Predictive Mock 2.0
My draft predictions one week out, with full writeups. This draft will be a chaotic one.
Round 1
Picks 1-16
Picks 17-32
Most likely tackle, really depends on the shade they're looking for. Miller might seem like a reach, given the hype Freeling and Proctor have gotten, but we know the Lions beat to their own drum anyways. Miller is a college wrestler and seems like a guy Campbell would fall in love with. Proctor could be an option, but Blake Miller certainly has a higher floor week 1.
Either Thienemann or McCoy. And I think McCoy. Teams will be willing to take a chance with him not playing 2025 given his 2024 tape, and corner is a more valuable position.
I'm between Thienemann or a receiver. Although he would be a major upgrade at safety, I think the Panthers are okay with Ransom and Cross for now. Top WRs are also so much more expensive. They can't feel good about Legette, and I think this marks the continual upgrade of the offense around Young. I don't see tackle because Rasheed Walker is a capable starter while they evaluate Ekwonu's future.
Again comes down to what shade of tackle the Browns like. There's been a lot of hype on Proctor, but the word on the street is that he's a riskier bet in a sea of failed Bama tackles.
With Freeling gone, the pick becomes pretty likely, although there's a good chance they like Proctor more anyways. He can develop while Jones starts this season, and will be viewed as his long term replacement. The Thienemann fit is real, but safety is simply a less valued position.
This is one of the teams I really have no idea for. I like to think they'd entertain a trade-back, but I'm having a hard time finding partners the way the board falls. With the McDaniel addition, I tend to think they won't need to prioritize interior O-line or offense in general, at least not from the 22nd pick. I think this might be D-line but I have no idea who. Hortiz has tended to prioritize the guys he likes, so this could look like a reach. I'll say Kayden McDonald to replace Tomlinson as their starting nose.
This is my favorite team, and this year I really don't know. I still fundamentally believe Howie will be thinking trenches first at this pick, but the board simply doesn't fall well for those positions at pick 23. I do believe they trade AJ after June 1st, but I'm not sure any of these WR prospects will interest the Eagles here either. After much deliberation, I'm landing on Iheanachor, given that they've seemingly been looking for a tackle replacement for Lane for years now, and Iheanachor displays incredible upside with his athleticism. The process reminds me of Mailata.
Why not double down on receiver, especially when you draft a riskier prospect like Tyson. Not to mention he automatically upgrades your special teams. This portion of the draft is much harder to guess, so I'll keep these shorter.
The fit makes sense given the Bears could use d-line and Faulk projects to improve their problematic run defense unit. Could also be Thienemann.
This to me feels like Thienemann pretty confidently if he makes it here.
Feels like either Lomu or Aveion Terrell. I'll go with the tackle.
28.
TRADE!! Someone's probably coming for Ty Simpson and this is the likely team trade back. Both the Rams and Cardinals will likely be in on this, and honestly either could win the bidding war.
Chiefs swing on a high upside edge. They probably go D-line here, I think Parker is a real possibility.
Sure, I'll bite on the Bisontis round 1 hype. Realistically could be anyone.
This feels like an edge rusher, given that AJ Brown will likely be a member of the Pats on June 2nd. With Young's character concerns, it opens the door for this to be Howell. Also could be Malachi Lawrence.
Might not be pretty, but such a weak RB class will push these guys up.
