Round 1

Picks 1-16
1. Bears: Caleb Williams, QB, USC

Chicago has met extensively with Caleb Williams, including having their newest addition- Keenan Allen- attend his workout and talk to him some. Chicago has talked up how great of a person and teammate he is; already trying to get a handle on the PR mess that Williams has created, indicating that this will be their guy. He comes across as having a very me-first mentality, and personally I would have held on to Justin Fields, traded down for a massive amount of draft capital, and grabbed Marvin Harrision Jr. Instead, the consensus first overall pick (and probably the top 4 picks) should come to fruition. Chicago is a storied franchise, and I really hope this pick pans out for them.

2. Commanders: Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU

Washington has tried for as long as I can remember to find the right QB. Hopefully this is their year. Jayden Daniels has not only the physical skillset but also possesses the intangibles and leadership traits teams look for- from what I've read he's getting a lot of positive feedback from his interviews. As Washington knows however, QBs are the hardest players to find. You either get a complete bust, a serviceable backup, a guy that is good enough to hold down the job for a decade but never really putting a team in contention without an elite supporting cast, or very rarely an elite level guy who breaks the bank. Daniels is a guy that I wouldn't be surprised to fall under any part of that spectrum when all is said and done. He could be the next Malik Willis or he could be a better version of Jalen Hurts. I feel his skillset is great in the pocket as well as on the run, and I think he'll ultimately have a great career.

3. Patriots: Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina

It would be interesting to see how big boards would look if Caleb Williams were not in this draft. I think Maye is the real deal. I've heard a lot of people compare him to Mitch Trubisky, but I believe the similarities stop with the position and school. Maye has an interesting personality, but seems to have done well in interviews. The physical tools are there, but he does need some refining in his technique. He seems to have a gunslinger mentality, but some of the great ones have had that as well. Overall he is an exciting player and brings a lot more physically than Mac Jones. I'll steal a line here and say "new regimes mean new quarterbacks....)

4. Cardinals: Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State

Arizona is a potential trade candidate for the Vikings and the skill level (although different skill sets) are not as far apart between Harrison Jr., Nabers, and Odunze as some might think. In my opinion the smart move with this deep receiver class would be to pick up the extra draft capital and still get a stud wideout later, but that's me. I think at the end of the day Harrision is just too good to pass up for the Cardinals.

5. Chargers: Malik Nabers, WR, LSU

Initially I thought that Brock Bowers would be the pick here- a huge addition that puts their offense over the top and make the Chargers Oelite; however the Chargers decided to get rid of all of their wide receivers with the exception of Quentin Johnson who- for some reason- everyone seems to hate there. The Chargers may double dip at the WR position, and Nabers will be a stud for years with Herbert.

6. Giants: Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia

Surprised? It definitely makes sense to slot Rome Odunze here because the Giants have a bunch of small shifty guys but not the large outside target. However Darren Waller can't decide if he wants to retire, and New York has always put a lot of weight on the tight end position. Brock Bowers gives them the big target they need in NY, in the middle of the field, which could open up that deep ball outside. Bowers could be the next Gonzalez/Kelce, fills a need, and the Giants can still find a good wideout later.

8. Falcons: Dallas Turner, OLB, Alabama

Dallas Turner has established himself as the leader to be the first Edge drafted in this class. I think his potential is through the roof- although yes he will be a high draft pick I think that he was a little underrated because of Will Anderson Jr. Dallas Turner is a great player in his own right, and I think Atlanta jumps at the chance to get him.

7. Titans: Joe Alt, OT, Notre Dame

Tennessee is a team that every year seems like they are making steps in the right direction and then..... they end up picking high in the first round. Will Levis has shown signs that he he could develop into a good QB for them, but he definitely needs protection and weapons. This was another spot I thought about Odunze, but with such a deep WR class maybe they can find talent later. Alt seems like the kind of player that can step in and anchor the left side right away which will be great for their young QB's confidence.

9. Bears: Jared Verse, DE, Florida State

I think every single mock draft I've seen lately has Odunze here. But with the addition of Keenan Allen I think that is a luxury pick the Bears just can't afford. Verse gives them some much needed pass rush, and although this may be a little early for him I could see the Bears copying what the Texans did last year with QB/Edge. This could also be a trade down situation because both the Broncos and the Vikings would be chomping at the bit if JJ McCarthy is still around and in this scenarion he would be. By the way, scenarion was a typo but I chose to leave it because I think I'm going to start a new trend. Think "cappin". Drip splash water water.....

10. Jets: Olumuyiwa Fashanu, OT, Penn State

The Jets went from media darlings and favorites to win the SB to picking in the top 10.... Clearly they are in a win now mode and need to protect A-a-ron at all costs. Fashanu didn't have the best combine; however throw on the tape and you see a great football player. He should be a great addition to the Jets for years and will help usher in a new QB once Rodgers calls it a career.

11. Vikings: J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan

The Vikings let Kirk Cousins walk and their JJ was not happy. The Vikings have traded up into the later half of the first so you know they are poised to make a move up even higher. In this scenarion (skurt) they don't have to. JJ McCarthy has picked up a lot of steam recently so I think in reality this is a situation where the highest bidder between the Vikings, Broncos, and Raiders wins.

12. Broncos: Rome Odunze, WR, Washington

I couldn't bring myself to put Bo Nix here despite the Broncos moving on from Russell Wilson. They may look to address QB later in the draft if they can't move up and at this point they may move down. But, Rome Odunze falls in their lap and they have an excellent replacement for Jerry Jeudy.

13. Raiders: Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson

At this point I would like to take a second and say just how much I miss Al Davis. If he were drafting, this is an easy call; Xavier Worthy just set a new combine record in the 40. However, Quinyon Mitchell wasn't far behind that. There seems to be a battle between who is the first corner to go between Mitchell and Wiggins but the Raiders pride themselves in finding "gems" in the draft and the small school mystery will probably intrigue them. In this case though I think it's the right move. With a defensive minded coach this is the pick and if he pans out, could make the Raiders defense nasty.

14. Saints: Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia

Amarius Mims is a large, athletic man. You don't normally think of a 6'8, 340 lb guy as "chiseled" but this dude is a machine. Although he played on the right side at Georgia, I believe he showcased his versatility and could play on the left or right side. This could be a steal. He has overcome guys like Latham and Guyton to be the top RT prospect this year.

15. Colts: Johnny Newton, DT, Illinois

Heeere's Jer'Zhan! Another interesting dude- personality plus. He's not the physical freak we've seen in some early first round DT's lately; he's a "compact" 6'2 305lbs.... but he's a powerful, disruptive force

16. Seahawks: Cooper DeJean, S/CB, Iowa

With the 16th overall pick the Seattle Seahawks select Jason Sehorn... I mean Cooper DeJean! I guess we'll call him a safety because he's a white dude, but DeJean has good coverage ability and could play corner. Seattle just got rid of all their safeties so this makes sense and DeJean's versatility will be greatly appreciated.
