This is a 2003 NFL Draft Re-Mock, just in case you missed the big blue letters up top. I'm going back to 2003 and re-distributing all of the 2003 NFL Draft prospects to all of the teams in the 2003 NFL Draft order. This 2003 NFL Draft Re-Mock is based on how these players have performed in their careers, as well as the needs each team had back in 2003.

2003 NFL Draft Re-Mock: Picks 1-16

  1. New Orleans Saints: Jason Witten, TE, Tennessee
Actual 2003 NFL Draft Pick: Johnathan Sullivan, DT (trade up)
My 2003 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Troy Polamalu, SS

The Saints packaged these two picks to move up for Johnathan Sullivan. Whoops.

New Orleans' top three tight ends in 2003 were Ernie Conwell, Boo Williams and Walter Rasby. Jason Witten's just a slight upgrade.

  2. New Orleans Saints: Lance Briggs, OLB, Arizona
Actual 2003 NFL Draft Pick: Johnathan Sullivan, DT (trade up)
My 2003 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Boss Bailey, OLB

I mocked the Saints a strongside linebacker and they didn't take one, thus having to put up with Sedrick Hodge in 2003. No one ever listens to me!

  3. New England Patriots: Willis McGahee, RB, Miami
Actual 2003 NFL Draft Pick: Eugene Wilson, FS
My 2003 NFL Mock Draft Pick: William Joseph, DT

New England dealt this pick to the Ravens, who picked Kyle Boller. Bill Belichick is truly the master of the Draft Day trades.

The Patriots won the Super Bowl this upcoming season with Antowain Smith as their running back. Now, imagine if they only had a dominant ground game. Actually, you don't have to imagine because they signed Corey Dillon the subsequent offseason.

  4. Denver Broncos: Rashean Mathis, CB, Bethune-Cookman
Actual 2003 NFL Draft Pick: George Foster, OT
My 2003 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Chris Kelsay, DE

Denver's problems at corner were so bad in 2003 that they had to resort to starting a guy named Lenny Walls for all 16 games. And to perform a Berman-ism, Walls crumbled in the playoffs when Peyton Manning torched this secondary.

  5. Cleveland Browns: E.J. Henderson, ILB, Maryland
Actual 2003 NFL Draft Pick: Jeff Faine, C
My 2003 NFL Mock Draft Pick: E.J. Henderson, ILB

To quote something I wrote in my 2003 NFL Mock Draft, "Cleveland released all of their linebackers, so a great middle linebacker is a nice selection for Butch Davis." Hey, looks like I knew what I was talking about for a change (though Jeff Faine was a nice pick).

  6. Chicago Bears: Kris Dielman, G, Indiana
Actual 2003 NFL Draft Pick: Rex Grossman, QB
My 2003 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Kwame Harris, OT

Rex Grossman, Kwame Harris... either way, the Bears were screwed.

Chicago had major problems with its offensive line back in 2003. Sound familiar? Kris Dielman is one of the better guards in the NFL.

  7. Buffalo Bills: Dallas Clark, TE, Iowa
Actual 2003 NFL Draft Pick: Willis McGahee, RB
My 2003 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Jerome McDougle, DE

Willis McGahee played well for the Bills - until he bashed the entire city of Buffalo, berating the women, the nightlife and the restaurants. Jerk.

Drew Bledsoe's top targets in 2003 aside from Eric Moulds: Josh Reed, Bobby Shaw and Dan Campbell. No wonder Bledsoe waited 20 seconds to throw a pass on every single down. No one was open.

  8. Indianapolis Colts: Robert Mathis, DE, Alabama A&M
Actual 2003 NFL Draft Pick: Dallas Clark, TE
My 2003 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Mike M.S. Doss, S

Bill Polian is all about drafting offensive players - unless he can get a dominant pass-rusher. I guess he knew what he was doing because he secured Robert Mathis in Round 5.

  9. New York Giants: Jon Stinchcomb, OT, Illinois
Actual 2003 NFL Draft Pick: William Joseph, DT
My 2003 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Michael Haynes, DE

New York's starting right tackle in 2003 was some obscure person named Ian Allen, who would be out of the league two years later. Jon Stinchcomb would have been a huge upgrade at the position.

  10. San Francisco 49ers: Eric Steinbach, G, Iowa
Actual 2003 NFL Draft Pick: Kwame Harris, OT
My 2003 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Kelley Washington, WR

The poor 49ers had to start 32-year-old Ron Stone at right guard, and as far as I can recall, he was pretty dreadful. Eric Steinbach used to be really good until he gained like 400 pounds last offseason.

  11. Pittsburgh Steelers: Eugene Wilson, FS, Illinois
Actual 2003 NFL Draft Pick: Troy Polamalu, SS
My 2003 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Larry Johnson, RB

The Steelers had major problems in their secondary, which is why they drafted Troy Polamalu. I'd say that pick worked out somewhat well.

  12. Tennessee Titans: Gary Brackett, ILB, Rutgers
Actual 2003 NFL Draft Pick: Andre Woolfolk, CB
My 2003 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Taylor Jacobs, WR

The Titans get a guy who has terrorized their offense for years. Gary Brackett would have been a great fit for Tennessee's defense and an upgrade over Rocky Calmus.

  13. Green Bay Packers: Nick Barnett, OLB, Oregon State
Actual 2003 NFL Draft Pick: Nick Barnett, OLB
My 2003 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Rex Grossman, QB

Phew... I guess it's a good thing the Packers ignored me and waited two more years to obtain Brett Favre's successor, eh? They drafted Nick Barnett and he's the No. 2 player still available, so I'll let them have their guy.

  14. Philadelphia Eagles: Gerald Hayes, ILB, Pittsburgh
Actual 2003 NFL Draft Pick: Jerome McDougle, DE
My 2003 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Jason Witten, TE

In my 2003 NFL Mock Draft, I had the Eagles taking Jason Witten, Bradie James and Tully Banta-Cain in the first three rounds. Instead, they drafted Jerome McDougle, L.J. Smith and Billy McMullen. Should I pat myself on the back now, or do that later?

I know Andy Reid doesn't like drafting linebackers in the first round, but the guy starting in the middle of his defense in 2003 was Mark freaking Simoneau.

  15. Oakland Raiders: Terrence McGee, CB, Northwestern State
Actual 2003 NFL Draft Pick: Nnamdi Asomugha, CB
My 2003 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Ty Warren, DT

"Terrence... McGee... is a... great... player..." Sorry, I couldn't resist.

  16. Oakland Raiders: Jarret Johnson, DE, Alabama
Actual 2003 NFL Draft Pick: Tyler Brayton, DE
My 2003 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Dewayne White, DE

I guess the Raiders were really set on getting a defensive end with the pick they acquired from Tampa Bay. Like Tyler Brayton, Jarret Johnson is a terrific run defender.
