Jacksonville Jaguars Off-Season Plan Published at 3/3/2017
|
Current Salary Cap Space: 66.933 M
Re-sign John Cyprian 26, SS, 5 M (five years)
Jabaal Sheard DE 27 9.5 M (Four Years)
Salary-Cap Space after signings: 42.433 M
John Cyprian was with the Jaguars last season and did a very good job. Leary had a very good year last year with the Cowboys and knows what good line play is all about. With a little better line play, maybe the jags can get a little more out of their quarterback. Leary would be an upgrade to anyone on their current roster. Sheard played with New England last year and won a Super Bowl, his presence would be a also be an upgrade to a defeated roster.
Currently the Jaguars have the #4 overall pick. In this scenario, they need a defensive tackle, cornerback and tight end (for starters). Jacksonville also had below-average play out of their running backs last year, but after signing Chris Ivory to a contract at the time being the fifth highest of all running backs (ludicrous) and signing TJ Yeldon in the second round, I don't see them addressing running back in the draft.
Quarterback is another concern. As long as Bortles continues to focus on other things other than football, Jacksonville will struggle. They reached for him at number three (everyone said this at the time) and he has had an up-and-down career thus far. If he has another down year, Jacksonville will be forced to move on and may need to draft a quarterback in next year's "loaded" class. With this in mind, and to the draft.
Draft:
Round 1 (#10) Caleb Brantley DT Florida (if not available OJ Howard TE Alabama)
Round 2 (#35) Adoree' Jackson CB, USC (if they don't get Brantley, Wormley DT Michigan, or best CB available)
Round 3 (#68) Evan Engram TE Mississippi
Rest of Draft Value
*In other off-season plans, I have put Malik McDowell DT Michigan State higher than Brantley and Wormley, however McDowell needs a little motivation and Jacksonville is not the place for him despite a superior skill set.
