Last update: Saturday, April 26, 2008. Finishing touches for all seven rounds.
Next update: If any news breaks, this will be updated. I'll have a RE-DRAFT (Rounds 3-7) posted for Day 2 by Sunday morning.

This NFL Draft order is based on the 2008 NFL Draft Order and 2008 Draft Prospect Rankings.
  1. Dallas Cowboys: Craig Steltz, SS, LSU
The Cowboys just acquired this pick for Akin Ayodele and Anthony Fasano.

As I mentioned in my Cowboys 2008 Offseason page, there's a good chance Roy Williams could be released or traded, per the Dallas Morning News. Dallas needs an upgrade at strong safety.

Pick change; previously Jeremy Thompson, DE/OLB (Dolphins)

  2. St. Louis Rams: Kirk Barton, OT, Ohio State
Marc Bulger was sacked 37 times in 12 starts this season. He actually broke the same amount of ribs, forcing the Rams to sign Trent Green to a contract worth $9 million. Wow. Way to spend tons of cash on a 38-year-old quarterback coming off two concussions, whose skills have completely diminished. The St. Louis front office would have been better served using that $9 million as toilet paper. Once again, not surprised they're 17-34 the past three years.

Where was I? Oh yeah... the line needs to be addressed, as Orlando Pace is too injury-prone, while Alex Barron is really inconsistent.

  3. New York Jets: Jerome Simpson, WR, Coastal Carolina
The Jets' offense was so stale last year because they lacked a tertiary receiver and a potent deep threat. Jerome Simpson can help pump some juice into this scoring attack, assuming, of course, that it's not bogged down by Brian Schottenheimer.

  4. Atlanta Falcons: Barry Richardson, OT, Clemson
This is the last place I had Heath Benedict until he passed away. I want to give my condolonces to Heath's family, friends and classmates.

Atlanta's offensive front is one of the league's worst. The team needs two upgrades at offensive tackle in the worst way possible.

  5. Oakland Raiders: Tony Hills, OT, Texas
Congratulations, JaMarcus Russell! Your left tackle is Kwame Harris! You will be sacked at least 60 times this year!

There are some injury concerns with Tony Hills, but I'm sure Al Davis doesn't care. After all, every single one of his non-crappy free-agent signings are coming off ACL tears, save for Gibril Wilson.

  6. Kansas City Chiefs: Eddie Royal, WR/PR, Virginia Tech
The Chiefs have nothing at receiver after Dwayne Bowe. As a rookie, Bowe recorded 995 yards. Ranking in at No. 2 was Jeff Webb, 313 yards. Yeeesh. Call me nuts, but I don't think Devard Darling is the answer.

  7. Baltimore Ravens: William Franklin, WR, Missouri
Derrick Mason is coming off an incredible season, catching 103 passes for 1,087 yards. However, he just turned 34, so he's not going to be around much longer. I'm also not sure if Mark Clayton's the answer.

  8. San Francisco 49ers: Dexter Jackson, WR, Appalachian State
I know the 49ers just signed Bryant Johnson and Isaac Bruce, but they have to be crazy if they expect the latter to play well enough to start. And as for Johnson, he failed to produce when Larry Fitzgerald and/or Anquan Boldin were out of the lineup. Mike Martz loves having tons of wide outs to work with.

  9. Denver Broncos: Lavelle Hawkins, WR, California
He's not Earl Bennett - Jay Cutler completed 22-of-22 attempts to his former wide out at Vanderbilt in a recent workout - but Lavelle Hawkins should be able to do just fine filling the void for an injured and porn-deprived Brandon Marshall.

Pick change; previously Jonathan Goff, ILB

  10. Carolina Panthers: Kendall Langford, DE, Hampton
The Panthers don't have much depth on their defensive line, so I'd like to see them add that here.

  11. Chicago Bears: Josh Johnson, QB, San Diego
The Bears really need to bring in someone at the quarterback position because another season of Rex Grossman getting hurt, followed by Kyle Orton drawing intentional grounding penalties because he can't get the ball downfield, would be disastrous.

Pick change; previously John David Booty, QB

  12. Detroit Lions: Brandon Keith, OT, Northern Iowa
Mike Martz has gone on to San Francisco, where he will attempt to sell Alex Smith's organs on the black market once his crappy protection schemes cause them pop out of his new quarterback's body. The Lions need help at offensive tackle so they can move Jeff Backus inside.

Pick change; previously Frank Okam, DT

  13. Cincinnati Bengals: Kevin Smith, RB, Central Florida
This is getting a bit ridiculous. It seems like the Bengals draft a running back early every year. But the fact remains they're in dire need of an upgrade. It looks like Kenny Irons won't make it back from his ACL injury (Marvin Lewis recently stated that he doesn't expect anything from him in 2008); Chris Perry gets hurt every year; while Rudi Johnson was almost as sloth-like as Shaun Alexander in 2007, which is saying a lot.

  14. New York Jets: Beau Bell, ILB, UNLV
Do I really have to delve into how horrendous the Jets' defense was this year? They were 29th against the run, managed just 29 sacks and couldn't force any turnovers. Part of the reason for that was because Jonathan Vilma was playing out of position. Vilma's gone, and will be replaced by the mediocre, soon-to-be 31-year-old Eric Barton. The Jets need a long-term solution next to David Harris at inside linebacker.

  15. Buffalo Bills: John Carlson, TE, Notre Dame
Even with the Bills obtaining a possession receiver in Round 2, they still need a premier tight end to help Trent Edwards' development.

  16. Philadelphia Eagles: DeMario Pressley, DT, N.C. State
As I've discussed in previous mocks, Andy Reid loves drafting linemen. The cupboard's pretty bare at defensive tackle for the Eagles beyond Mike Patterson and Brodrick Bunkley.

  17. Arizona Cardinals: Orlando Scandrick, CB, Boise State
More help for the Cardinals at the cornerback position. With really solid quarterbacks like Matt Hasselbeck, Marc Bulger and Alex Smith (just kidding) in their division, they need all the help at this position that they can get.

  18. Minnesota Vikings: Thomas DeCoud, FS, California
I think getting Thomas DeCoud this late is a steal. And call me crazy, but replacing Dwight Smith with the oft-injured Madieu Williams isn't going to vastly improve a Minnesota pass defense that was ranked dead last in the NFL last year. The Vikings will be in big trouble if Williams goes down again. They'll at least have an insurance policy with DeCoud.

  19. Houston Texans: Jeremy Zuttah, OT, Rutgers
The Texans don't have much in terms of depth at offensive tackle. Jeremy Zuttah, perfect for the team's zone-blocking scheme, would be a nice fit here.

  25. Minnesota Vikings: Thomas DeCoud, FS, California

  27. Denver Broncos: Corey Lynch, FS, Appalachian State
John Lynch is just a few years away from eating Jell-O thrice a day and purposely dropping things just to watch hot nurses bend over. The Broncos need some youth at safety.

Corey Lynch is one of the most underrated players in this draft, and Denver is getting a potential gem here.

Pick change; previously Lavelle Hawkins, WR

  28. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Breno Giacomini, OT, Louisville
Luke Petitgout is injury-prone and Donald Penn might not be the long-term answer at left tackle for the Buccaneers.

  29. Seattle Seahawks: Eric Young, G, Tennessee
Seattle's running game has been hurting ever since Steve Hutchinson left for Minnesota. I'm not sure if Eric Young is the answer, but he's the best guard available and consequently worth a shot.

  30. Cleveland Browns: Shawn Crable, DE/OLB, Michigan
This is Cleveland's first draft pick, as the team dealt all of its choices away. It actually did a great job filling most of its needs. One thing it didn't address, however, is the rush linebacker position.

  31. Pittsburgh Steelers: Owen Schmitt, FB, West Virginia
Rumors are abound that the Steelers will be targeting a running back in the first few rounds. They're concerned with Willie Parker's durability, and disgusted with Najeh Davenport's lackluster performance against the Jaguars in the Doggone Playoff. Pittsburgh has needed a power back to pair with Parker ever since Jerome Bettis retired.

So, why not a mammoth fullback to fill that role? Owen Schmitt is a blue-collar player Steeler fans will fall in love with.

  32. Tennessee Titans: Wesley Woodyard, OLB, Kentucky
Depth behind Keith Bulluck. If Josh Stamer gets any playing time, the Titans will be in trouble.

Wesley Woodyard had an incredible combine and could go much higher come April. He just slips out of circumstance; weakside linebacker isn't a huge need for many teams in this draft.

  33. Jacksonville Jaguars: Brian Johnston, DE, Gardner-Webb
I thought the Jaguars needed help at defensive end even before Bobby McCray left town. Reggie Hayward, who hasn't been able to stay healthy the past two seasons, may not be around much longer.

Brian Johnston is an intriguing prospect; at 276 pounds, he just ran a 4.66 and notched a 35-inch vertical at his Pro Day.

  34. Tennessee Titans: Jack Williams, CB, Kent State
The Titans acquired this pick for a corner, so it would be fitting if they took one here. Tennessee's a little thin at the position.

  35. Indianapolis Colts: Chris Ellis, DE, Virginia Tech
The Colts need depth behind Dwight Freeney just in case he gets hurt again. After Freeney went down, they couldn't put pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

  36. Green Bay Packers: John David Booty, QB, USC
Brett Favre has officially retired, meaning the Packers just have Aaron Rodgers... and... uhh... Aaron Rodgers at quarterback (should I be concerned that I just sounded like Emmitt Smith?) Depth is needed because I doubt Rodgers is invincible like Favre.

John David Booty projects as a solid pro quarterback, but the one thing I'd be scared to death about is the fact that he had the smallest hands of any quarterback at the combine, meaning he could be very prone to fumbling in the NFL.

  37. New England Patriots: Harry Douglas, WR, Louisville
The Patriots could be looking for a speed-burner in the middle of the draft, as they just lost Donte' Stallworth to the Browns.

  38. New York Giants: Jamar Adams, SS, Michigan
The Giants signed Sammy Knight as temporary solution at strong safety. They need something long term. Jamar Adams will compete with Michael Johnson to be that guy.

Pick change; previously Brad Cottam, TE

  39. Philadelphia Eagles: Marcus Howard, OLB, Georgia
I'm not exactly sure why the Eagles felt the need to cut Takeo Spikes, who figured to be a solid backup linebacker in 2008. Depth is now needed here, even with the addition of Rocky Boiman.

  40. Buffalo Bills: Chris Harrington, DE, Texas A&M
The Bills don't really have anything behind Aaron Schobel at right end.

  41. Baltimore Ravens: Steve Justice, C, Wake Forest
Baltimore is really hurting in terms of depth in the middle of their offensive line.

  42. Tennessee Titans: Darius Reynaud, WR, West Virginia
More receiving help for the Titans - if they actually realize that their current wide outs suck.

  43. Green Bay Packers: Paul Hubbard, WR, Wisconsin
Receiver isn't a need right now, but because the Packers don't have many needs, I'm looking at Best Player Available at this point. Besides, I don't expect Donald Driver, who just turned 33, to be around much longer.
