Chiefs at the end of the fourth round. Jaden Hicks is a play-making safety prospect who easily could have gone in the second round. Adding more talent to the secondary makes sense, given all the great passing offenses in the AFC. |
J. Hicks S |
DET |
WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 4, Pick 32 - Overall: 132 B I don’t think the Lions needed to trade up for Sione Vaki, who fits the range as a fourth-round prospect. Vaki is just a mediocre prospect, but he does fill a need, as Detroit needed to find more help for the secondary. |
S. Vaki S |
KCC |
WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 4, Pick 31 - Overall: 131 B A future replacement for Travis Kelce? Jared Wiley was a very productive and greatly sized player from TCU. Dr. Wiley makes sense late in the fourth round, so this is a decent pick all around. |
J. Wiley TE |
BAL |
WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 4, Pick 30 - Overall: 130 A+ Another steal for the Ravens. What a shocker! T.J. Tampa could have been selected in the second round without any complaints, yet the Ravens are getting him toward the end of the fourth. And if that wasn’t enough, Baltimore is filling a huge need. |
T. Tampa CB |
SFO |
WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 4, Pick 29 - Overall: 129 C+ Wow, what a total shocker that Kyle Shanahan used a mid-round pick on a running back! I don’t think the 49ers needed to trade up for Isaac Guerendo, but they’re getting an under-the-radar prospect. Guerendo is a big back who tested much faster than some people thought. We had him around this fourth-round range. |
I. Guerendo RB |
BUF |
WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 4, Pick 28 - Overall: 128 B+ Ray Davis is a tough, physical back who can catch passes well, so he complements James Cook well. This is a solid move for the Bills, as Ray Davis could have been chosen 20-30 picks earlier without any complaints, and he fills a need. |
R. Davis RB |
PHI |
WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 4, Pick 27 - Overall: 127 A Will Shipley had some third-round consideration, so the Eagles are getting a good value after trading down. It’s not a surprise that they drafted a running back, given that Saquon Barkley has an extensive injury history. Shipley is an efficient runner who can be a solid receiver out of the backfield. |
W. Shipley RB |
DET |
WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 4, Pick 26 - Overall: 126 MILLEN Sorry, Lions fans, for giving you a Millen grade, but this isn’t the best selection. Giovanni Manu is a late-round prospect, so had Detroit made this pick a round later, I wouldn’t have minded it. However, surrendering a third-round pick in 2025 to get him is a huge mistake. A huge, kielbasa type of mistake. |

TBB |
WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 4, Pick 25 - Overall: 125 B+ Bucky Irving could have gone a bit earlier than this, so I like the value for the Buccaneers. The pick makes sense as well. Bucky Irving is a shifty and quick runner who can compete for early-down snaps with Rachaad White, who is a terrific receiver but a mediocre runner. |
B. Irving RB |
SFO |
WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 4, Pick 24 - Overall: 124 C- This is an underwhelming pick by the 49ers, as Malik Mustapha projects as a career backup and a potential core special-teamer. The 49ers could have made this or a similar pick two rounds later. |
M. Mustapha S |
HOU |
WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 4, Pick 23 - Overall: 123 B- The Texans moved up four spots for a tight end. This doesn’t address a need, but Cade Stover is a solid receiving tight end. His blocking is not very good, but he can be a weapon for C.J. Stroud, albeit at a crowded position. |
C. Stover TE |
CHI |
WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 4, Pick 22 - Overall: 122 MILLEN Punters grow on trees. You can find a good one anywhere, including some back alley in the slums. Wasting a fourth-round pick on a punter is irresponsible, especially when the drafting team has only four picks! |
T. Taylor P |
SEA |
WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 4, Pick 21 - Overall: 121 B The Seahawks lost a couple of tight ends this offseason, as two of them inexplicably signed gargantuan contracts elsewhere. Here’s a cheap replacement. A.J. Barner makes sense as a fourth-round prospect as a solid Y-tight end prospect for the NFL. |
A. Barner TE |
MIA |
WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 4, Pick 20 - Overall: 120 MILLEN I like Jaylen Wright and thought he should have been chosen in the third round. However, why would the Dolphins surrender a third-round pick to acquire him. They have a solid running back stable, so they didn’t need to give up an important resource like this. |
J. Wright RB |
PIT |
WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 4, Pick 19 - Overall: 119 C- I can’t hate on any pick the Steelers use to address their dreadful offensive line. However, this is a reach, as Mason McCormick was considered a sixth- or seventh-round prospect. He has some upside, but is extremely raw. |
M. McCormick G |
SEA |
WALT'S FIRST TAKE! Round 4, Pick 18 - Overall: 118 B+ The Seahawks lost so many linebackers this offseason, so it’s not a surprise to see them address the position with this pick. Tyrice Knight was a very productive player out of UTEP,a and he’s considered by some as a mid-round sleeper. |
T. Knight LB |
