This is a 2006 NFL Draft Re-Mock, just in case you missed the big blue letters up top. I'm going back to 2006 and re-distributing all of the 2006 NFL Draft prospects to all of the teams in the 2005 NFL Draft order. This 2006 NFL Draft Re-Mock is based on how these players have performed in their careers, as well as the needs each team had back in 2006.

2006 NFL Draft Re-Mock: Picks 1-16
-
Minnesota Vikings: Jahri Evans, G, Bloomsburg
Actual 2006 NFL Draft Pick: Chad Greenway, OLB
My 2006 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Laurence Maroney, RB
The Vikings had bums like Adam Goldberg, Marcus Johnson, Anthony Herrera and Chris Liwienski starting at guard in 2005. And don't worry, Bill. Chris is not your illegitimate child.
-
Dallas Cowboys: Miles Austin-Jones, WR, Monmouth
Actual 2006 NFL Draft Pick: Bobby Carpenter, ILB
My 2006 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Jason Allen, CB
Jerry Jones loves Miles Austin so much that he will marry him in September 2014. At any rate, the Cowboys needed some youth at receiver at this point with Keyshawn Johnson (34) and Terry Glenn (32) rapidly declining.
-
San Diego Chargers: Brandon Marshall, WR, Central Florida
Actual 2006 NFL Draft Pick: Antonio Cromartie, CB
My 2006 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Santonio Holmes, WR
I apparently thought the Chargers needed help at receiver - and for good reason. Some guy named Eric Parker was starting across from a 36-year-old Keenan McCardell.
If you're wondering why I have Brandon Marshall below Greg Jennings and Marques Colston, it's because of character issues. I wouldn't want Marshall on my team. It can't be a coincidence that he's never played in a postseason game, while Jennings and Colston both have won Super Bowls.
-
Kansas City Chiefs: Barry Cofield, DT, Northwestern
Actual 2006 NFL Draft Pick: Tamba Hali, DE
My 2006 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Johnathan Joseph, CB
Tamba Hali's not available, but the Chiefs can still land a dominant defensive lineman. Barry Cofield, one of the most underrated players in the NFL, would have been a huge upgrade over Lional Dalton or John Browning.
-
New England Patriots: DeAngelo Williams, RB, Memphis
Actual 2006 NFL Draft Pick: Laurence Maroney, RB
My 2006 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Manny Lawson, DE/OLB
Choosing Laurence Maroney over DeAngelo Williams - I'm going out on a limb here, but I don't think that was a wise decision.
By the way, check out the alma maters of the previous five prospects: Memphis, Northwestern, Central Florida, Monmouth and Bloomsburg. Not exactly the hotbed of college football.
-
San Francisco 49ers: Stephen Tulloch, ILB, N.C. State
Actual 2006 NFL Draft Pick: Manny Lawson, DE/OLB
My 2006 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Jimmy Smith, CB
Drafting Stephen Tulloch would probably preempt the 49ers from taking Patrick Willis the following April, but that's not how this re-mock works. Why can't I account for Willis? Because I said so! Ha!
Besides, Tulloch is a pretty awesome linebacker.
-
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Willie Colon, OT, Hofstra
Actual 2006 NFL Draft Pick: Davin Joseph, G
My 2006 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Marcus McNeill, OT
Two Hofstra players in the re-mock. Strange, isn't it?
Willie Colon would have been a major upgrade over Kenyatta Walker. And don't worry, Kenyatta, they'll name an unstoppable female horse after you in four years.
-
Cincinnati Bengals: Nick Mangold, C, Ohio State
Actual 2006 NFL Draft Pick: Johnathan Joseph, CB
My 2006 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Tamba Hali, DE
When a 36-year-old man named Rich Braham is your starting center, it's time to find an upgrade - though I guess the Bengals are somewhat happy with Johnathan Joseph.
-
New York Giants: Ray Edwards, DE, Purdue
Actual 2006 NFL Draft Pick: Mathias Kiwanuka, DE
My 2006 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Antonio Cromartie, CB
If the Giants wanted to find a successor for Michael Strahan, they could have drafted Ray Edwards instead. It's unclear how Edwards will fare without Jared Allen and the Williams Wall, so this is a conservative spot for him in this re-mock.
-
Chicago Bears: Devin Hester, KR, Miami
Actual 2006 NFL Draft Pick: Daniel Manning, S
My 2006 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Leonard Pope, TE
It's a good thing the Bears didn't draft his holiness Pope Leonard. They would end up taking Devin Hester in the second round, but they'll have to grab him here. I would never advocate drafting a kick returner in Round 1 - unless he's the best return specialist in NFL history.
-
Carolina Panthers: Kyle Williams, DT, LSU
Actual 2006 NFL Draft Pick: DeAngelo Williams, RB
My 2006 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Chad Greenway, OLB
Kyle Williams just had a Pro Bowl-caliber year for the Bills. Imagine how dominant Carolina's defensive front would have been with Williams, Julius Peppers, Kris Jenkins and Mike Rucker. Every quarterback in the NFC South would have suffered an injury in 2006.
-
Jacksonville Jaguars: Vernon Davis, TE, Maryland
Actual 2006 NFL Draft Pick: Marcedes Lewis, TE
My 2006 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Bobby Carpenter, OLB
Vernon Davis is an incredible talent, but it took Mike Singletary to come along for him to live up to expectations. With Jack Del Rio running things in Jacksonville, Davis probably would have spent weeks at a time at the beach with his head coach.
-
New York Jets: Owen Daniels, TE, Wisconsin
Actual 2006 NFL Draft Pick: Nick Mangold, OT
My 2006 NFL Mock Draft Pick: DeAngelo Williams, RB
It was close between Vernon Davis and Owen Daniels, but I ranked Davis over Daniels because of the latter's injury history. Still, Daniels is a phenomenal player and would have served as a huge upgrade over Doug Jolley.
-
Indianapolis Colts: Domata Peko, DT, Michigan State
Actual 2006 NFL Draft Pick: Joseph Addai, RB
My 2006 NFL Mock Draft Pick: LenDale White, RB
Bill Polian is all about spending first-round picks on offensive players and defensive ends. But Domata Peko is way better than anyone available at those positions. Besides, the Corey Simon experiment just failed miserably in Indianapolis. The turning point was when Simon showed up at 450 pounds and had to be rolled around between plays.
-
Seattle Seahawks: A.J. Hawk, OLB, Ohio State
Actual 2006 NFL Draft Pick: Kelly Jennings, CB
My 2006 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Donte Whitner, S
A.J. Hawk has had an up-and-down career in Green Bay, but he's worth drafting at No. 31. At the very worst, he'll prevent the Seahawks from picking Aaron Curry three years from now.
-
Pittsburgh Steelers: Antonio Cromartie, CB, Florida State
Actual 2006 NFL Draft Pick: Santonio Holmes, WR
My 2006 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Sinorice Moss, WR
The Steelers don't like taking cornerbacks in the first round, but their defense would definitely benefit from a play-maker like Antonio Cromartie. Opposing quarterbacks completed just 44.6 percent of their passes against Cromartie this year, good for fourth-best among full-time corners.
