This is a 2004 NFL Draft Re-Mock, just in case you missed the big blue letters up top. I'm going back to 2004 and re-distributing all of the 2004 NFL Draft prospects to all of the teams in the 2004 NFL Draft order. This 2004 NFL Draft Re-Mock is based on how these players have performed in their careers, as well as the needs each team had back in 2004.

2004 NFL Draft Re-Mock: Picks 1-16

17. Denver Broncos: D.J. Williams, LB, Miami

    My 2004 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Steven Jackson, RB
    
    The Broncos drafted D.J. Williams originally. I'd say it worked out for them.
    
    
18. New Orleans Saints: Jonathan Vilma, ILB, Miami
    Actual 2004 NFL Draft Pick: Will Smith, DE
    My 2004 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Chris Gamble, CB
    
    Jonathan Vilma played an important role in New Orleans' Super Bowl season. They didn't draft him, but they can cut through the middle man (Eric Mangina) and just obtain Vilma right away.
    
    
19. Minnesota Vikings: Antwan Odom, DE, Alabama

    My 2004 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Antwan Odom, DE
    
    Antwan Odom led the league in sacks last year before suffering a season-ending injury. Minnesota's sack leader in 2004 from the defensive end position was Kenechi Udeze with five. And if those aren't good enough reasons for the Vikings to take Odom, I originally mocked Odom to them. So there.
    
    
20. Miami Dolphins: Randy Starks, DT, Maryland

    Randy Starks is a terror against the run and also excels as a pass-rusher. He can also play both the 4-3 and 3-4 (Miami ran the former at the time).
    
    
    
    
    
21. New England Patriots: Chris Gamble, CB, Ohio State

    My 2004 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Dunta Robinson, CB
    
    The cornerback situation for New England was so dire during this period that Bill Belichick asked receiver Troy Brown to play corner extensively. The Patriots also started rookie Randall Gay for nine games in 2004. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
    
    
22. Dallas Cowboys: Dunta Robinson, CB, South Carolina

    Dunta Robinson is very talented, but has missed his fair share of games, which is why he's listed this low in this 2004 NFL Draft Re-Mock. The Cowboys literally had nothing across from Terence Newman (Lance Frazier), so even an injured Robinson would have been an upgrade.
    
    
23. Seattle Seahawks: Tommie Harris, DT, Oklahoma

    I guess the Seahawks clearly needed a defensive tackle. Too bad they drafted the wrong guy to upgrade incumbents Cedric Woodard and Rashad Moore. Tommie Harris has been really injury-prone lately, but he was a great player at the beginning of his career. Maybe Seattle beats the Steelers and the crooked refs in the Super Bowl with Harris.
    
    
24. Cincinnati Bengals: Kellen Winslow Jr., TE, Miami

    What a stupid pick. The Bengals never take pass-catching tight ends this high. Derrrr! In all seriousness, if Cincinnati can select Jermaine Gresham, it can also take Kellen Winslow Jr.
    
    
    
    
    
25. Green Bay Packers: Nick Hardwick, C, Purdue

    The Packers didn't have much at center.
    
    Funny story about Ahmad Carroll. I mocked Carroll in the second round of one of my 2004 NFL Mock Drafts. Some crazy lunatic e-mailed me, "Yo man, why don't you have any respect for Ahmad Batman Carroll!?!? He's gonna be the best cornerback in the NFL! Remember Ahmad Batman Carroll!"
    
    Thanks, glue-sniffing e-mailer. Thanks to you, I definitely remembered Ahmad "Batman" Carroll.
    
    
26. St. Louis Rams: Daryl Smith, OLB, Georgia Tech

    Daryl Smith is one of the most underrated players in the NFL. I say he's an upgrade over Tommy Polley.
    
    
27. Tennessee Titans: Chris Snee, G, Boston College

    My 2004 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Dwan Edwards, DT
    
    Ah, if only Ben F. Troupe was as good as his Berman-ism. The Titans started fifth-round rookie Jacob Bell at left guard in 2004, so stud run-blocker Chris Snee is a perfect fit.
    
    
28. Philadelphia Eagles: Robert Gallery, G, Iowa

    Had I done this in 2006 or 2007, I would have received e-mails asking me if I had some of Matt Millen's LSD while re-mocking Robert Gallery over Shawn Andrews. Now it's an obvious move. Andrews possessed all of the talent in the world, but just had emotional issues that ruined his career. Gallery, meanwhile, was a bust as a left tackle, but has been great at guard for Oakland.

    I didn't know what to do with Bob Sanders. He's one of the most talented players in this class, but he has been injured so much that I questioned putting him in the first round. However, this is a good fit because Sanders helped the Colts secure a Super Bowl victory following the 2006 regular season.
    
    
30. Kansas City Chiefs: Vernon Carey, OT, Miami

    What the hell happened to Rashaun Woods? He was once a highly touted receiving prospect, but has completely disappeared. Is he still alive? And if so, does he live in a shack in the woods somewhere, eating nothing but berries and squirrels?
    
    At any rate, this was the beginning of Kansas City's downfall. Instead of fixing their offensive line - John Tait left for Chicago - the Chiefs spent their selection on bum defensive tackle Junior Saliva. Kansas City has never recovered, nor has learned its lesson.

    This is the penultimate pick of the 2004 NFL Draft Re-Mock, so I have to mention that I lost Picks 17-32 of the original version. I had to do the bottom half of this re-mock all over again, which was a pain in the a**. So just let me mock current guard Travelle Wharton to the Panthers and let me be.

    I do, however, remember re-mocking Chris Cooley to the Patriots in the original version while insulting Ben Watson in the process. If only I could remember what I wrote. Ah, well. You won't be so lucky next time, Mr. Watson.
