Round 1
Pick #28 LB Rashaan Evans Alabama
If Evans
is available at 28 the Steelers need to jump on him. Evans comes from the
linebacker factory of Alabama. He has great speed and insight. Needs some
tackling help, but that will come I believe. Another option if he is available
is Leighton Vander Esch of Boise State. Either way, I believe that the Steelers
need to take a linebacker in round 1. With the loss of Ryan Shazier the
Steelers also lost a lot of defensive leadership. A first round linebacker
might bring the spark the defense needs.
Round 2
Pick #60 S Marcus Allen Penn State
This pick
may be a bit biased as I am a huge Penn State fan. Allen has led the Nittany
Lion defense the last 3+ years. His hard hitting ability reminds me of Mike Mitchell
in his prime. Some hits Allen laid down I swear shook Beaver Stadium. Allen's
open field tackling ability makes him a top target. And his hard hitting
ability often discourages Quarterbacks from throwing to his side. A cornerback
would also be an option with this pick.
Round 3
Pick #92 CB Isaac Yiadom Boston College
In my
opinion Artie Burns is underachieving. The Steelers need another corner who can
cover some of the top targets in the AFC. Cameron Sutton did not get much
playing time last year due to an injury, so it will be interesting to see how
he performs. However, I do not believe Pittsburgh should keep Coty Sensabaugh
around.
Round 5
Pick #148 WR Quadree Henderson Pittsburgh
The
Steelers always have a knack for finding the diamond in the rough when it comes
to the wide receiver position. Henderson is right in their back yard and has
the playmaking ability that could take Martavis Bryant's spot. He could also return punts and Kickoffs because of his speed.
Round 5 Pick #165 RB Mark Walton Miami (FL)
With the future of Bell up in the air. The Steelers need a speed guy in the backfield. They have their power guy in James Conner, but need speed. Ridley may work this year, but not in the future.
Round 7 Pick #220 DT Bilal Nicols Delaware
The Steelers have a knack of picking up good players from little known schools. This DT is powerful and pretty quick. He would be worth drafting.
Round 7 pick #246 OG Andrew Kirkland Washington
It never hurts to have good reserves especially when it comes to the offensive line. With the loss of Hubbard to the Browns, the Steelers could use another good backup.
