This is a 2008 NFL Draft Re-Mock, just in case you missed the big blue letters up top. I'm going back to 2008 and re-distributing all of the 2008 NFL Draft prospects to all of the teams in the 2008 NFL Draft order. This 2008 NFL Draft Re-Mock is based on how these players have performed in their careers, as well as the needs each team had back in 2008.

2007 NFL Draft Re-Mock: Picks 1-16

  1. Kansas City Chiefs: Branden Albert, OT, Virginia
Actual 2008 NFL Draft Pick: Branden Albert, OT
My 2008 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Phillip Merling, DE

The Chiefs had a big hole at left tackle in the 2008 NFL Draft, which is why they selected Branden Albert. If this franchise was willing to give him a $9 million franchise payout, it would definitely pick him No. 17 overall in a re-mock.

  2. Houston Texans: Stevie Johnson, WR, Kentucky
Actual 2008 NFL Draft Pick: Duane Brown, OT
My 2008 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Mike Jenkins, CB

The Texans have needed a No. 2 wide receiver for years. Perhaps Gary Kubiak's inexplicable obsession with Kevin Walter could have been avoided if he had just drafted Stevie Johnson, who somehow fell to the seventh round in real life.

  3. Philadelphia Eagles: Carl Nicks, G, Nebraska
Actual 2008 NFL Draft Pick: DeSean Jackson, WR
My 2008 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Devin Thomas, WR

Shawn Andrews disappeared in the spring of 2008. He went MIA for a bit and then showed up to training camp. He said he was battling depression issues. He played two games and then was knocked out of the year because of back problems. The Eagles could have avoided all of this drama with Carl Nicks.

  4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, TSU
Actual 2008 NFL Draft Pick: Aqib Talib, CB
My 2008 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Brian Brohm, QB

The Buccaneers chose Aqib Talib with this selection. Talib's the top prospect still available, but I doubt the Buccaneers would want to deal with his nonsense again. That's why I'm giving them a slightly lesser corner with slightly less nonsense.

  5. Washington Redskins: Jordy Nelson, WR, Kansas State
Actual 2008 NFL Draft Pick: Devin Thomas, WR
My 2008 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Limas Sweed, WR

The Redskins were so desperate for receiver help five years ago that they spent two picks in the top couple of rounds on wideouts. Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly were both major busts. Let's give Washington a receiver who actually played football in 2012.

  6. Dallas Cowboys: Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas
Actual 2008 NFL Draft Pick: Mike Jenkins, CB
My 2008 NFL Mock Draft Pick: DeSean Jackson, WR

The Cowboys tried their luck with a corner, but Mike Jenkins would end up being a huge disappointment. Dallas would have been much better off with Aqib Talib, even with all of his baggage.

  7. Pittsburgh Steelers: Josh Sitton, G, Louisville
Actual 2008 NFL Draft Pick: Rashard Mendenhall, RB
My 2008 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Gosder Cherilus, OT

I can just keep what I wrote in my 2008 NFL Mock Draft: "Pittsburgh's front surrendered 47 sacks in 2007. The unit couldn't even keep the Rams out of the backfield. It got worse against the Jaguars, as Ben Roethlisberger was sacked four times in the first 20 minutes. Now, Alan Faneca is gone. Major help is needed here."

Guess the Steelers should have gone offensive line over yet another failed Big Ten running back.

  8. Tennessee Titans: Matt Forte, RB, Tulane
Actual 2008 NFL Draft Pick: Chris Johnson, RB
My 2008 NFL Mock Draft Pick: James Hardy, WR

The Titans shocked the draft world by selecting Chris Johnson in the first round just one year after using an early selection on another running back (Chris Henry). Johnson's not on the board, but Matt Forte wouldn't be a bad fallback option.

  9. Seattle Seahawks: Pierre Garcon, WR, Mount Union
Actual 2008 NFL Draft Pick: Lawrence Jackson, DE
My 2008 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Jonathan Stewart, RB

Wide receiver was Seattle's No. 2 need entering the offseason behind running back. All they did to satisfy that hole was sign someone named Joel Filani. Who the hell is that? Sounds like he should have his own cooking show.

  10. Jacksonville Jaguars: DeSean Jackson, WR/PR, California
Actual 2008 NFL Draft Pick: Derrick Harvey, DE
My 2008 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Kentwan Balmer, DT

Speaking of crappy skill-position players, look what the Seahawks did to fill their hole at receiver: Traded for Troy Williamson; signed Jerry Porter and Craphonso Thorpe. Those wideouts were so crappy that they even had crap in their names.

DeSean Jackson would have been a much better option. Some would argue that he should be higher, but Jackson is one of the most overrated players in the NFL. He has great plays from time to time, but seldom does anything.

  11. San Diego Chargers: Sam Baker, OT, USC
Actual 2008 NFL Draft Pick: Antoine Cason, CB
My 2008 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Duane Brown, OT

Ah, if only A.J. Smith had chosen Duane Brown over bust corner Antoine Cason, Philip Rivers might have actually enjoyed a productive year. Terrible draft picks like this one will get you fired. It's amazing Smith hadn't been axed sooner. At any rate, Sam Baker makes sense as Rivers' blind-side protector.

  12. Dallas Cowboys: Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
Actual 2008 NFL Draft Pick: Felix Jones, RB
My 2008 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Aqib Talib, CB

Like Felix Jones, Darren McFadden is very injury-prone. Unlike Felix Jones, Darren McFadden actually belonged in the first round. An Arkansas alumnus, Jerry Jones desperately wanted either runner five years ago. He gets the better one in this scenario.

  13. San Francisco 49ers: Danny Amendola, WR, Texas Tech
Actual 2008 NFL Draft Pick: Kentwan Balmer, DT
My 2008 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Quentin Groves, DE/OLB

Want to guess who the 49ers' leading receiver was in 2007? Arnaz Battle. Who? Exactly. Battle led all Niner wideouts with 50 receptions and 600 yards. Danny Amendola is just a slot receiver, but he could have really bolstered the unit.

  14. Green Bay Packers: Philip Wheeler, LB, Georgia Tech
Actual 2008 NFL Draft Pick: Jordy Nelson, WR
My 2008 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Antoine Cason, CB

The Packers were running a 4-3 defense back in 2008. Their starting strongside linebacker was the mediocre Brady Poppinga. Philip Wheeler would have been a major upgrade. I wanted to slot Wheeler quite a bit earlier, but I couldn't find a need fit.

  15. New England Patriots:
Actual 2008 NFL Draft Pick: None
My 2008 NFL Mock Draft Pick: None

Pick was forfeited due to Spygate. Good times.

  16. New York Giants: Brandon Carr, CB, Grand Valley State
Actual 2008 NFL Draft Pick: Kenny Phillips, S
My 2008 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Kenny Phillips, S

The Super Bowl champion Giants were looking for cornerback depth because they didn't have anyone behind Aaron Ross and Corey Webster. They eventually drafted Terrell Thomas, but I'm sure they'd prefer someone who's starting for arch-rival Dallas right now.
