Charlotte Bobcats Draft Review And Outlook Published at 6/29/2016
|
I will be going through all 30 teams, grading their drafts & giving my thoughts on what should happen for that team going forward.
The Charlotte Bobcats
The Draft:
The Bobcats traded the #22 overall selection, which turned out to be Malachi Richardson, to the Kings for Marco Belinelli.
Overall: D-
Belinelli is a pretty good shooter and scorer, but is coming off of a down year – 38.6% from the field & 30.6% from three. However, his career percentages (42.4% from the floor, 37.9% from three) suggest he can perform better next year. Belinelli was truly one of the worst players in the NBA this past season – we all know by now that he is a sieve defensively, so when he’s shooting a slash line like he did this past season, he doesn’t justify any playing time. And when you factor in that the Bobcats could’ve taken one of the falling big men (Davis and Skal) at this spot, this ends up being a rough night for Bobcat fans. I truly believe that Charlotte would’ve been better off taking the actual #22 pick, Malachi Richardson, here instead. Maybe I’ve been a little rough on the guy; I mean, he did play in Sacramento for a whole season – and that’s really gotta get you down.
Where the Nets go from here:
Resign Nic Batum: This one should be pretty obvious – Batum is one of the best all-around players in the league who is well-deserving of the max.
Resign Jeremy Lin: Lin provided a huge spark as the 6th man for the Bobcats, especially in the second-half of the season. He’s still a very crafty scorer and has become a better 3-point shooter and defender this past year. He may prove to be tough to resign, as he could find a starting gig elsewhere.
Sign a Rim Protector: The Bobcats should look to sign a true rim-protector to play next to Kaminsky and Zeller, as neither offer much rim protection. This would really help their defense. Possibilities include: Dwight Howard, Bismack Biyombo, Ian Mahinmi, Zaza Pachulia
Add some shooters: The Bobcats should continue to look for some three-point shooting off the bench, especially with Belinelli coming off of a down year. Possibilities include: Jarryd Bayless, Courtney Lee, Tyler Johnson
