Strengths: Explosive athlete with a sudden first step Outstanding motor; nice second effort Does a good job of staying low and gaining leverage Quick, strong hands Balanced and shows great flexibility Runs the arc Textbook pass-rush technique Deadly spin move Nice speed rush Anticipates snap count well Has a repertoire of moves Reads development of play and reacts Comfortable in space Good range Closes quickly from backside Nice change of direction
Weaknesses: Average size and bulk Needs to get stronger Gets washed against the run Inconsistent when setting the edge Sometimes weak at point of attack Not very powerful Legitimate durability concerns Might have character concerns (suspended for two games in 2007 for violation of team rules)
Summary: Hardy is projects as a right defensive end in a 4-3 scheme with the potential to play outside linebacker in the 3-4, but I think he is most comfortable with his hand in the ground. Hardy projects as one of the best pass rushers in the country for the 2010 NFL Draft, but he needs to stay healthy next season.
Player Comparison: Adewale Ogunleye. Ogunleye is a great pass rusher off the edge, but is inconsistent against the run.
