Strengths:
Quick release and fluid throwing motion
Top shelf arm strength and velocity
Ideal NFL frame
Relatively mobile for his size
Able to properly lead receivers
Very accurate with short range throws
Weaknesses: Product of spread offense
Must learn to go through progressions
Limited experience under center
Needs to work on pocket presence
Only two years as starter
Summary: Blaine Gabbert decided to strike while the iron was hot, declaring for the 2011 NFL Draft on the heels of Andrew Luck returning to Stanford. His choice could pay off because instead of potentially competing with Luck and USC's Matt Barkley next year, he joins a weak, generally inexperienced (like himself) draft class this year. If that leads to him being selected in the top 10, he will have made the right decision. His junior season was less successful than his sophomore campaign, and ended with an ugly pick six that cost Missouri the Insight Bowl against Iowa.
Player Comparison: Kerry Collins. Both players possess the size you would draw up for an NFL quarterback and the arm strength to get the ball down the field. Collins does not take too many sacks, and the same could be true for Gabbert if he pairs his mobility with a little pocket awareness.
