Strengths: Good size with the frame to put on more upper body strength ... Light on his toes and displays an extremely high level of athleticism in pass protection ... High level of flexibility and balance ... Very strong on tape despite bad bench press at Combine (18) ... Tough, physical run-blocker ... Flat out dominant at times ... Quick kick step; gets set quickly ... Very competitive leader ... Durable ... Good character ... Elite upside.
Weaknesses: Occasionally gets too high ... Needs to improve hand technique a little bit ... Could improve upper body strength ... Some question his work ethic ... Is somewhat inconsistent, but this is blown out of proportion ... Lacks some instincts.
Summary: Oher is an extremely talented prospect, and the negativity around him now I feel like is too much. Once the consensus draftnik opinion is formed, do not dare going against it. I will a little bit for Oher. He has so much ability as a left tackle and he is not as inconsistent as people make him out to be. I think he will be a solid pro, but maybe not a superstar which is OK if he is drafted in the middle of the first round.
Player Comparison: Willie Roaf I am by no means saying Michael Oher is a Hall of Famer or that he will be an All-Pro. Like every comparison, this is based on skill set alone. Oher possesses all of the prototypical physical tools like Roaf, but how good will he be as a pro?
