Round 1

Picks 17-32
17. Jaguars: Adonai Mitchell, WR, Texas

I believe Mitchell is going to go a lot higher than expected. He is one of the most freakish athletes to ever enter the NFL, and when you do a little digging, the "character concerns" teams have about him are largely due to a 20 year old doing a poor job managing his diabetes. He's going to be fine, and I think he's gonna be a stud.

Previous Pick: WR Brian Thomas
Other Scenarios: iOL Graham Barton, CB Nate Wiggins

18. Raiders: Jared Verse, DE, Florida State

I think Tom Telesco is a solid drafter, though historically he has been really, really bad at hiring coaches. Still, this is a chance for Vegas to add some talent. After trading down with the Bengals, Vegas is pleasantly suprised to see that Jared Verse is still available. This isn't a weak edge class, but strengths at other positions push some good players down.

Previous Pick: Bengals select CB Nate Wiggins
Other Scenarios: OT Taliese Fuaga, OT Tyler Guyton

19. Rams: Laiatu Latu, DE, UCLA

The Rams and Raiders are similary excited here. Both teams have a need at EDGE, and while the Rams could go a lot of different directions, I think they are likely to spend their first top 32 pick since 2016 on a premium position. There are health concerns about Latu , but if his neck is alright, he could be one of the top players from this class.

Previous Pick: EDGE Chop Robinson
Other Scenarios: DT Johnny Newton, CB Kool-Aid McKinstrey

20. Steelers: Graham Barton, G/OT, Duke

I strongly, STRONGLY considered Bryan Thomas with this pick, as the Steelers could use some juice at WR after moving Diontae Johnson. However, Barton would be a home-run. The Duke star is one of the most versatile lineman in the draft. Pittsburgh can try him at Center, Guard, and *maybe* even Right Tackle.

Previous Pick: C Jackson Powers-Johnson
Other Scenarios: WR Adonai Mitchell, OT Amarius Mims, OT JC Latham

21. Packers: Cooper DeJean, S/CB, Iowa

Green Bay moves up a few spots, leap-frogging Philly and the Chargers in order to add Cooper DeJean. With how this draft falls, I think a move-up is super likely for the Packers, especially once Barton is off the board. DeJean can play multiple positions in the defensive backfield, and is a classic GB type.

Previous Pick: Dolphins select CB Kool-Aid McKinstrey

22. Eagles: Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson

Philly tends to have more liberal size requirements than many teams--see Smith, Devonta--and that makes Wiggins a really good fit for the Eggles. He is a blistering fast CB, and should be an automatic starter for an Eagles team facing a potential make-or-break season for Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts.

Previous Pick: OT Taliese Fuaga
Other Scenarios: OT JC Latham, EDGE Chop Robinson

23. Chargers: Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia

The Chargers should be THRILLED with how this falls for them in a trade-down hypothetical. Sure, it would have been nice to come away with one of the draft's top CBs, but a stud TE and a freaky OT prospect? Mims needs seasoning, but if LA can develop him, he and Rashawn Slater could be stalwarts on the Offensive Line for years to come.

Previous Pick: Chargers select OT Tyler Guyton

24. Cowboys: Brian Thomas Jr., WR, LSU

There are always a few teams who do something unexpected. There are other players that, on paper, could make more sense here. But who is CeeDee Lamb's running mate this year? Michael Gallup and Amari Cooper are gone. Brandin Cooks and Jalen Tolbert are role-players. There is a sneaky need at WR, and Bryan Thomas would be a really nice pairing with Lamb.

Previous Pick: OT Troy Fautanu
Other Scenarios: OT Tyler Guyton, OT Amarius Mims

25. Packers: Cooper DeJean, S/CB, Iowa

DeJean to Green Bay is a really popular mock. The Hawkeye DB has some position versatility, and can probably take snaps at both boundary Corner and Safety. Eric Stokes may never reach the upside he flashed as a rookie, so adding someone who can compete for a starting job would be great for the Packers.

Other Scenarios: iOL Graham Barton, OT Amarius Mims

26. Buccaneers: Jackson Powers-Johnson, C, Oregon

There are rumblings that JPJ is going on day 2, but I just don't think that is likely. The Duck Offensive Lineman is a steady, reliable starter. I don't think he's ever a Pro Bowler, but he could be a starting presence on this line for the next ten years.

27. Cardinals: Braden Fiske, DT, Florida State

Fiske is exactly the kind of player that sneaks into the first round without a lot of fanfare. The Florida State DT is an older prospect at 24, but he is a good athlete who plays with a ton of grit. At the tail-end of the first, I love guys like Fiske who might not have huge ceilings, but have really safe floors as reliable starters in the NFL.

28. Bills: Ladd McConkey, WR, Georgia

The Bills have fallen into a trap. Coming into this offeseason, I believe they either needed to blow it up and try to reload quickly around Josh Allen with a ton of draft capital OR they needed to keep veterans around and take one last authentic shot at the Super Bowl with this iteration of the roster. Instead they tread an awkward middle ground, shipping out Stefon Diggs while (re)signing a bunch of older vets. I don't know what they do here, but at least Ladd McConkey won a pair of national championships.

29. Lions: Mike Sainristil, CB, Michigan

Not long after I published the first version of this Mock with Sainristil going 29th, there was a report that teams really, really like him. I'm not saying I'm a draft guru but... Slot Corner has become a position in of itself in recent years, and the Michigan DB may be the best Slot in the draft.

30. Ravens: Kingsley Suamataia, OT, BYU

Suamataia is a traits based selection here. The BYU OT is raw, but the ceiling is high. Ronnie Stanley seems to be done and RT was already weak. They should look to add a Tackle early in the Draft.
Other Scenarios: OT Amarius Mims, WR Xavier Worthy

31. 49ers: Tyler Guyton, OT, Oklahoma

SO many first round Tackles this year. Guyton is massive at 6'8", though he could put a little more weight on his frame. He'll be able to play either OT spot in this league, but needs some development.

32. Chiefs: Chop Robinson, OLB/DE, Penn State

EDGE is not the most pressing need for the Chiefs, but can they really pass up Robinson if he falls this far? Maybe it's time for KC to stop relying on the offense to be running the show. A defensive front of Chop Robinson, George Karlaftis, and Chris Jones could make Patrick Mahomes the best game manager in the history of the NFL.
