Strengths: Prototypical size with room to bulk Ridiculously quick first step Has great speed and athleticism Terrific flexibility and balance Underrated power Plays at a very high level when motivated Nice agility and lateral movement Equips a variety of pass rush moves Strong hands Anticipates snap count well Great counter moves Seems comfortable in coverage Can stand up and rush Adept at batting down passes Vines for arms Very, very high upside Scheme versatile (4-3 DE or 3-4 OLB)
Weaknesses: Seems disinterested against the run A little too finesse - needs to be more aggressive Doesn't willingly engage double teams Hands are a work in progress Slow to disengage Could play with a lower pad level Very raw and inexperienced Could get a little stronger Occasionally disappears in games
Summary: I love JPP's skill set and I think when it is all said and done, I will give him a first-round grade. However, I am going to be conservative with his evaluation right now. I have questions as to why he bounced around to another community college, as he must have struggled academically. Sometimes he doesn't seem to love the game, but for the most part I like him as a prospect and he is worth taking a chance on. I'll be very surprised if his name isn't called in the top 25 picks.
Player Comparison: Gaines Adams. Forget that Adams was a bust in Tampa. This comparison has everything to do will the SKILL SET and JPP is exactly like Adams. Different intangibles could lead to a different career for JPP.
