First Stab

The free agent store has been raided. All that remain are dented and nearly-expired canned goods like Joel Bitonio and Kevin Zeitler. Time for my first mock draft of the season. Two rounds.

Round 1

Picks 1-16 Picks 17-32 Round 2
17.
Kayden Proctor , OT , Alabama
DET needs to reestablish that dominant O-line identity. Move Penei Sewell to the blindside and plop Proctor in at RT. Bada bing, bada boom.
18.
Caleb Downs , S , Ohio State
Given the injury concerns and his less-than-elite athleticism, this is a more comfortable range for Downs than the top-10, IMO. Just so happens that the Caleb Downs Goldilocks Zone is right where the Vikings - with tumbleweeds at safety - are sitting.

If it turns out that Downs does indeed have a degenerative knee, I think we see the first DT pop off here. It could be any one of Kayden McDonald, Caleb Banks or Peter Woods. MIN's D-line situation is just as dire as the situation at safety.
19.
Caleb Banks , DT , Florida
Bobby Brown III and Tershawn Wharton are just D-line Band-Aids. A case can be made for any one of Banks, McDonald or Woods here; I'm going with the upside of the massive Banks.
20.
Kayden McDonald , DT , Ohio State
Kenny Clark needs to be moved off the nose in Christian Parker's system. Enter this draft's premier run-stuffer. The Cowboys just hope McDonald isn't Mazi Smith 2.0.
21.
Ty Simpson , QB , Alabama
Aaron Rodgers is 42 freakin' years old, and his annual "should I stay or should I go" routine ran its course years ago. It's time to move on in Pittsburgh. New coach, new QB, right?

I get that Ty Simpson at 1.21 stinks of Kenny Pickett at 1.20, but if you wanna hit a home run, you gotta keep swinging. Will Howard isn't the answer.
22.
Vega Ioane , G , Penn State
Squeaky clean fit. Assuming the Bolts aren't thinking about a Trevor Penning reclamation project, Ioane hits the ground running at LG.
23.
Omar Cooper , WR , Indiana
This is under the assumption that A.J. Brown will be traded. If Brown and PHI can somehow mend fences, then Caleb Lomu, Max Iheanachor and Blake Miller would all be considered as RG/future RTs.
24.
Caleb Lomu , OT , Utah
Athletic and technically sound, Lomu is a little more strength and nasty away from becoming a solid LT.
25.
Keldric Faulk , DE , Auburn
At 6-6/276 with 35-inch arms, Faulk is a Dennis Allen 4-3 DE if there ever was one. Faulk is raw, but could ease into action behind fellow EDGE pterodactyls Montez Sweat (6-6/270/36-inch arms) and Dayo Odeyingbo (6-5/282/35-inch arms).
26.
Cashius Howell , DE , Texas A&M
Natural 3-4 EDGE with elite get-off. Would work well in a rotation with Greg Rousseau and Bradley Chubb. Could hold his own as a starter once Chubb inevitably succumbs to injury.
27.
K.C. Concepcion , S , Texas A&M
Concepcion could challenge aging journeyman Christian Kirk at slot WR. The 'Niners want plenty of reinforcements at WR after being reduced to the likes of Demarcus Robinson last season.
28.
Peter Woods , DT , Clemson
HOU's DT room is surprisingly uninspiring. Sheldon Rankins is 32 and could be a cap casualty after this season. Woods is a lump of clay with Pro Bowl upside.
29.
Jermod McCoy , CB , Tennessee
Smooth-hipped with CB1 potential, McCoy is only available because he hasn't worked out during the predraft process.
30.
Dillon Thieneman , S , Oregon
Thieneman isn't getting a lot of love from experts like Lance Zierlein and Lindey's Draft Preview, and I'm not sure why. Productive, versatile and hyper-athletic (9.67 RAS), Thieneman would be an instant upgrade from any current DB on MIA's roster.
31.
Akheem Mesidor , DE , Miami
Talented but over-aged, Mesidor would be high-quality insurance should Harold Landry's injury woes continue. You can never have too many EDGE rushers.
32.
Max Iheanaschor , OT , Arizona State
Instant starter at RG could provide insurance at RT in case the injury bug starts to pester Abraham Lucas again.
