Josh Allen to Enter 2018 NFL Draft, More Rumors of Darnold Returning to USC

Late in the 2016 season, Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen became a highly discussed quarterback prospect and a player who was seen as having first-round potential. Allen decided to return to Wyoming for the 2017 season rather than enter the 2017 NFL Draft. Allen was coming off his first full season as the starter at Wyoming in his second year there, but was eligible for the draft after starting out his collegiate career at the community college level. The junior Allen has the eligibility to return to Wyoming for 2018, but multiple sources tell WalterFootball.com that Allen will skip his senior year and enter the 2018 NFL Draft.

In reaching out to NFL team sources, they all projected Allen to be a first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Allen has not had a prolific 2017 season of eye-popping production, but team sources say he already has the built-in excuse of a poor supporting cast. Entering his bowl game, Allen has completed 56 percent of his passes for 1,658 yards with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions. He has five rushing touchdowns as well. According to Rotoworld and WyoSports.net, Allen intends to play in Wyoming's bowl game despite missing the final two regular-season games with a shoulder injury.

One NFC general manager who could be in the market for a quarterback said they have a firm first-round grade on Allen. Team sources who are currently at the National Football Scouting meetings in Indianapolis say that Allen may not get out of the top 10 with the way he is being discussed at those meetings. The 6-foot-5, 233-pound Allen has an excellent skill set and has drawn a lot of comparisons to Ben Roethlisberger. Sources say Allen also has a good football IQ. An AFC director of college scouting stated there are too many quarterback-starved teams around the league for Allen to fall far.

Helping Allen to go high and potentially in the top 10 would be USC quarterback Sam Darnold returning to college for 2018. For months, WalterFootball.com has heard rumors that Darnold is inclined to return to USC next year, and many other media outlets have heard the same thing according to their reports. At the National Football Scouting meetings in Indianapolis, there is more talk that Darnold will pass on entering the 2018 NFL Draft to return to the Trojans. If Darnold does in fact return to USC, some sources think Allen could end up being the second-rated quarterback in the 2018 NFL Draft.
