-
Jacksonville Jaguars: Menelik Watson, OT, Florida State
There has been some speculation that Menelik Watson could go in the first round. This is close enough. Watson would fill a big need for the Jaguars. General manager David Caldwell was recently asked who his right tackle was, and he couldn't answer that question.
Follow @walterfootball for updates.
Pick change; previously Ryan Nassib, QB
-
San Francisco 49ers: Margus Hunt, DE/DT, SMU
The 49ers' defense looked lost defensively when Justin Smith got hurt last year. Unfortunately for San Francisco, Smith will be 34 several months following the 2013 NFL Draft, and he'll also be entering his walk year. Injury insurance and an eventual replacement are needed.
-
Philadelphia Eagles: E.J. Manuel, QB, Florida State
Chip Kelly said there would be competition at the quarterback position. He probably meant between the signal-caller he just retained, Dennis Dixon and whomever he drafts in Round 2 or 3. I can't see Nick Foles staying on the roster; he doesn't fit the offense, and the Eagles can get a third-rounder at the very worst for him.
E.J. Manuel is the best fit for Kelly's offense out of the signal-callers available at this juncture.
-
Detroit Lions: Justin Pugh, OT/G, Syracuse
As I mentioned in Round 1, the Lions are desperate for a left tackle in the wake of Jeff Backus' retirement. Justin Pugh has been mentioned as a possible first-round selection, particularly by the NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah, so he could be the top player on Detroit's board.
Pick change; previously Menelik Watson, OT
-
Cincinnati Bengals: Kyle Long, OT/G, Oregon
It was once considered a given that the Bengals would retain Andre Smith, but ProFootballTalk recently reported that Cincinnati is now expected to let Smith walk away and instead search for a cheaper replacement at right tackle in the 2013 NFL Draft.
Pick change; previously Matt Elam, S
-
Arizona Cardinals: Terron Armstead, OT, Arkansas-Pine Bluff
This is a pretty obvious selection. The Cardinals have pressing offensive line issues that they'll absolutely need to resolve this offseason. If they want to keep Carson Palmer healthy, they'll need to find multiple upgrades up front.
Pick change; previously Mike Glennon, QB
-
New York Jets: Zach Ertz, TE, Stanford
The Jets need a replacement at tight end after losing Dustin Keller to the Dolphins. They reportedly love Zach Ertz, so they'll take him if he's available at this juncture.
Pick change; previously Matt Barkley, QB
-
Tennessee Titans: Larry Warford, G, Kentucky
The Titans signed Andy Levitre, but Chance Warmack and Jonathan Cooper are still in play at No. 10 overall. If they're not chosen, Larry Warford will be considered in Round 2. He'll blast open huge holes for Chris Johnson, who won't have to do much more dancing.
Pick change; previously Robert Alford, CB
-
Buffalo Bills: Ryan Nassib, QB, Syracuse
General manager Buddy Nix told the media that he would probably trade up for a quarterback this April. He could definitely move up several spots in the second round to take Ryan Nassib.
Pick change; previously Quinton Patton, WR
-
Miami Dolphins: Robert Alford, CB, Southeastern Louisiana
Brent Grimes was signed, but cornerback is still a huge need for Miami. Counting on Grimes, who is coming off a torn Achilles, would be foolish, so the Dolphins could easily go after two corners relatively early in the 2013 NFL Draft.
Pick change; previously Justin Pugh, G/OT
-
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Johnthan Banks, CB, Mississippi State
The Buccaneers failed to land a cornerback in the first round of this mock draft update, so they'll need to do so on Day 2. Their cornerback corps is an abomination.
-
Carolina Panthers: Matt Elam, S, Florida
Hiro Nakamura could stop time. Haruki Nakamura can't stop anyone. OK, I've made that joke a lot before, but it's a classic. At any rate, Nakamura has to be upgraded. The Panthers desperately need safety help.
Pick change; previously Jamar Taylor, CB
-
Cleveland Browns: Alex Okafor, DE/OLB, Texas
The Browns have this pick from the trade in Round 1 that I referenced on Twitter (@walterfootball).
Michael Lombardi loves having tons of pass-rushers, so he could be looking for one early in the 2013 NFL Draft. Alex Okafor has the size that Lombardi, Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick like to have out of their rush linebackers.
-
St. Louis Rams: Eddie Lacy, RB, Alabama
The Rams just lost Steven Jackson to the Falcons, so they'll have to find another running back to compete with Daryl Richardson and Isaiah Pead. Eddie Lacy could fall on Draft Day because he hasn't been able to work out, but he'd be a steal at this juncture.
-
Dallas Cowboys: Eric Reid, S, LSU
The safety position was a major weak point for the Cowboys this past season after Barry Church tore his Achilles' tendon. Gerald Sensabaugh's release only magnified that need, though the team did recently sign Will Allen.
Pick change; previously Bennie Logan, DT
-
Pittsburgh Steelers: Kevin Minter, ILB, LSU
The Steelers, as they always do, catch a falling prospect. Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette recently reported that the Steelers could be targeting an inside linebacker early in the 2013 NFL Draft. Kevin Minter may go at the end of the first round, so he's a steal at this juncture.
-
New York Giants: Khaseem Greene, LB, Rutgers
Keith Rivers just signed a 1-year deal, but he's not the long-term solution because he can never stay healthy. General manager Jerry Reese said that there needs to be better linebacker play next year.
Pick change; previously Kyle Long, OT/G
-
Chicago Bears: Arthur Brown, LB, Kansas State
I had Arthur Brown going to Chicago in the first round of last week's update, but I'm hearing he could fall a bit because of some injury concerns. The Bears have shown lots of interest in him, however, so they could move up a few spots in Round 2 to land the talented linebacker.
The Bears once had a strong group of linebackers, but Nick Roach just signed with the Raiders, while Brian Urlacher was told to hit the road because he wouldn't accept $2 million for 2013. D.J. Williams was signed, and while he's currently projected to replace Urlacher in the middle, he could ultimately move to strongside linebacker if Chicago can land someone as talented as Brown.
Pick change; previously Larry Warford, G
-
Washington Redskins: Darius Slay, CB, Mississippi State
The Redskins signed E.J. Biggers and retained DeAngelo Hall, so they're OK at cornerback for now. However, Biggers, Hall and Josh Wilson all have expiring contracts in March 2014. Long-term corner help is needed.
-
Minnesota Vikings: Robert Woods, WR, USC
The front office has to add more talent to complement a very inconsistent Christian Ponder especially in the wake of the Percy Harvin trade. Go here to see my grade for the Percy Harvin trade. Multiple wideouts had to be obtained for Ponder prior to the Greg Jennings signing. One more is still needed.
Pick change; previously Manti Te'o, LB
-
Cincinnati Bengals: Johnathan Franklin, RB, UCLA
BenJarvus Green-Ellis rushed for 100-plus yards in four of the five games prior to battling Pittsburgh, but that's mostly just great blocking rather than the Law Firm improving. One of the Bengals' top priorities is finding a capable running back. Johnathan Franklin, who is getting a ton of positive buzz right now, would complement Green-Ellis very well.
-
Miami Dolphins: Kawann Short, DT, Purdue
The Dolphins franchised Randy Starks, but Paul Soliai is entering his walk year. That means both defensive tackles will be free agents next March. Miami has shown interest in plenty of defensive tackles this offseason, so it'll probably draft one early.
Pick change; previously Alex Okafor, DE/OLB
-
Green Bay Packers: John Jenkins, NT, Georgia
John Jenkins doesn't fill an immediate need, but he would help with depth right away. More importantly, he'd provide the Packers with a successor for Ryan Pickett and insurance just in case they can't retain B.J. Raji, who will be a free agent next spring.
Pick change; previously Eric Reid, S
-
Seattle Seahawks: Quinton Patton, WR, Louisiana Tech
The Seahawks traded for Percy Harvin, but they could be in the market for another wideout because Sidney Rice is so unreliable. They're reportedly heavily interested in Quinton Patton.
Pick change; previously Terron Armstead, OT
-
Houston Texans: Jordan Reed, TE, Florida
The Texans love utilizing multiple tight ends. They'll be looking for another one this offseason in the wake of losing James Casey to the Eagles.
Pick change; previously Zach Ertz, TE
-
Denver Broncos: Johnathan Hankins, NT, Ohio State
The Broncos signed Terrance Knighton, but that doesn't mean they won't add another interior lineman. Jack Del Rio loves having multiple massive defensive tackles. Think back to his days in Jacksonville with Marcus Stroud and John Henderson.
Pick change; previously John Jenkins, NT
-
New England Patriots: Markus Wheaton, WR, Oregon State
It's no secret the Patriots need receiving help in the wake of losing both Wes Welker and Brandon Lloyd this offseason. Markus Wheaton fits exactly what Bill Belichick looks for in a receiver, and this is the right draft range for him.
Pick change; previously Blidi Wreh-Wilson, CB
-
Atlanta Falcons: Cornelius Washington, DE/OLB, Georgia
The overpaid Ray Edwards was cut during the season. John Abraham was also released recently. Defensive end will be a priority early in the 2013 NFL Draft, and the Falcons may even double dip at the position in the first few rounds.
Pick change; previously Jamie Collins, DE/OLB
-
San Francisco 49ers: Jesse Williams, NT, Alabama
The most frustrating part about creating this year's mock draft is finding a spot for all of the nose tackles. There are just too many, and there aren't enough teams that need them. The 49ers, as an example, don't value the position highly, but I think they'll see the value in obtaining someone like Jesse Williams at the end of Round 2.
-
Baltimore Ravens: D.J. Swearinger, S, South Carolina
Ed Reed signed with the Texans. Michael Huff came in to replace him, but the Ravens still have one more hole at safety because of the Bernard Pollard release.
