Trask compared to Brad Johnson, Mond Similar to Colin Kaepernick

NFL teams are always on the look out for potential quarterbacks of the future, and when assessing college talent, they often like to make comparisons to current or previous NFL players to provide a model for the type of player who the prospect could be. The comparisons don't dictate that they will have the same level of success or failure in their careers, but say the prospect has a similar skill set and style of play to that pro. In speaking with multiple team sources, they provided some interesting comparisons for Florida quarterback Kyle Trask and Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond.
With Mond, some team sources said they thought that he was a poor man's Colin Kaepernick. They felt that Mond has a good athletic skill set with arm talent and athleticism, but some limitations in accuracy and passing ability hold him back. Another team source said that Mond was a better version of Josh Dobbs coming out of Tennessee. Kaepernick was a second-round pick, while Dobbs was a mid-rounder, so that could put Mond in the mid-round range entering the season.
Multiple team sources, independently from each other, said that Trask reminded them of Brad Johnson. Johnson had a good pro career and carried the Tampa Bay offense in 2002 when Johnson and the Tampa Bay defense won the Super Bowl. Those sources said that Trask's skill set, style of play, and excellent intangibles are reminiscent of Johnson. But some sources saw some limitations in being a statue in the pocket and not having ad-lib playmaking ability to him.
Of course, Mond and Trask could prove evaluators wrong. In August of 2019, no team was talking about Joe Burrow being an early-round pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, much less going No. 1 overall. At this time two years ago, Kyler Murray was expected to be playing professionally for the Oakland A's rather than going to the NFL, so neither Mond nor Trask should be written off as being incapable of rising during the 2020 season. But heading into their senior years, Trask and Mond are being mostly viewed as comparable to solid backup quarterbacks.
