Round 1

Picks 17-32
17. 49ers: Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia

TRADE! Jacksonville trades #17 to San Francisco for #31, #63, and a 2025 3rd rounder.

We've seen John Lynch get aggressive before. His team feels oh-so-close, but a big issue in the Super Bowl was the OL play, particularly on the right side. And stalwart LT Trent Williams can't play forever. Mims is just oozing potential, and this allows the 49ers to jump way up and get a potential stud. And though they are dealing their 2nd rounder away, they still have a 3rd rounder and three picks in the 4th this year to address other needs.

As for the Jags, you'll see that I have them doing some things in Round 2 (and that could be something that would already be known ahead of time), so this allows them to get back into the 2nd Round, as well as getting another Day 2 pick next year.

18. Bengals: Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson

Trent Brown was signed to shore up the need at RT. And while he may not be a long-term solution, the need for a starting boundary corner is pretty dire after losing Awuzie in free agency. Wiggins has sub-4.3 wheels and though he may a bit slight of build, he has enormous cover potential and certainly fits the athletic profile for Duke Tobin.

19. Rams: Jared Verse, DE, Florida State

Verse could realistically end up near the back of the top 10, but in this scenario he's fallen. Though I think Latu is the better pass rusher, perhaps Verse would get the call due to his much cleaner medical evaluation.

20. Steelers: J.C. Latham, OT, Alabama

Latham could end up higher in the pecking order at OL, but if someone like Latham, Mims, or Fashanu is available here, it would be a sensible pick for a team that likely wants to get more powerful upfront.

21. Dolphins: Brian Thomas Jr., WR, LSU

Miami had a ton of holes defensively at the outset of free agency, but have done a decent job of repairing the secondary, adding CB Kendall Fuller and S Jordan Poyer. (They've also added LB Jordyn Brooks and DT Benito Jones.) You could also argue for OL help here, as Robert Hunt departed in free agency, and Terron Armstead is not getting any younger (though he stayed on a re-worked contract). Murphy would have to be a big consideration if he were still there because of the loss of Christian Wilkins, and perhaps Newton could be, too. Having said all this, the Dolphins are almost barren at WR behind their 2 starters, and while Xavier Worthy and Mike McDaniel appeared to be having a bromance at Texas' Pro Day, the fact remains that Thomas is the better prospect. While he doesn't have the record-setting wheels of Worthy, Thomas is damn fast himself, and he offers more size, and Miami can use that in their WR corps.

22. Eagles: Graham Barton, G/OT, Duke

Barton's versatility would give the Eagles the ability to start all 3 of Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens, and Barton at 2 guard spots and at center. All 3 of these guys have center experience and can play guard, so Philly can figure out which alignment works best for them. Howie Roseman just seems more likely to address OL or DL or even WR than he would be to address CB in the 1st Round.

23. Ravens: Tyler Guyton, OT, Oklahoma

TRADE! (See #4 for original details.) Arizona trades #23 to Baltimore for #30 and #93.

Flat-out, as it looks right now, the OL has become a serious concern for a team with obvious Super Bowl aspirations. Baltimore gives up its 3rd Round pick in order to get a much-needed tackle in Guyton, and they jump the Cowboys to do it. The Ravens will still have two 4th Round picks.

As for Arizona, it's just stockpiling as it attempts to accelerate their rebuild. This now gives it FOUR picks in the 3rd Round, to go along with the 3 it will make in this round.

24. Cowboys: Adonai Mitchell, WR, Texas

Dallas let Tyron Smith walk (to the Jets) and lost its starting center from last year in free agency (Tyler Biadasz to Washington). I feel like addressing the OL will once again be a priority...but that doesn't mean that the 1st Round pick must be spent to address this concern. With Guyton off the board, perhaps a long-term need at WR will win the day over someone like Powers-Johnson or the next-best OT. There isn't a long-term receiver on the roster, apart from CeeDee Lamb, unless you really want to give Jalen Tolbert the benefit of the doubt.

25. Broncos: Bo Nix, QB, Oregon

TRADE! (See #12 for details.)

Given how much dead cap the Broncos will be eating on Russell Wilson this year and next, they almost have to try to come away with a possible rookie QB solution either this year or next, as opposed to trying to add a pricey veteran (this is why they were never a realistic possibility for the likes of Cousins, Mayfield, etc.) I think that #12 overall is much too rich for Nix, but after a trade down and recouping a 2nd Round pick (that they didn't have before), this makes more sense. So why Nix over Penix? Well, Sean Payton loves QB's who can process and deliver an accurate ball. Personally, I like Penix more and think he has a far bigger arm and more upside, but I can see Payton preferring Nix.

26. Buccaneers: Jackson Powers-Johnson, C, Oregon

Pass rushers like Latu and Robinson could certainly be in play here. A corner like McKinstry or DeJean could be as well. But the OL need is also enormous, particularly at iOL, so I will slot them JPJ.

27. Cardinals: Chop Robinson, OLB/DE, Penn State

After getting MJH earlier, I feel like these next 2 picks could be spent on the defense for Jonathan Gannon. I'll opt for the insane athleticism of Robinson over the possible medical concerns of Latu for this pick.

28. Bills: Laiatu Latu, DE, UCLA

Buffalo could stand to add to its pass rush corps, particularly with Von Miller not looking the same since his ACL injury. Latu isn't a RAS maven, but he wins anyway, and if not for the medical evaluation he could have been a possible top 10-15 pick. Buffalo is in win-now mode and takes the plunge.

29. Lions: Cooper DeJean, S/CB, Iowa

Yes, the team traded for Carlton Davis. But he's in the final year of his deal, and Cam Sutton was just released in the wake of some disturbing domestic violence allegations. (The guy might be on the lam in Florida, where authorities are apparently looking for him.) DeJean could be interchangeable as a zone corner/nickel back/safety hybrid type, and another versatile DB to join Brian Branch may not be a bad thing. Plus, this is going back to the Iowa pipeline for Brad Holmes.

30. Cardinals: Johnny Newton, DT, Illinois

TRADE! (See #23 for details.)

Arizona could have reasonably picked Newton at #23, and the Illinois man could be this year's version of Calijah Kancey.
To come away with Harrison Jr., Robinson, and Newton in Round 1 would be fantastic for them, and as a result of all the wheeling and dealing, they'd be set up to make four 3rd round picks, giving it flexibility on Day 2.

31. Jaguars: Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB, Alabama

TRADE! (See #17 for details.)

McKinstry still ran a 4.41 at his Pro Day and though he will have surgery to correct his Jones fracture, he's supposed to be ready for training camp. Running that well even though he's not 100% could get him back into the 1st Round, and there's an obvious need for the Jags at the position.

32. Chiefs: Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas

Now that Worthy is back on the board, I just have a hard time seeing KC pass on him because he fits the type of WR that they have liked in the past...only Worthy is even faster than some of their previous choices. And he could possibly take over Marquise Brown's role in the offense in 2025, and, who knows, maybe even be a factor this year. If this pick isn't Worthy, perhaps a tackle like Jordan Morgan could be in play, but I have a feeling that KC will end up addressing the LT need with a free agent like Charles Leno.
