Rattler, Corral Only QBs Creating Buzz

Over the past few months, there has been widely regarded belief in the NFL scouting community that the class for the 2022 NFL Draft will not be a strong year for quarterbacks and won't be close to as good as 2021. Area scouts, directors of college scouting, and some general managers have been on the road this month, going to watch top prospects in practice, and thus far the thinking about the nature of 2022 quarterback class has been reinforced. Multiple team sources told WalterFootball.com they say only two quarterbacks are seen as being potential high first-round picks by team right now: Oklahoma's Spencer Rattler and Ole Miss' Matt Corral.

Team sources say Rattler is the preseason favorite to be the top quarterback for the 2022 NFL Draft, but they note that Corral has really impressed scouts. Corral could rise to be a high first-rounder and/or jump Rattler depending on how they each play this fall.

Three other quarterbacks who received some tepid praise. One area scout said Alabama A&M quarterback Aqeel Glass has intrigued some evaluators and is a sleeper to watch. Another scout said Arizona State quarterback Jayden Daniels and Liberty's Malik Willis were candidates to be risers.

NFL teams are always desperate for potential franchise quarterbacks, so they are hoping that some players who are being overlooked right now emerge over the 2021 season and across the draft process. In August of 2019, there was no buzz about Joe Burrow being the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and similarly in August of 2018, there were not projections that Kyler Murray would be the first player taken in the 2019 NFL Draft. So teams aren't remiss in hoping a few players break out this season to present more opportunities for finding a signal-caller. Right now though, the scouting community believes the 2022 NFL Draft class may only have two good quarterback prospects in Rattler and Corral.
