Philadelphia Eagles Upcoming 2024 Draft Picks (8)
Grade: A
Wow, not a Georgia or Alabama player? Who kidnapped Howie Roseman? This is actually a great pick, and I'm happier about my Eagles 17/1 Super Bowl bet. There was talk about Quinyon Mitchell going No. 13 to the Raiders or No. 15 to the Colts, so the Eagles are getting great value with arguably the top cornerback in the draft at No. 22 overall.
Grade: A+
The Eagles have multiple second-round picks, so it makes sense that they would trade up, especially for a talented defensive back like Cooper DeJean. The Iowa product is very versatile and possesses high upside with his great athleticism. He should have been chosen in the first round, so I love this pick. I also am a big fan of the Eagles being aggressive with their Super Bowl window being wide open.
Grade: A
I mocked Jalyx Hunt to the Eagles in the second round of my re-draft ahead of Friday. Jalyx Hunt is a project, but he has immense upside and could be a Pro Bowler one day. It's not a surprise that the Eagles are landing a talented player who can contribute in the future.
Grade: A
Will Shipley had some third-round consideration, so the Eagles are getting a good value after trading down. It's not a surprise that they drafted a running back, given that Saquon Barkley has an extensive injury history. Shipley is an efficient runner who can be a solid receiver out of the backfield.
Grade: B
Any secondary player makes sense for the Redskins, given how poor they were against the pass last year. I figured Dominique Hampton would go around the Round 4-6 range, so he's a logical pick for the Redskins, though he'll play mostly on special teams this year.
Grade: B
The Jets traded Zach Wilson, so they needed to find a long-term answer after Aaron Rodgers retires. Jordan Travis is coming off a horrible lower-leg injury, but it's not like he's going to have to play any time soon, so the Jets will be able to develop him.
Grade: A-
No one should be surprised that the Eagles are drafting an offensive lineman. Trevor Keegan was a steady and solid guard for Michigan for three seasons. He's a stout run blocker, but must improve in pass protection. He'll have time to do that sitting behind some talented starters. He could have gone a round or even two earlier than this.
Grade: A+
Here's an absolute steal for the Lions, as Christian Mahogany got some third-round consideration. He has some injury stuff from the past, but if he can get over it, he can eventually emerge as a starter. The Lions needed a guard after losing one to free agency.
Walt's Mock Selections as of 4/22/2024 -View Current Mock Draft
Round: 1

The Eagles always draft with long-term plans in mind, rather than focusing more on just the season ahead. With that in mind, a tackle makes sense at this pick because Lane Johnson turns 34 soon. He could regress or declare for retirement any year, so the Eagles may want to be prepared.
Amarius Mims has gotten lots of positive feedback from the scouting community. He has a tremendous skill set and lots of upside.
Round: 2

The Eagles have two stud receivers, but nothing beyond them. They need a better third wideout.
Ladd McConkey projects as a gritty slot receiver at the next level.
Round: 2

The Eagles had horrific play from their cornerbacks this year. They'll need to address the position on multiple occasions this offseason.
Kamari Lassiter has the upside to be a cover cornerback in the NFL.
Round: 4

The Eagles can continue to add to their secondary, as they need some help at safety as well.
Tykee Smith is short, but has good instincts.
Round: 5

The Eagles signed Saquon Barkley, but they'll still be looking for a running back in the middle rounds.
Daijun Edwards has speed, vision and plus athleticism.
Round: 5

The Eagles have two studs at receiver, but nothing else beyond them.
Ainias Smith is a quick, shifty route-runner who is dangerous with the ball in his hands.
Pick change; previously Darrian Dalcourt, G/C
Round: 5

The Eagles could bolster the defensive line earlier than this with Fletcher Cox gone.
Tyler Davis doesn't have great upside, but he's been a disruptive force in the interior of the defensive line.
Round: 6

It wouldn't be an Eagles draft if the front office didn't obtain an edge rusher at some point.

2023 NFL Draft Selections and Grades
A Drafting Darnell Wright over Peter Skoronski is interesting, as it means the Bears really didn't think he could play left tackle for them. Wright certainly can. He's an athletic tackle who didn't surrender a sack to Hendon Hooker last year. He also shut down Will Anderson. Justin Fields has to be thrilled about this selection.
A+ LOL wow. How did the Eagles land Nolan Smith when they easily could have selected him at No. 10? This is ridiculous, but as the adage goes, dumb teams make dumb picks, and the smart teams benefit. The Eagles are going to have an absurd defensive front that will demolish every quarterback in their path.
C- The Texans had to move up for a center and not a receiver? Really? Juice Scruggs isn't even a great value here. I think he's a solid prospect and fills a need, but I don't get why Houston gave up a resource for him.
D Michael Wilson is not someone I would have drafted in this range. He's a huge receiver and runs routes well, but there are some serious speed concerns. He also has major injury question marks.
B Antoine Green was an inconsistent player at North Carolina. He has some deep speed ability, but he'll need to be a more consistent player to make it in the pros.
C+ Brandon Hill is an undersized safety who struggles to tackle. I didn't think he would be drafted, but we're entering UDFA territory anyway.
2022 NFL Draft Selections and Grades
A- Grade
The Vikings-Lions trade was shocking. The Eagles-Texans trade is not. This is the least-surprising move of the 2022 NFL Draft. It was rumored that the Ravens loved Jordan Davis, but the Eagles felt the same way about him. The Eagles envision the 350-pound athletic marvel to be a good replacement for Fletcher Cox, so he's not going to just play two downs. His weight is a concern, but the upside is as big as Davis.
B Grade
The Eagles lost Brandon Brooks to retirement this offseason, so they needed another interior lineman. Philadelphia fans will be upset this pick wasn't used on a linebacker, but Jurgens is a solid player who fills a need.
A+ Grade
The Eagles are having an amazing draft weekend. Their latest pick has just made things even better. Nakobe Dean is a first-round prospect who has fallen because of some injury concerns. Those apparently included a pec strain, but seriously, who cares about that? This is a mega steal. Unless Dean has Ebola or something, this pick must be graded as an A+, as Dean easily slots in and upgrades a horrible linebacking corps.
B+ Grade
Thayer Munford played tackle at Ohio State, but he can't handle edge rushers, so he'll have to play at guard. Pass protection will still be an issue, but he should run block well. This is nice value for him.
2021 NFL Draft Selections and Grades
A+ Grade
The Eagles had a chance to trade up with the Falcons for CeeDee Lamb last year. They didn't pull the trigger, which led to them squandering their first-round choice on Jalen Reagor. It seems as though Howie Roseman learned from his crucial mistake last year, making the jump over the Giants for the dynamic Alabama receiver. When Smith, known as the "Slim Reaper" dominated the college football playoff, I never imagined he would be the third receiver chosen in this class, yet here we are. The Eagles added a dynamic talent to their offense, which they sorely needed.
C Grade
Based on his ability alone, Landon Dickerson is worth this pick. He's a very smart center with excellent technique. Unfortunately, he suffered countless injuries at Alabama, so he's a major risk this early in the second round. He makes sense as an eventual replacement for Jason Kelce, but I would've tried to obtain Dickerson in the third round.
B+ Grade
The Panthers traded down a couple of times, so it makes sense that they finally moved up, giving a sixth-round pick to move up three spots. Brady Christiansen was someone I had in the third round, so this makes sense. It also addresses a need, as Carolina had to protect Sam Darnold on the blind side.
C Grade
I mocked Chauncey Golston to the Cowboys, but in the fifth round. He's a high-motor, high-effort player, but he's not very talented. The Cowboys could have done better, but this isn't a terrible pick.
A+ Grade
It'll be interesting to see why Marlon Tuipulotu fell in the 2021 NFL Draft. I had him in the third round, so this is amazing value. Tuipulotu also fills a need, given that the Eagles lost so much talent at defensive tackle recently.
B+ Grade
I wasn't sure if the team that drafted Jacoby Stevens would designate Jacoby Stevens as a linebacker or a safety. Now, we know. Jacoby Stevens is a tweener, but the Eagles needed help at both positions, so perhaps they'll be able to mold Stevens into a quality player for them. I had Stevens drafted earlier, so this is a solid value.
C+ Grade
Doug Pederson is gone, but the Eagles are still spending several picks to address the trenches. This is their third Day 3 pick spent on a defensive lineman. I didn't have Patrick Johnson in my mock, but the seventh round is the time to scoop up priority UDFAs.
B+ Grade
I put William Bradley-King into my seventh round, 18 picks earlier than this. A pass rusher obviously wasn't needed, but it's nice that the Redskins were able to get some depth. Bradley-King is an athletic player with upside, so this is a solid choice.
