Texas OT Cosmi Has First-Round Potential

A few years ago, there was a lot of hype around Texas left tackle Connor Williams, but it was misguided by the media, with many NFL teams having him graded as a mid-rounder and some having him well into the third dat of the draft. Around the league, it was viewed as a big reach when the Cowboys took Williams in the second round. While Texas offensive tackle Sam Cosmi has not had the same amount of hype, NFL evaluators like him a lot more than Williams and think he is a much better prospect. They feel that Cosmi has early-round potential for his draft class due to being is a gifted athlete with a lot of upside.

As a redshirt freshman in 2018, Cosmi earned a starting spot at right tackle for the Longhorns and had an impressive debut. Even though he is a redshirt sophomore, Cosmi was placed on NFL teams' preseason watch list and very few draft-eligible sophomores are included on the initial scouting list. Scouts feel that Cosmi is raw and needs development, but athletically, he is an interesting prospect. Cosmi has yet to play a lot and needs to get stronger for the NFL.

The 6-foot-6, 295-pounder has good size and athleticism for the next level. More development in a strength and conditioning program would help him, but that is something that develops for many players as they age. Team sources feel that Cosmi should go back to school if he wants to be a secure first-round pick in his draft class, which could be 2021. However, they feel he has early-round potential even if he comes out after this season because he is a good athlete with a lot of upside.
