Browns Off season Plan

Despite finishing with a 1-15 record the Cleveland Browns might be able to reverse the fortunes of the Factory of Sadness provided that they hit a home run in this crucial off season. If I were the GM of the Browns this is what I would do this off season

1) Cut RGIII. The experiment was worth trying but once again RGIII proved he does not have the durability to be a starting quarterback in the NFL and he wasn't exactly overly impressive when he was healthy

2) Re-sign Jordan Poyer (S) and Terrelle Pryor (WR). Jordan was playing pretty well before being hurt and at worst would be solid depth and Terrelle Pryor was the only reliable weapon in the passing game and needs to be retained for the sake of the Browns QB's

3)Team Needs:

QB (Three Options: Get Jimmy G, Get Tyrod Taylor, Stay with Kessler; obviously if any of these plans fail the loaded 2018 QB class will be a good fallback option)

WR (Only if Pryor isn't resigned)

TE (Barnidge is alright but can't block, Devalve has potential as a reciever, Telfair is mediocre blocker but no receiving ability)

C (Cam Erving's future is not at center)

G (Bitonio is good but coming off injury and Greco is alright but not irreplaceable)

DT (Specifically a 3 technique for the 4-3)

MLB (Kirksey kicks out to weakside linebacker in the 4-3 leaving a hole in the middle)

Slot/Outside CB (Depending on whether Jamar Taylor is best suited for the slot or outside. Regardless another corner is needed)

S (Poyer could use a capable partner)

4) Free Agency

While swamped in cap space the Browns should focus on building team through the draft but a few holes should be plugged via free agency

OG Ronald Leary/Kevin Zietler: Both very talented guards who should take over for Greco and Zietler would come with the added bonus of stealing him from a divisional rival

CB A.J. Bouye/Stephon Gilmore/Morris Claiborne: Joe Haden has seeming regressed rapidly and while not entirely necessary the Browns could go out and make a splash signing on a corner to replace Haden

QB: Tyrod Taylor: If the Bills decide to release Tyrod he should immediately be on the Browns radar. He is a good fit for what Hue Jackson wants to do and still has some upside. Should he become available the Browns should work to sign this potential franchise signal caller or at the very worst bridge QB

5) Draft Day

1.1 Myles Garrett; No brainer here. Take the blue chip player and best player available and suddenly the D-line becomes a burgeoning strength

1.12 Take Blue Chip Prospect (Jamal Adams, Malik Hooker, Jonathan Allen, Solomon Thomas, Reuben Foster, OJ Howard). At this point the Browns need as many high-impact players as possible. In Adams and Hooker the Browns would get elite safeties to pair up with Jordan Poyer and shore up the back end, in Allen and Thomas the Browns would get their 3 technique in the 4-3 defense to line up next to Garrett and Shelton and have an extremely formidable D-Line, Foster would round out an already great group of linebackers in Collins and Kirksey and OJ Howard would give the Browns an elite and movable weapon on the field. Don't take a CB here cause good values can be found later in the draft. If none of these players are available I would call up the Patriots and trade this pick for Jimmy G

2.1 This pick depends solely on what happens at 1.12. If Adams or Hooker was taken at 1.12 then take a DT (Malik McDowell, Montravious Adams, Caleb Brantley, Jaleel Johnson). If Allen or Thomas was taken then take a safety (Obi Melifonwu, Budda Baker, Jabrill Peppers). If Foster or Howard was taken then take the highest rated DT or Safety on the board

2.20 Take a Cornerback with this pick. Jourdan Lewis if Taylor is an outside corner, Kevin King or Adoree Jackson if Taylor is a slot corner

3.1 Take Pat Elflein. Local product and plug and play kid at center

4.1, 4.35, 5.1 Address the rest of the team needs that haven't been filled with the previous picks (TE: Jake Butt, Michael Roberts, George Kittle) (DT: Chris Wormley, Nazair Jones, Charles Walker) (MLB: Kendall Beckwith, Duke Riley, Alex Anzalone)

Rest of draft Take BPA

6) Depth Chart (Offense)

QB: Kessler/Taylor/Jimmy G

RB: Crowell & Johnson

FB: Vitale

WR1: Pryor

TE: Barnidge/Howard

LT: Thomas

LG: Bitonio

C: Elflein

RG: Leary/Zietler

RT: Shon Coleman

WR2: Coleman

WR3: Louis or Higgins

6b) Depth Chart (Defense)

LE: Garrett

DT: Allen/Thomas/McDowell/Adams/Brantley/Johnson/etc

DT: Shelton

RE: Ogbah

SLB: Collins

MLB: Demario Davis/Beckwith/Riley/Anzalone

WLB: Kirksey

CB1: Haden/Bouye/Gilmore/Claiborne

SS: Adams/Melifonwu/Baker/Hooker

FS: Poyer

CB2: Taylor/King/Jackson

CB3: Taylor/Lewis

This roster could reasonably compete in almost every game and can win even with non-stellar QB play
