Potential Candidates

Eric Bieniemy Kansas City Chiefs Offensive Coordinator- The Browns are likely to hire an offensive minded head coach to help with the development of Baker Mayfield and Bieniemy makes a lot of sense to me. The Chiefs offensive coordinators have been head coaching targets the past couple of years with Doug Pederson getting the Eagles job and Matt Nagy getting the Bears job. Bieniemy will likely get interviews this offseason and I would think the Browns would definitely be one of them. GM John Dorsey’s history with the Chiefs also make this a logical move. The timing of Hue Jackson’s firing is also intriguing as the Browns play the Chiefs this Sunday and the Chiefs coaches are now aware that a head coaching job in Cleveland could be theirs.

Dave Toub Kansas City Chiefs Special Teams Coordinator- Another Chiefs coach possibility. As mentioned Dorsey’s history with the Chiefs could mean he’ll bring in someone he’s familiar with. The Browns special teams have been very poor and Toub would help fix that. However, this hire seems unlikely to me as the Browns will most likely go with an offensive minded head coach.

Lincoln Riley Oklahoma Head Coach - I don’t think this will happen but it's worth mentioning. Riley coached Baker Mayfield at Oklahoma and the Browns are all in on Baker so this decision will have his development as its most important factor. I don’t think Riley makes the jump to the NFL next season and he will stay at Oklahoma.

John Harbaugh Baltimore Ravens Head Coach- I think the Ravens might be ready to fire Harbaugh soon. The Ravens have been missing the playoffs too much recently for their standards and a new voice might be needed. I also think the Ravens might make the move to an offensive minded coach to help with Lamar Jackson’s development next season. Harbaugh has a Super Bowl victory as a head coach on his resume and would be a quality experienced head coaching option for the Browns, something they haven’t had in a very long time. Harbaugh’s Ravens also usually rank in the top tier in special teams which the Browns could really use help with. The problem I see with this hiring however is the unknown of who the offensive coordinator would be and if they have success they could leave for another job or the Browns would have to fire Harbaugh and promote the OC to head coach in order to keep them.

Mike McCarthy Packers Head Coach- The Packers might miss the playoffs again and McCarthy could potentially get fired as a result. His name is being mentioned and he has experience but its hard for me to say if he is a good coach cause he’s been fortunate to have Aaron Rodgers as his QB. I don’t think the Browns will hire him but he could be an offensive coordinator candidate.

Josh McDaniels Patriots Offensive Coordinator- Another name being mentioned but I think this is unlikely. The Browns coaching stability is horrible and McDaniels would need a secure job in order to not be fired twice as a head coach early in his career. I see a small possibly of this happening though as McDaniels was close to taking the Colts job and the Browns have a young QB to build around. McDaniels has more job stability in New England though so this is very unlikely.

Jeff Stoutland Eagles Offensive Line Coach- An under the radar guess. Stoutland has done a very good job with the Eagles in my opinion but the o line coach rarely gets mentioned therefore this probably won’t happen. The Eagles had Reich hired last season as a head coach and DeFilippo got an offensive coordinator job so it wouldn’t shock me if Stoutland gets noticed this offseason as a head coaching candidate.

Matt Campbell Iowa State Head Coach- Campbell has Ohio roots and could be a hot name at the end of the season. He has head coaching experience and experience in the Big 12 which should be a plus to the Browns who have a Big 12 QB as a building block. I see him more likely as staying in college and possibly getting a big program to offer him a head coaching job or he might get offensive coordinator or QB coach job offers from the NFL,

These are my best guesses at who will be the Browns head coach next year. There are many other names being mentioned but these are the best contenders in my opinion. If I had to guess right now I would say that Eric Bieniemy will be the head coach of the Browns next season.
