Strengths:
Strong, natural athlete
Powerful run blocker
Reaches second level
Competitive with a mean streak
Capable blocker in space
Plenty of upside; coachable
Hard worker
Weaknesses: Lackes elite quickness
Short arms
Not much football experience
Still learning how to use hands
Years older (27 in November) than most prospects
Frame is likely just about maxed out
Summary: Danny Watkins took the typical route to the NFL Draft, growing up in Canada playing rugby and ice hockey. Oh, that's not typical is it? His age is going to work against him, but there are certainly positives. Age brings maturity and life experience. He was interested in firefighting while at Butte junior college and a couple years later found himself taking over for first-round pick Jason Smith at left tackle. This is one of the other problems with him as a prospect because although he performed well at guard in the Senior Bowl, he needs to learn the position in the NFL because that's where he fits. Teams have to weigh all of the pluses and minuses to see if he works for them, and that includes how high of a draft pick to spend.
