Back to Overreaction 2013 NFL Mock Draft: Picks 1-16
-
Pittsburgh Steelers: Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State
The Steelers go with the best player available and land a replacement for the aging Casey Hampton. Pittsburgh also seems to like Ohio State products. -
Dallas Cowboys: John Jenkins, DT, Georgia
The Cowboys could use an improved presence on their defensive line. They almost took a lineman in the first round the past two years. -
New Orleans Saints: Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri
TRADE: The Saints are without their second-round pick, so they will look to add more selections by moving down. Here, New Orleans finds a partner with the New York Giants. Richardson would be a great value at No. 19 and a perfect fit for the Saints. -
Chicago Bears: Alec Ogletree, ILB, Georgia
The Bears' defense requires an impact player at middle linebacker. Brian Urlacher is just about done in his great career, so landing Ogletree would be a no-brainer considering there isn't a good left tackle available. Chicago would be a candidate to trade down as well since the team is without a third-round pick. -
Carolina Panthers: Kawann Short, DT, Purdue
TRADE: Carolina moved down with Cincinnati. The Panthers have to upgrade the weak interior of their defensive line. They're fortunate they can move down and still land a good tackle. -
Minnesota Vikings: Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee
The Vikings need a big wideout to move the chains for Christian Ponder. They will especially need a receiver if they trade away Percy Harvin. -
St. Louis Rams: Kyle Van Noy, OLB, BYU
The Rams need an outside linebacker to upgrade their defense. Van Noy could be tremendous behind their defensive line and in front of their talented young secondary. -
Baltimore Ravens: Matt Elam, S, Florida
The Ravens find a replacement for Ed Reed. They have to start replacing their Hall of Fame defenders. -
Indianapolis Colts: Kenny Vaccaro, S, Texas
The Colts' defense needs a play-maker on the back end. Vaccaro would provide a real presence for Indianapolis. -
Seattle Seahawks: Terrance Williams, WR, Baylor
The Seahawks need to land more receiving weapons for Russell Wilson. Williams is a nice value pick with his combination of size and speed. -
Arizona Cardinals: Tyler Wilson, QB, Arkansas
TRADE: Arizona moves back into the first round with a trade with Green Bay. The Cardinals have to land a franchise quarterback next offseason, and Wilson's skill set would be a nice combination with their receiving corps. -
Houston Texans: Johnthan Banks, CB, Mississippi State
The Texans go with the best player available; a team can never have enough good defensive backs. -
Buffalo Bills: Matt Barkley, QB, USC
TRADE: Buffalo makes a trade with San Francisco in order to move back into the first round to land a quarterback. Barkley could still end up being a first-rounder. Jake Locker was after an underwhelming senior season similar to Barkley's. -
New England Patriots: Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia
The Patriots land a replacement for Wes Welker. Austin could be a great weapon to complement New England's tight ends. -
Atlanta Falcons: Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU
The Falcons have to find a young pass-rusher to replace John Abraham. Ansah has a ton of upside. -
New York Jets: Ryan Nassib, QB, Syracuse
TRADE: The Broncos moved out of the first round for the second straight season, and once again, they help the Jets make a deal to get a quarterback. Right now, Nassib is my favorite quarterback prospect in this draft class, and I think his stock is going to steadily rise over the months to come.
-
Green Bay Packers: Barrett Jones, C, Alabama
The Packers could use an upgrade for the interior of their offensive line, and Jones would be a great fit in Green Bay.
-
Denver Broncos: Jonathan Cooper, G, North Carolina
The Broncos improve their run blocking and pass protection with Cooper. They will need a strong line to keep Peyton Manning going.
-
San Francisco 49ers: David Amerson, CB, N.C. State
The 49ers have a loaded roster and can trade down to acquire future picks. This isn't a great draft class, so it makes sense for San Francisco to get more picks for better classes in the years to come. Amerson would be a nice fit, and the 49ers could use some youth at corner.
