Georgia's Jalen Carter Second-Highest Graded Preseason Prospect

The Georgia defense was the star of the 2021 college football season, and that translated to the 2022 NFL Draft, where defensive end Travon Walker was the No. 1-overall pick and defensive tackles Jordan Davis and Devonte Wyatt were also taken in Round 1. While that trio left for the NFL, the Bulldogs once again could have the top interior defensive lineman for the oncoming NFL draft with defensive tackle Jalen Carter. According to NFL team sources, Carter had the second-highest preseason grade of any prospect for the 2023 NFL Draft, with only Alabama edge rusher Will Anderson receiving a higher preseason grade.

Carter flashed serious ability as a sophomore in 2021, totaling 37 tackles and three sacks while backing up Davis and Wyatt. The 6-foot-3, 310-pound Carter has quality size to go along with speed and athleticism. With Davis, Wyatt and Walker all having moved on to the NFL, Carter and edge rusher Nolan Smith should be the featured defenders in Georgia's scheme this coming season. If Carter builds on his 2021 performance, he could end up being a high first-round pick, like Walker. Team sources already feel Carter has the potential to be one of the best prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft.
