Strengths:
Confident, fiery competitor
Instinctive
Athletic with good closing speed
Mirrors receivers
Reacts well and supports the run
Experienced against top competition
Very coachable
Weaknesses: Height is not ideal
Not very productive
Much more likely to break up pass than intercept
Zone coverage skills need improvement
Poor tackling technique
Summary: Brandon Harris had a rough final college game, getting beaten repeatedly by Notre Dame's Michael Floyd. However, his confidence has not waned. He is a true cover corner with the ability to excel in man coverage. Even though he is a little short he plays physical and is willing to take on bigger receivers, but this is unlikely to fly at the NFL level if the Floyd showdown is any indication.
Harris was coached by his father in high school and has a passion for the game, which is something NFL teams look for. His effort in run support will be valued. If he can clean up some of his deficiencies with coaching and reach his full potential as an all-around talent, he will be well worth a spot in the first round.
Player Comparison: Kelly Jennings. I could not resist going with another player from The U. Jennings was another fluid cover corner coming out of college with similar size, speed and instincts. In 78 career games with Seattle he has just two interceptions. If Harris (4 interceptions in 39 games for the Hurricanes) is going to avoid a similar fate he needs to take more chances or simply catch the passes he is too willing to knock away.
