Fixing the Viking Published at 12/19/2016

Alright i saw another rant on the same subject and thought i would do my own. So here is my off season plan for the Vikings
First move cut Adrian Peterson. Vikings will go into the off-season with about $24 million in cap space. Cutting Peterson saves them $18 million in cap space.
Now given roster needs, dead money, and contracts I dont see the Vikes making any other big cuts. Bradford should stick given the price to get him and Teddy Bridgewaters injury.
So after cutting A.P. the Vikes will have around $42 million in cap space. With this years offensive tackle class being so week and OT being such a week spot on the Vikings roster I have them going out and signing 2 new tackles. The Vikings go out and sign Menelik Watson and Ricky Wagner. Watson isnt the long term answer at LT but given the Vikings cap situation and the lack of talent available he should be servicable. Wagner steps in and starts at RT.
Hopefully after signing Wagner and Watson this will leave the Vikings with enough room to re-sign Cordarrelle Paterson. With the o-line situation and the way Bradford and Bridgewater play keeping Patterson, who can take short passes and turn them into big plays, is important. Berger should also be re-signed.
On to the draft. No first rounder will make things rough for the Vikings, with a 2nd, two 3rds, and two 4ths the Vikings should be able to get a few contributors. With their 2nd round pick the Viking select Joe Mixon running back oklahoma. Mixon has a big red flag for punching that lady in college but is a huge talent. Mixon is a big play threat and thanks to splitting time with Perine he doesnt have the mileage of some of the other backs in the draft. Mixon is also a good receiver out of the backfield who can turn a screen into a huge play which is a big deal when you're starting Sam Bradford. With their first 3rd round pick the Vikings grab Charles Walker dt Oklahoma. D-tackle may not seem like a huge need but Shariff Floyd cant stay healthy. Walker will help give the Vikings more interior pass rush. With their second 3rd rounder the Vikings grab Taylor Moton OT/OG Western Michigan. The hope is Moton starts at RG and can slide out and play tackle when needed. With the two 4ths the Vikings could go ahead and grab Samaje Perine rb Oklahoma and Randall Goforth Safety UCLA. Perine fills Asaita's role and hopefully Goforth can slide in next to Harrison Smith.
With all this I still think the Vikings will be handicapped by their QB situation. I'm not a believer in Bridgewater and cant believe that Sam Bradford is not on I.R. yet especially given the o-line situation in Minnesota. The o-line will continue to be a problem also unless Clemmings can step up and provide some quality depth. The safety spot next to Smith will also be a weakness but maybe after teams start making cuts the Vikings can restructure Bradford's deal and pick up someone like Reshad Jones, who could be a cap casualty.
