Some Team Sources Rate D'Andre Swift Above Sony Michel, Nick Chubb, Josh Jacobs

The hard work of the 2020 NFL Draft is underway around throughout NFL, with teams' area scouts back on the road at college campuses watching practice and scouting the players who will make up the next draft class.One player who has created a good early buzz is Georgia running back D'Andre Swift. Around the scouting community, many believe that the 2020 NFL Draft could be a strong year for running back talent, and Swift is one of the favorites to be the top running back prospect for the draft.

It has been obvious from his debut at Georgia that Swift was a special back. Nick Chubb came into 2017 with a lot of hype going back to his tremendous freshman season filling in for Todd Gurley, and future first-round pick Sony Michel was also in the backfield with Chubb. Still, a freshman Swift took carries away from Chubb and Michel, helping that trio dominate the competition in 2017 to help lead the Bulldogs to the National Championship. That season, Swift averaged 7.6 yards per carry for 618 yards and three touchdowns. Swift took over as a starter as a sophomore and totaled 1,049 yards, on an average of 6.4 yards per carry, and 10 touchdowns over only 163 carries. He also split touches with Elijah Holyfield last season, but was the Bulldogs' No. 1 running back. Additionally, Swift contributed well as a receiver in 2018 with 32 receptions for 297 yards and three touchdowns.

Area scouts say that from their review of 2018 tape, Swift has everything a team wants in a running back prospect, with speed, size, natural running talent, and receiving ability. They feel he has really good traits and think he is too talented to slip out of the first round, entering his junior year.

Those area scouts say that off their initial impression of Swift, they like him more than Sony Michel and Nick Chubb. They think Swift is faster than Chubb and a more natural runner than Michel. They think Swift is likely to end up grading out higher than Josh Jacobs, who was the top running back prospect in the 2019 NFL Draft and went to the Raiders with the 24th-overall pick. Those sources say they do not see Swift being as good of a prospect as Saquon Barkley, but they think that Swift could end up grading out as a top-20 talent. Thus, Swift could be a prospect who is comparable to a player like Melvin Gordon coming out of Wisconsin. Of course a lot can and will change in the months to come, but entering the 2019 season, Swift has generated a first-round buzz with area scouts.
