Past Grades and Selections

2023 NFL Draft Selections and Grades

2023 Pick 25. (R:1 P:25) - Dalton Kincaid, TE, Utah A+ The Bills had some major problems in the red zone last year. Dalton Kincaid will help solve those issues. With all of the first-round receivers off the board, moving up for a top tight end prospect makes a ton of sense, especially when it comes to jumping Dallas, which really needs to address the position. Kincaid could have gone much earlier than this, so I love this value.

2023 Pick 57. (R:2 P:26) - John Michael Schmitz, C, Minnesota A I'm shocked the Giants didn't draft a receiver, given their huge need at the position. Then again, they also had a huge need at center, and John Michael Schmitz is someone who could have been drafted 15-20 picks earlier than this. I love the value and need fill.

2023 Pick 89. (R:3 P:26) - Kobie Turner, DT, Wake Forest
F - The Rams made fun of the Patriots for reaching last year. My, how the turntables have turned! Kobie Turner is a late-round prospect who is undersized. He should not have been chosen this early.

2023 Pick 128. (R:4 P:26) - Stetson Bennett, QB, Georgia
A+ The Rams have their quarterback of the future, something they needed with Matthew Stafford old and injured. Stetson Bennett is a great leader with an underrated arm. He's short, but that's his only downfall. Sean McVay should be able to develop him very well.

2023 Pick 160. (R:5 P:25) - Antonio Johnson, CB/S, Texas A&M A I've had Antonio Johnson in the third or fourth round of most of my mock draft updates, so I love the value with this pick. Antonio Johnson doesn't have great athleticism, but he's a tall cornerback who was productive at Texas A&M. He may have to move to safety in the NFL.

2023 Pick 172. (R:5 P:37) - Eric Gray, RB, Oklahoma
B+ I mocked Eric Gray nine picks earlier than this, so he makes sense as a fifth-round pick. The Giants needed someone like him, as they didn't have much behind Saquon Barkley. Gray has quality receiving skills.

2023 Pick 209. (R:6 P:32) - Tre Hawkins, CB, Old Dominion
B Tre Hawkins was a combine snub, but he made up for it with a great pro day workout to help him get drafted. He's a big cornerback with some potential. This is a solid pick for the Giants, who needed a cornerback.

2023 Pick 240. (R:7 P:23) - Derek Parish, FB,
C+ Derek Parish is an explosive pass rusher, but the problem is that he has a very small frame and lacks strength. He's a situational player at the very best.

2023 Pick 243. (R:7 P:26) - Jordon Riley, DT, Oregon
B Jordon Riley is a massive 340-pound nose tackle. He showed some surprising agility at his pro day, but keeping his weight under control will be an issue. He's worth a shot here in the seventh round.

2023 Pick 254. (R:7 P:37) - Gervarrius Owens, S, Houston
B- Gervarrius Owens has decent athleticism and size for a safety. However, he's very raw and lacks instincts, which is not good for a safety.

2022 NFL Draft Selections and Grades

2022 Pick 5. (R:1 P:5) - Kayvon Thibodeaux, DE, Oregon B+ Grade
Kayvon Thibodeaux, in a 15-minute combine interview, mentioned his brand five times to one team. Some wondered if Thibodeaux loved football fame more than football itself, and it's a legitimate concern. However, Thibodeaux is arguably the most talented player in this class, and he fills a huge need at edge rusher. The Giants need a tackle more, but they're fans of two tackles and can get one at No. 7.

2022 Pick 7. (R:1 P:7) - Evan Neal, OT/G, Alabama B- Grade
It's no surprise that the Giants are addressing offensive line with one of their two selections in the top 10. They must give Daniel Jones better protection in what could be his final chance to prove himself. Evan Neal fills a huge need, but his downside can't be ignored. Neal is 350 pounds, so he could be a major health risk. Many huge offensive linemen have had issues staying healthy, from Mekhi Becton, to Marcus Cannon, to Trent Brown. This is not always the case, but there's a dubious history with monstrously sized blockers.

2022 Pick 43. (R:2 P:11) - Wan'Dale Robinson, WR, Kentucky B Grade
So, does this mean the Giants are trading Kadarius Toney? Wan'Dale Robinson is a small, but explosive receiver. The position was not really a need unless the Giants were going to jettison Toney, but New York is getting a talented player with upside with this pick, so it's a solid move.

2022 Pick 67. (R:3 P:3) - Josh Ezeudu, OT, North Carolina
D Grade
Another offensive lineman makes sense for the Giants, but this is a reach, as Ezeudu was an early third-day prospect. Furthermore, the Giants had a golden opportunity to select a quarterback, but they passed on all options.

2022 Pick 81. (R:3 P:17) - Cordale Flott, CB, LSU
D Grade
The Giants needed a cornerback to replace the soon-to-be-traded James Bradberry, but they could have done much better than this. Cordale Flott is a fifth-round prospect at the very best, so this is definitely a reach. There were many better players available.

2022 Pick 112. (R:4 P:7) - Daniel Bellinger, TE, San Diego State
B- Grade
I've had Daniel Bellinger around this area or a bit later, so I don't think this is much of a reach. The Giants needed to address tight end with Evan Engram gone. I think there are some better tight ends available, but I don't dislike this selection.

2022 Pick 114. (R:4 P:9) - Dane Belton, Dane Belton, Iowa
C+ Grade
This pick is identical to the one the Redskins just made of Percy Butler. The Giants are reaching a bit for safety because the third-day value sucks at the position. This isn't a huge reach, like the Butler pick, but I'm not a fan of it.

2022 Pick 146. (R:5 P:3) - Micah McFadden, LB, Indiana
C Grade
The Giants are taking a late-round/UDFA prospect in the fifth round, which isn't ideal. However, it is Round 5, so reaches mean much less at this juncture. Linebacker is a need, so perhaps McFadden will beat expectations.

2022 Pick 147. (R:5 P:4) - D.J. Davidson, NT, Arizona State
C- Grade
Speaking of late-round/UDFA players, D.J. Davidson was never on my radar as someone to put in my mock draft. He declared early, and he's a big run-stuffer, but I'm not sure he'll be in the NFL in a couple of years.

2022 Pick 173. (R:5 P:30) - Marcus McKethan, G, North Carolina
B Grade
I'm a big fan of the Giants adding offensive help because C.J. Stroud or Bryce Young will sorely need it in 2023. Marcus McKethan never made it into any of my mock drafts, but he was always on the cusp.

2022 Pick 182. (R:6 P:3) - Darrian Beavers, OLB, Cincinnati
A Grade
Of the two NFC East teams that picked linebackers in the sixth round, the Giants made the better choice. Not only did they not trade up for Darrian Beavers; they obtained the superior prospect, as I had Beavers in the fourth round.

2021 NFL Draft Selections and Grades

2021 Pick 42. (R:2 P:10) - Liam Eichenberg, OT, Notre Dame A- Grade
Liam Eichenberg was usually slotted in this area in my mock draft; sometimes higher. He ended up at the end of the first round in my final update, so I like this value for the Dolphins, who needed to improve the offensive line. Miami must protect Tua Tagovailoa to help him succeed after a disastrous rookie year, and Eichenberg will help make that happen.

2021 Pick 76. (R:3 P:12) - Paulson Adebo, CB, Stanford B Grade
Paulson Adebo was once a mainstay of my first round, but he fell initially because of speed concerns. Then, he didn't help himself by foolishly sitting out the 2020 season. That said, the Saints are buying low on Adebo, so they could potentially be getting a starter across from Marshon Lattimore, which would fill a big need.

2021 Pick 116. (R:4 P:11) - Elerson Smith, DE, Northern Iowa
B- Grade
The Giants have maintained a lackluster pass rush for several years now, which is a departure from how they won the Super Bowl twice with Eli Manning. They needed players who can get after the quarterback, and Elerson Smith certainly has the athletic upside. This is a bit of a reach, but Smith's potential can't be ignored.

2021 New York Giants - Prospect:TBD

2021 Pick 201. (R:6 P:17) - Rodarius Williams, CB, Oklahoma State A+ Grade
I'm shocked Rodarius Williams lasted this long. I had him in the third round of my mock draft, thanks to a great 2020 season. This is a great value pick, and Williams could potentially fill a position of need.
