Round 1
Steelers fans would love this pick since Joey Sr. was an excellent pass rusher for the team in the early 2000s. Long and athletic, Joey Jr. would give the Steelers that shutdown #1 corner they need.
Chargers get: Pick 18
Lions get: Picks 21, 125 and a 2024 4th round pick
Running back Austin Ekeler has asked for a trade since the Chargers seem hesitant to work out a new deal with him. If the two parties can’t reconcile, the Chargers could look to move on with Bijan Robinson, a big, powerful back who’s an excellent receiver out of the backfield. He’s an elite RB talent and top 10 talent in the class, but being a running back pushes him down some. A couple 4ths isn’t a bad price to pay for an elite talent.
Tampa Bay released Donovan Smith, creating an opening at offensive tackle that can be filled right away by Darnell Wright, who would likely take over at right tackle and move Tristan Wirfs to left tackle.
I feel Nolan Smith is worth a top 10-15 pick, so the Seahawks are getting some nice value here. His size and athletic profile mirror Haason Reddick, and we know how great a player Reddick is. He and Uchenna Nwosu would wreak some havoc on opposing teams. Also, for a smaller edge guy, he’s a better run defender than you’d expect.
Giants get: Pick 21
Lions get: Picks 25, 172 and a 2024 4th round pick
Big Blue finds a big receiver to compliment their collection of smaller targets in TCU’s Quentin Johnston, who some scouts have compared to A.J. Green.
Lamar Jackson’s future isn’t any more certain after the Ravens slapped the non-exclusive franchise tag on him. Regardless of how it plays out, this team needs receiver help. Zay Flowers has been a big pre-draft riser, and the Ravens took a liking to him at the Shrine Bowl.
Bills get: Pick 23
Vikings get: Picks 27 and 130
Buffalo could be looking for a future #2 receiver with Gabe Davis in the final year of his rookie deal. Jordan Addison’s stock isn’t exactly at its highest, but he’s got a bit of DeVonta Smith in him with his excellent route running skills.
Kancey ran a faster 40 than Aaron Donald, another undersized ex-Pitt defensive tackle whose specialty is getting after the passer. Donald is a future Hall of Famer, and Kancey is drawing a few comparisons to Donald. He may be more Ed Oliver, but Oliver was once a top 10 pick himself. He’d be a nice fit in Jacksonville.
Saints get: Picks 25 and 82
Lions get: Picks 29, 71 and a 2024 5th round pick
Alvin Kamara has some serious legal issues going on, so the Saints decide to get out in front of that and move up for Jahmyr Gibbs, who may be the best pass catching running back in the class. His game draws a lot of parallels to Kamari’s.
Officially, Dalton Schultz walked out the door in free agency to Houston, so the Cowboys get another Dalton (Kincaid) to take his spot.
Chiefs get: Pick 27
Vikings get: Picks 31, 134 and a 2024 4th round pick
Reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City signed Jawaan Taylor in free agency to replace Orlando Brown, and now they move up for Anton Harrison to re-establish bookend tackles to protect Mahomes. Taylor will reportedly be moved to left tackle, but if that doesn’t work, Harrison has played the position at a very high level for the Sooners the last two years.
Bringing Orlando Brown aboard on a 4 year, 64 million dollar deal was a coup. But with incumbent left tackle Jonah Williams seeking a trade and La’el Collins unreliable, it could be wise to draft Dawand Jones. He’s a big mauler of a right tackle who is fairly similar to Brown coming out of college.
Steelers get: Picks 29, 55 and 194
Lions get: Picks 32 and 49
This would be a fantastic first round for the Steelers. They get their shutdown corner and now get some needed defensive line help in Bryan Bresee, who’s healthy and may have his best football ahead of him.
Arguably, no player has risen more over the predraft process than this man. He showed out at the Senior Bowl and somehow topped that at the combine. Some teams are viewing him as a 3-tech, which is just what the Eagles need. Imagine him learning from Fletcher Cox for a year.
Maryland corner Deonte Banks sneaks into the first round here with Minnesota. The ex-Terp didn’t show great ball skills in college, but he’s as long, speedy and athletic as a team could hope for.
