With the draft in the books time to go back and do a wrap up of how teams made out. I might be a bit of a harsh critic to the top 3 round picks, but that is where you need to hit in the draft to be successful. Sure most of the league is 4th rounders and later, but any that turn into Pro Bowlers or All-Pro players is mostly out of luck. So without further adieu, let's continue on with the Washington Redskins.

1 (2) - Chase Young DE Ohio St - B

3 (2) - Antonio Gibson WR/RB Memphis - C-

I was a big fan of a possibility of trading down here for the Redskins. While, I completely understand the draw to Chase Young who many saw as the best player in the draft, the Redskins with so few picks were left picking scraps afterwards trying to play catch up. Young will be a great player without a doubt, but on a defense that invested so heavily in the line with Ryan Kerrigan, Da'Ron Payne, Jonathan Allen, Matt Ionnidis, Montez Sweat, and Ryan Anderson, I wonder where he will fit in. Obviously he will be the best of the bunch, but their defensive front was never an issue. I know Ron Rivera is moving to a 4-3 front so he will fit a little better, but still the need more help on offense to make Dwayne Haskins work. No matter how good Young becomes, it will not be until Haskins finds his way for them to start winning more consistently. To be honest, I still do not see him as a better prospect to that of the Bosa brothers, Josh Allen, or even Khalil Mack when he came out of Buffalo. It will not be shocking if Young is on a different team by the end of his rookie contract much like Jadeveon Clowney. Now to their second and only other pick in the first three rounds Antonio Gibson is just an okay prospect. He will be an interesting companion to Terry McLaurin giving them two nats in the passing game to keep in check. I would have preferred a corner, or blocker here instead. Even a more dominant outside receiver would be a better option. Gibson is a converted receiver to quarterback now back to receiver when he reaches the NFL. Overall, sure Young can be the best player in the draft, but he will be in a similar situation to where Saquon Barkley is with the Giants after many saw him as the best player two seasons ago.

4 (2) - Saahdiq Charles OT LSU - D

4 (36) - Antonio Gandy-Golden WR Liberty - A+

5 (11) - Keith Ismael OG/C San Diego St - B

5 (17) - Khaleke Hudson S/LB Michigan - B-

7 (2) - Kamren Curl S Arkansas - C+

7 (15) - James Smith-Williams DE N.C. State - B

In a surprising move, the Redskins finally moved their All-Pro and disgruntled tackle in Trent Williams to the 49ers. They got nothing in return for such a great player and owner Dan Snyder played this surprisingly bad even for his track record. Then in another stunning move they took Saahdiq Charles who even the coaching staff at LSU did not speak too highly of. He is a problem off the field and is another headache incoming after they just rid themselves of Williams. He does have talent, but how long until it blows up in their face. Had they picked Gandy-Golden where they took Gibson and vice versa I would love those picks even more. I think Gandy-Golden will be a big time playmaker and one I think many teams will kick themselves for passing on. Ismael will be a quality depth option to groom on the line where injuries seem to be a yearly problem in Washington. Hudson has nice upside as a hybrid linebacker who can fill a Shaq Thompson like role in Rivera's defense. Curl is a fine special teamer and Smith-Williams has upside, but has off field endevours that will distract him from his NFL career with a hope in IBM. To me the back half of this draft class is very solid, but that does not make up for a lack of attention to their weak offense. Sure Gandy-Golden, and Ismael could work, but they needed more than a hope to turn Haskins around. Overall, this class gets a B- and it will probably look good in the media. However, I still think they will be the fourth best team in their division and would not be shocked if they are fighting to the bottom of the league to land Trevor Lawrence at the end of the year.
