Strengths:
Athletic receiving threat
Good speed
Catches with hands
Red zone target
Effective after the catch
Durable 3-year starter
Hard worker
Weaknesses: Lacks strength
Height is not ideal
Very limited as blocker
Not an accomplished route runner
Played in unconventional Pistol offense
Did not compete against top competition
Summary: Virgil Green has the athleticism to impress an NFL team enough to get him drafted earlier than his production and overall skill set suggest he should be taken. Teams looking for a secondary receiving threat to challenge defenses down the field are going to be intrigued by Green. Other teams needing more blocking ability will shy away. He can certainly add strength and work on that aspect of his game, but he is a project in that area.
Player Comparison: Ben Troupe. This is a natural for me. Both guys are athletic vertical threats with limited blocking ability. Troupe was just a little bigger coming out of Florida, and wound up being a bust after being taken No. 40 overall in 2004. Teams are going to reach for Green as well, but in a later round which should give him a better chance to develop instead of being thrust into a role as a starter.
