Round 1

Picks 17-31
17. Colts: Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia

The Colts could absolutely be in the market for a quarterback, but the second tier of quarterbacks (Anthony Richardson, Hendon Hooker, Tanner McKee) just feel a little too raw for a first, especially when the Colts have plenty of other problems, like for instance along the offensive line. This was supposed to be their biggest strength, but it's crumbled around them this year, and left Matt Ryan to fight for his life in the pocket. Broderick Jones could easily slide into either the left tackle or right guard slot with minimal prep time.

18. Giants: Joey Porter Jr., CB, Penn State

This is another team that could look at quarterback, since Daniel Jones is playing for his job, however, I think they'll make a play for Lamar Jackson, and failing that, they could snag any number of capable stopgaps that would probably be better than Daniel Jones (Jimmy G, Geno Smith, Taylor Heinicke, etc). They only have two, COUNT 'EM: TWO, interceptions through ten games, tied for worst in the league with New Orleans. Much like his old man, Joey Porter Jr.'s a great tackler in space, and is one of the better cover corners in this draft class.

19. Chargers: Christian Gonzalez, CB, Oregon

J.C. Jackson is looking like a big ol' bust-a-roo in his short stint so far with the Chargers, and even if he rebounds soon, another corner to help in that department would still be huge. Christian Gonzalez ends off this mini-run of corners and is someone who's rising up draft boards. He plays very intelligently, never allowing his receiver to even sniff an opening, and having the ideal size that one looks for at the cornerback position.

20. Buccaneers: Bijan Robinson, RB, Texas

Running backs are back, baby! The two odds-on favorites for Rookie of the Year this year are Kenneth Walker and Dameon Pierce, and if he hadn't got hurt earlier this season, Breece Hall would be in that conversation too. The Buccaneers have the worst rushing offense in the league, and it actually feels worse than that. Robinson is the best running back prospect since Ezekiel Elliott, and running back is far and away the biggest hole in their team that can be filled at this spot (O-line can be resolved in the second round). A strong run game extends Tom Brady's career, and by extension, the Bucs' playoff window.

21. Commanders: Michael Mayer, TE, Notre Dame

I think it's time we come to the tragic consensus that Logan Thomas is not a consistent starting TE1. He's hurt way too often, and he's only a decent tight end even if he does see the field all season. Michael Mayer is someone who could actually go a couple of places higher up, like the Packers, Giants, or Colts, but Washington feels like the first place where he satisfies an area of need, without other players in this range feeling like a bigger priority. Whoever is throwing for Washington next season could use a big bodied target, who loves to block and runs super crispy routes. Mayer ticks all the boxes you want from a top-tier tight end.

22. Titans: Trenton Simpson, LB, Clemson

The Titans would be devastated to have just missed out on Mayer, as they've been needing an elite tight end since Delanie Walker left. But failing that could they could look at replacing their leading tackler and interceptor David Long Jr, an impending free agent, and Trenton Simpson would be perfect for that role. He's a strong coverage linebacker and an excellent tackler. Seems like the sort of player that Mike Vrabel would love.

23. Seahawks: Brian Branch, S, Alabama

Would it be wrong to say that the Jamal Adams experimental was a failure? He never seemed to be able to stay healthy, and even if he did, he didn't seem to fit their defense. It's time to move on from him, and they can do so by picking up the best safety in the class, Alabama's Brian Branch. Branch can play damn near every position in the back seven, and can be a strong anchor for their young, developing secondary.

24. Ravens: Kayshon Boutte, WR, LSU

It feels like the Ravens go wide receiver first round every other year, but none of them seem to stick. Hollywood Brown never clicked with Lamar Jackson, and Rashod Bateman hasn't broken out yet and given the Ravens offense a second dimension. I think he could be fine, but he needs someone to assist him, and Kayshon Boutte could be that other weapon. The man could blow the top off of defenses and secure tough catches. If he hadn't been hurt last year, Boutte could be in the same range as Quentin Johnston and JSN from earlier.

25. Cowboys: O'Cyrus Torrence, G, Florida

Last year, the Cowboys spent a first on a left tackle to replace La'el Collins. This year, they spent a first on a guard to replace Connor Williams, who they lost last year as well. The Boys always pride themselves on having a strong line, and this would make total sense to continue to open up holes for Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott. Torrence is a run blocking juggernaut, and could become a much stronger pass blocker in the Cowboys system that seems to never stop finding good linemen.

26. Vikings: Clark Phillips, CB, Utah

If I could describe the Vikings defense in a word, it would be "old". Harrison Smith, Patrick Peterson, Jordan Hicks, and Eric Kendricks are all past 30, and while they're all still at least solid, fresh blood in the secondary would be very good for them. Phillips is a strong playmaker, who can turn on a dime and strike when the receiver thinks they're safe.

27. Chiefs: Josh Downs, WR, North Carolina

The Chiefs receiver room is in a serious state of flux. Both Juju and Mecole Hardman are impending free agents, and the free agent class outside of them is rough this season. This is an issue that almost has to be resolved in the draft, and Josh Downs would make a solid addition to this team. Downs is on the smaller side of receivers, but his acceleration has to be seen to be believed. He can reach top speed in an instant and zoom past opposing defenders. Paired with a talent like Pat Mahomes at QB, Downs in this spot could offer Offensive Rookie of the Year upside.

28. Bengals: Jared Verse, DE, Florida State

The Bengals have really fallen off this season in terms of rushing the quarterback. Trey Hendrickson is still on pace for double-digit sacks, but there's no one else aside from him. Jared Verse could step into that #2 pass rusher role quite well. He dominated at FCS Albany, and he hasn't missed a step in his likely only season as a Seminole, where he's amassed 7.5 sacks, and could be a guy who climbs the board all offseason.

29. Broncos: Anton Harrison, OT, Oklahoma

via San Francisco (and Miami)
The Broncos will eventually get people like Garrett Bowles, Tim Patrick, and Javonte Williams back next season, which makes selecting someone here a bit tricky. I suppose tackle is still in play here, since their right tackle situation has been sticky even at full strength, so let's give this spot to Anton Harrison. He's got good speed for a big man, and can be the lead blocker for long runs. Oklahoma has a history of good tackles, and Harrison could be next in that lineage.

30. Eagles: Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Alabama

You guys, again? Don't you already have enough good players? Fine, how about an Alabama running back to make you even more unfair. Miles Sanders is an impending free agent, and you don't really need to tie down an ok running back like Sanders to a big extension. Say sayonara to him, and bring in Gibbs, an explosive, high-energy runner who can potentially be a difference maker for the Eagles immediately. There aren't many positions the Eagles can say that about, but this is definitely one of them if they lose Sanders.

31. Bills: Noah Sewell, ILB, Oregon

The Bills are a hard team to shop for, but they might be losing Trumaine Edmunds this season, and if Noah Sewell falls down this far to the Bills, it would be an absolute coup. Sewell is a massive dude who can make massive dude plays. He breaks opposing lines in half, and could be an absolute terror, especially if he's learning from an already beefy linebacker corps.
