Strengths: Very good size and bulk for position Highly productive Extremely good ball skills Quick, smooth feet Nice speed; ability to recover Comes clean out of backpedal Good body control Times jump balls well Sets the edge in run support Plays with good range Talented enough to play on press man island Very solid athlete Nice upside Good versatility as return specialist Might be able to play safety
Weaknesses: Very raw prospect; poorly coached High in backpedal Hips a little stiff Not much man coverage experience Opens hips up too quickly Might lack some instincts Tends to lose focus Tackles with poor technique Needs to improve hand use in shedding blocks Character concerns
Summary: Cox is a very talented prospect, but he needs some coaching in the NFL and you can't always bank on improvement with prospects - it's a gamble. Cox profiles as more of a zone corner where his technique deficiencies will be masked. He was suspended for 2010 Cotton Bowl for violation of team rules. I am projecting Cox to go off the board in the top 70-80 picks. Cox is an intriguing talent whom some team might take a gamble on early in the second round.
Player Comparison: Kelvin Hayden. Hayden is one of the better zone corners in the NFL, but he might have better instincts than Cox. Same height-weight-speed projection.
