This is a 2005 NFL Draft Re-Mock, just in case you missed the big blue letters up top. I'm going back to 2005 and re-distributing all of the 2005 NFL Draft prospects to all of the teams in the 2005 NFL Draft order. This 2005 NFL Draft Re-Mock is based on how these players have performed in their careers, as well as the needs each team had back in 2005.

2005 NFL Draft Re-Mock: Picks 1-16

  1. Cincinnati Bengals: Lofa Tatupu, ILB, USC
Actual 2005 NFL Draft Pick: David Pollack, DE
My 2005 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Troy Williamson, WR

When the Seahawks chose Lofa Tatupu in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft, I wrote that it was a "reach." What I meant was, "I couldn't do a draft grade for this pick because I was reaching for a bag of Cheetos and I pulled a muscle." Yeah, that's what I meant.

  2. Minnesota Vikings: Logan Mankins, G, Fresno State
Actual 2005 NFL Draft Pick: Erasmus James, DE
My 2005 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Marcus Spears, DE

The Vikings had major problems at guard in 2005; they had two rookies named Anthony Herrera and Marcus Johnson starting for them at the positions.

  3. St. Louis Rams: Jason Brown, C, North Carolina
Actual 2005 NFL Draft Pick: Alex Barron, OT
My 2005 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Alex Barron, OT

Let's save the Rams the embarrassment of Alex Barron and give them a better offensive lineman. The interior of St. Louis' front in 2005 was comprised of players who were 34, 34 and 35 years old. The Rams currently have Jason Brown on their roster.

  4. Dallas Cowboys: O.J. Atogwe, FS, Stanford
Actual 2005 NFL Draft Pick: Marcus Spears, DE
My 2005 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Mark Clayton, WR

Bill Parcells is all about linebackers and defensive backs. O.J. Atogwe is a big upgrade over Keith Davis.

  5. Jacksonville Jaguars: Corey Webster, CB, LSU
Actual 2005 NFL Draft Pick: Matt "Coke Zero" Jones, WR
My 2005 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Fabian Washington, CB

The Jaguars have needed someone across from Rashean Mathis for a long time. Well, not anymore. Only this isn't real. D'oh!

  6. Baltimore Ravens: Evan Mathis, G, Alabama
Actual 2005 NFL Draft Pick: Mark Clayton, WR
My 2005 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Matt "Coke Zero" Jones, WR

The Ravens steal a talented AFC North guard, and opt not to draft one of two crappy receivers.

  7. Oakland Raiders: Carlos Rogers, CB, Auburn
Actual 2005 NFL Draft Pick: Fabian Washington, CB
My 2005 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Justin Miller, CB

I don't know if Carlos Rogers is great enough for Al Davis, but at this point in the 2005 NFL Draft, he should be.

  8. Green Bay Packers: Jason Campbell, QB, Auburn
Actual 2005 NFL Draft Pick: Aaron Rodgers, QB
My 2005 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Marlin Jackson, CB

Hey, I'm not intentionally pissing off the 2005 version of Brett Favre again; Jason Campbell's simply the best available player who fills an eventual position of need.

  9. Washington Redskins: Sione Pouha, DT, Utah
Actual 2005 NFL Draft Pick: Jason Campbell, QB
My 2005 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Jason Campbell, QB

One of Washington's two starting defensive tackles was Joe Salave'a. Let's get Emmitt's take on this:

"Joe Salave'a name after the thing that come out of people mouth that is white - but not the thing that go into the mouth of a woman in video that have sexisms inside."

  10. Seattle Seahawks: Lance Moore, WR, Toledo
Actual 2005 NFL Draft Pick: Chris Spencer, C
My 2005 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Dan Cody, DE

Aside from crooked officiating, the reason the Seahawks lost in the Super Bowl to the Steelers was because their receivers dropped too many passes. Lance Moore is the top wideout available.

  11. Atlanta Falcons: Jonathan Babineaux, DT, Iowa
Actual 2005 NFL Draft Pick: Roddy White, WR
My 2005 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Shaun Cody, DT/DE

Jonathan Babineaux is one of the most underrated players in the NFL. He has worked out really well for the Falcons.

  12. San Diego Chargers: Matt Roth, DE/OLB, Iowa
Actual 2005 NFL Draft Pick: Luis Castillo, DE/DT
My 2005 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Thomas Davis, S/OLB

Matt Roth's definitely not the pass-rusher that Shawne Merriman is, but he's one of the top players available and fills a position of need. As you can see, the 2005 class wasn't very deep.

  13. Indianapolis Colts: Mike Patterson, DT, USC
Actual 2005 NFL Draft Pick: Marlin Jackson, CB
My 2005 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Barrett Ruud, ILB

The Colts were so desperate for defensive tackle help that they signed the 400-pound Corey Simon. That didn't work out too well - especially when Simon accidentally ate Tony Dungy's clipboard.

  14. Pittsburgh Steelers: Heath Miller, TE, Virginia
Actual 2005 NFL Draft Pick: Heath Miller, TE
My 2005 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Heath Miller, TE

Funny story about Heath Miller - I was a 5th-year senior at Penn State during the 2005 NFL Draft. A few days after the draft, I went out to a bar at Penn State (Sharkey's) to meet some friends. While I was waiting for a bartender, I overheard two older Steeler fans talking to each other. One guy said, "Can't believe we drafted a tight end. What the hell are we gonna use a tight end for? I don't think this guy's any good." Obviously a disciple of the Sun Tan Man.

  15. Philadelphia Eagles: Brandon Jacobs, RB, Southern Illinois
Actual 2005 NFL Draft Pick: Mike Patterson, DT
My 2005 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Roddy White, WR

I wanted to put Brandon Jacobs and Ronnie Brown somewhere earlier in the bottom half of this re-draft, but no team needed a running back. The Eagles don't really either, but Jacobs is way too good to pass up. Besides, a power complement to the oft-injured Brian Westbrook wouldn't have hurt.

  16. New England Patriots: Ronnie Brown, RB, Auburn
Actual 2005 NFL Draft Pick: Logan Mankins, G
My 2005 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Odell Thurman, ILB

The Patriots aren't desperate for a running back either, but once again someone like Ronnie Brown is too good to pass up. Corey Dillon was 31 at this point, so Brown would have taken over in 2006 anyway.
