I hope Mitchell falls to the Cowboys in the first. The issue is we did lose Smith and Biadasz and will need OL help. Whatever, I can dream and whatnot.

@Longinus - The Cowboys got Pollard in 2019 in the 4th round. Of course he's not a bust of a draft pick. He was a bust as a starter however as he ran far better and for more yards as a backup behind Elliott which your stats bear out. That's why he's not getting big money and the Cowboys need to look in the draft for someone who will be a much better starter....unless he turns it around this year.

@ppg223 because they are the Redskins. Great logo, great team name, great memories. The Commanders is just as bland as Football Team.

We know Kalen King regressed mightily in 2023 and is apparently already struggling in senior bowl practice. Does anyone know why? Is he a man corner asked to play zone this season or vice-versa? Problems at home? Bitter about all the Taylor Swift sightings at NFL games? Grumpy because he didn't want to pay for Peacock streaming to watch the Chief's opening round win?

Mr Bitter,

Walt and Charlie have consistently had Williams at #1 even though I think Daniels/Penix/Nix have had the best season at the position this year. I realize last year needs to be taken into account as well so I'm curious where you stand on the top 5 available QBs.

@Mr. Bitter I am really looking at Patrick's traits.. same traits he had in college. And Patrick had tons of hero ball .. but what i am trying to draw the line in the sand here is "EYE LEVEL" .. Patrick eyes stay down field vs bodies around him.. I just don't see Caleb as a guy who is gonna slide and move in the pocket eyes down field and make stick throws.... and that is the MEAT of how you over come 3rd down.. 2 min drill...end of half.. known passing situations.

@Mr. Bitter I say the Mahomes comp is lazy because if you are looking at highlights then sure they are similar. But Caleb Williams is not displaying similar skill sets. Highlights yeah... ability? NO... he isn't riding and sliding in the pocket with eyes down field FEELING THE RUSH not LOOKING AT the rush.. while making anticipation throws down field.. .he isn't doing that. He 100% no way around it isn't doing that. He is polar opposite.. eyes come down and goes into "hero ball"... this is a line in the sand on their play style that DEFINES what the great QB's do and what QB's who bust do and or don't pan out.

Micheal Penix Jr has 1 or 2 misses that make you go "hmm bruh"... but overall he has unique ball placement. He just has a dash of "miss" in him. .... and to be honest that is 85% of quarterbacks. There is a small small group of QB's in the history of football that don't do that. I noted it, but it just isn't alarming. I can live with that. Because i think the end result is high level production and a pathway to big play field position changing throws.

@shankdiddy3

Pretty much agree on Maye and McCarthy.

The Williams/Mahomes comp isn't lazy; it's apt. The skill sets are similar. Mahomes is the only current NFL comp that does Williams' unique upside justice.

The Mahomes you've described in comparison to Williams is Final Form Mahomes; a refined 7-year vet who was lucky enough to land in the perfect environment to realize his potential. Far cry from his predraft scouting reports coming out of Texas Tech, where he was generally regarded as a boom-or-bust wild stallion and a fringe 1st-round prospect.

I like Penix. Great arm talent, good athleticism. Erratic accuracy.

@Mr. Bitter I am not seeing Caleb Williams the same way. Many of the things i have talked about are now coming into the conversation. Caleb Williams isn't a high level facilitator with in the scheme. He isn't a guy who excels in 3rd and long known passing situations, 2min drill, end of half. ...in these situations he has been explosed.

So many lazy comparisons like comparing Caleb Williams to Patrick Mahomes and i can't see it. I think those that say that are watching highlights of these players and not down to down all 22 of these players. The down by down version of these players are not even remotely a like. The ability for Mahomes to make throws in known passing situations into tight windows and throw people open even when everyone in the world knows he has throw pass the sticks or into the end zone... these players are not a good comp at all.

Jayden Daniels in my opinion is the clear best QB in this class. Not just the best QB in this class but it isn't even CLOSE. Throw away the media hype and turn on the tape as if you have never heard of any of these players before and watch every snap... pay attention to the game situations.. the moments.. the ability to play inside stucture and out... the ability to project the passing game down field.. the lack of mistakes .. the theme of good decision making... the unique down field ball placement giving pass catchers a chance at the football.. it isn't even close

Drake Maye is the opposite, hasn't captured the moment. Is 4 wins against 8 losses in the last 6 games of the last two years in the most critical time of the year. Where is the clutch in the "got to have it moments"?.. we aren't playing FSU or Bama.. they are losing too G Tech and NC state and Virginia for God sake... where is the clutch gene?... this MATTERS!!! .. not sold on him. If he is playing his worse (not capturing the moment) when it matters i am paying CLOSE attention to it

Micheal Penix Jr is my 2nd QB behind Jayden Daniels. He has played at a high level for years. We  kinda act like he just arrived. But has lead NCAAF in passing two years in a row... even before this year he is the ONLY QB in the 140 year history of college football to lead two seperate schools from not ranked in the top 50 to wins vs teams in the top 10. BTW that has happened 5 times in 65 years... and Penix Jr  was the REASON behind 2 of those wins... that is a big GREEN flag on leadership... IN THE BIGGEST Moments he has made NFL clutch throws with the entire weight of a program riding on it... last year at Oregan 3rd and 7 3min left and he makes a dime NFL throw vs cover 2 for a TD to win it... key throws in GOT to have it moments.. NFL throws in got to have it moments for 2 years going 24 and 2 at UW..... People use lazy talking points like him having good pass catchers.. .but don't hold that against Joe Burrow he literally had the NFL ALL PRO FIRST TEAM in Justin Jefferson and Jamar Case.. with Terence Marshell and Clyde Edwards-Eliar and Leanord Fornette.... Micheal Penix jr is literally one of THE most underrated QB prospects this decade... only question mark i have is waiting to see his medical.. if that checks out he is my 2nd QB...NOBODY is doing MORE NFL "things" in key clutch situations in program defining moments than Penix Jr.

JJ McCarthy is way overrated. And i am a Michigan fan who has watched EVERY snap of UM since 1986. He has good tools and i like his ability. But he was hidden and protected in key moments. And that just isn't first round worthy. Not when a team that drafts him expects him to make unique plays in "GOT TO HAVE IT" moments and he isn't even doing that now.... and when put in that situation last (vs TCU) he failed and they been protecting him vs "meh" competition since.... good tools and ability... hasn't displayed any themes of clutch gene "carry a team  on his back in key moments" type ability

@Wharthog

It's all about transferable skills, not college stats.

Williams has a Mahomes-type tool box, but even elite QBs need a functional supporting cast to thrive. (As we're seeing in KC currently.) USC has become a mess around Williams. You give Williams the coaching and weapons available to Daniels/Penix/Nix and he wins the Heisman again without breaking a sweat.

Of Daniels/Penix/Nix, only Daniels has Pro Bowl upside for the next level, IMO. Not saying Penix and Nix are trash system QBs or something - but they have their flaws and are likely Day 2 projects instead of 1st rounders.

Williams is the no-brainer #1 pick and the talk of Maye overtaking him is nuts to me. Here's what I've got:

1) Williams

2) Daniels

3) Maye

4) Ewers (perhaps even higher if he balls out during CFB)

5) Rattler

Williams goes #1 and Daniels top 5. Maye/Ewers/Rattler top 15. No J.J. McCarthy. The McCarthy top 10 talk is crazy and he should return to UM. From there, it's Penix/Nix on Day 2 then a dropoff to late round/UFA types.

Unless he dramatically turns his season around Kalen King is playing himself out of the 2nd round. I realize last year has to be taken into account but he does not look good right now.

If the Vikings were to get Penix that low in the 2nd round they'd be very lucky if he can continue playing so well at the next level

@sluggermike add to your comment that Corum is scoring so much on the ground that he is taking many tds away from the passing game.

Charlie,

Love that Quinyon Mitchell & Abrams-Draine are on this list. Keep Beanie Bishop from WVA in mind too. He's also having a great season.

@Walter They're still the Reskins. Why would anyone stop calling them the Redskins? It's one of the great team names that's ever existed: Redskins. It's not a dumb name like Commanders or Football Team. Redskins is a great name a fan can take pride in like Utah does with their Utes or Central Michigan does with their Chippewas. Redskins, brilliant name. Let's not change it and be stupid like moving from San Diego or something. Redskins!
