2005 NFL Draft Re-Mock

This is a 2005 NFL Draft Re-Mock, just in case you missed the big blue letters up top. I'm going back to 2005 and re-distributing all of the 2005 NFL Draft prospects to all of the teams in the 2005 NFL Draft order. This 2005 NFL Draft Re-Mock is based on how these players have performed in their careers, as well as the needs each team had back in 2005.

1. San Francisco 49ers: Aaron Rodgers, QB, California

   Hmm... the spread quarterback who never played under center, or the pro-style, NFL-ready quarterback... Why does this decision seem so easy right now?
   
   
2. Miami Dolphins: Michael Roos, OT, Eastern Washington

   Interesting that three teams in the top five passed on elite pass-rushers in favor of running backs. Those teams would go on to have a combined 71-73 record over the next three years. Think the NFL has become a passing league?
   
   We can excuse the Dolphins because they had Jason Taylor and Kevin Carter as their defensive ends. They did, however, need a left tackle, and Michael Roos is one of the best in the business.
   
   
3. Cleveland Browns: DeMarcus Ware, DE/OLB, Troy

   The Browns passed on Ben Roethlisberger in 2004 and Aaron Rodgers in 2005. How many mistakes can this team make at the quarterback position before it finally learns its lesson?
   
   Well, at least Cleveland can get to the quarterback with DeMarcus Ware. The team's two rush linebackers combined for a whopping five sacks in 2005.
   
   
4. Chicago Bears: Shawne Merriman, DE, Maryland

   Can you imagine if the Bears had Shawne Merriman, Adewale Ogunleye in his prime (10 sacks in 2005) and a healthy Tommie Harris on the same defensive line? If David Carr is reading this, he just crapped himself.
   
   
   
   
   
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Justin Tuck, DE, Notre Dame

   Just for the record, I mocked Aaron Rodgers to the Bucs. They didn't listen, picking Cadillac Williams instead. That's right - they took a running back over an NFL-ready, pro-style quarterback. Didn't a team just do that in the 2010 NFL Draft? I can't remember...
   
   At any rate, with Rodgers off the board, the Buccaneers can land one of the many talented pass-rushers in this class. Justin Tuck would have been the perfect bookend for Simeon Rice.
   
   
6. Tennessee Titans: Jammal Brown, OT, Oklahoma

   Brad Hopkins was a great left tackle for the Titans, but he was 35 in 2005. Tennessee would later draft Michael Roos, who would start at right tackle his rookie year and then move over to the blind side when Hopkins retired. Jammal Brown can do the same thing.
   
   
7. Minnesota Vikings: Trent Cole, DE, Cincinnati

   The Vikings would go on to obtain defensive end Erasmus James, who ended up starting nine games in 2005. Let's just give them Trent Cole, the fourth awesome defensive end to go off the board in seven picks.
   
   
8. Arizona Cardinals: Jay Ratliff, DT, Auburn

   Yet another dynamic pass-rusher, Jay Ratliff would have given the Cardinals a tandem of he and Darnell Dockett in the interior of their defensive line to go along with Bert Berry and Chike Okeafor at end (13.5 combined sacks). David Carr just soiled his pants again.
   
   
   
   
   
9. Washington Redskins: Vincent Jackson, WR, Northern Colorado

   Wow, I really nailed this draft. Too bad all of the good players in this class didn't go in the top 10. Seriously, every player I've re-drafted thus far went No. 11 or later. Stupid teams apparently make stupid picks.
   
   Washington's top three receivers in 2005: Santana Moss, David Patten and James T(h)rash. Close call between Vincent Jackson and Roddy White, but at 6-5, 230, Jackson wins because of his frame.
   
   
10. Detroit Lions: Roddy White, WR, UAB
    Actual 2005 NFL Draft Pick: Mike Williams, WR

    One of the dumbest things I've ever said was that Mike Williams was the most talented player in this class. Well, maybe it wasn't THAT dumb. He was really talented. He was just a fat, lazy pig who didn't care about playing football and eventually ate himself out of the league.
    
    For the second time in three NFL Draft Re-Mocks, I'm giving the Lions are a better receiver.
    
    
11. Dallas Cowboys: Barrett Ruud, ILB, Nebraska

    Bill Parcells loves drafting linebackers in the first round. He can't get DeMarcus Ware or Shawne Merriman, but Barrett Ruud is definitely not a bad consolation prize.
    
    
12. San Diego Chargers: Braylon Edwards, WR, Michigan

    The Chargers would end up walking away from the 2005 NFL Draft with Shawne Merriman, Vincent Jackson, Luis Castillo and Darren Sproles. Meh, I'm not impressed.
    
    With no more Jackson, Braylon Edwards becomes the next No. 1 receiver on San Diego's roster.

    I apparently thought the Texans needed a running back, and what do you know? A running back is the best player on the board. How convenient.

    I'd say the Thomas Davis pick worked out pretty well for the Panthers. Let's keep it that way.

    Poor David Pollack. He would have been a good player if he didn't suffer a career-ending injury. And speaking of Pollack, Matt Millen is a douche. Apologize again, Millen!
    
    Kansas City's top two defensive tackles were people named Lional Dalton and John Browning. Fail. The Chiefs steal one of San Diego's best defenders.
    
    
16. New Orleans Saints: Nick Collins, FS, Bethune-Cookman

    The Saints had the epically bad Josh Bullocks starting for them at free safety. Adding Nick Collins would negate my "Josh Bullocks causes Saints fans to have nose bleeds" jokes in a few years, but I guess that's just a price I'd have to pay for everything to work out logically for a change.
