Round 1

Picks 17-32
17. Steelers: Taliese Fuaga, G/OT, Oregon State

Steelers get: Pick 17
Jaguars get: Picks 20 and 98 (R3)

Pittsburgh moves that third round pick it acquired from the Eagles in the Kenny Pickett trade to snipe the Bengals for Taliese Fuaga. The Beaver right tackle fell a bit in this mock (no fault of his own), and he’s a straight up mauler up front, particularly in the run game. He’s the kind of player who would fit great in Pittsburgh. This would also allow them to move Broderick Jones back over to left tackle.

18. Bengals: Troy Fautanu, G/OT, Washington

Whether Troy Fautanu ends up at guard or tackle, he’s a guy ready to step right into a starting lineup. He would immediately challenge Cordell Volson for the starting left guard spot, and also provide swing tackle depth behind Orlando Brown and Trent Brown.

19. Rams: Chop Robinson, OLB/DE, Penn State

Perhaps a small surprise here, but after Dallas Turner, there doesn’t appear to be a true consensus on the #2 EDGE rusher off the board. Especially with question marks surrounding the health of UCLA’s Laiatu Latu. The Rams could still choose Latu, or go with FSU’s Jared Verse if they want a different element from what Byron Young provides. Chop Robinson is the most similar to Young, and given Young’s success, the Rams may be able to get the most out of Robinson.

20. Jaguars: Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson

Like the Colts, the Jaguars add to their cornerback room to go up against C.J. Stroud and the Texans. Nate Wiggins isn’t the strongest corner in this draft class, but he is thought by some to be the best pure cover corner.

21. Cardinals: Jared Verse, DE, Florida State

Cardinals get: Pick 21
Dolphins get: Picks 23 and 138 (R5)

Dream scenario for Arizona to get Jared Verse and have to give up very little to get him. I love this fit across from B.J. Ojulari as Verse excels converting speed to power. His athletic profile is very similar to Will Anderson, who won the defensive Rookie of the Year award last season.

22. Eagles: Laiatu Latu, DE, UCLA

How high or low Laiati Latu goes will all depend on how teams feel about him medically. Latu was forced to medically retire while at Washington with a neck issue. He got back into the game at UCLA, and was one of the premier pass rushers in the nation. In terms of on the field, Laiatu is perhaps the most accomplished EDGE guy in the class. Philadelphia has Josh Sweat coming up on free agency, Latu could make sense here. I’ve also heard offensive tackle could be a consideration here with the Eagles. DB would make sense, but they haven’t taken a first round DB since Lito Sheppard in 2002.

23. Ravens: Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia

Ravens get: Pick 23
Dolphins get: Picks 30, 93 (R3) and 218 (R6)

Baltimore makes its move up for an offensive tackle, and they take arguably the highest risk/highest reward prospect at the position with Amarius Mims. The Georgia product is huge, athletic and has great feet, but does not have a ton of starting experience and has dealt with injuries.

24. 49ers: Tyler Guyton, OT, Oklahoma

49ers get: Pick 24
Broncos get: Picks 31, 93 (R3) and 215 (R6)

San Francisco is looking for a tackle as well, and they move up for Tyler Guyton. The Oklahoma product has more experience than Amarius Mims, but he’s also raw with a boom or bust element to his profile. The Niners could be a great spot for him with Trent Williams to learn from.

25. Chiefs: Adonai Mitchell, WR, Texas

Chiefs get: Picks 25 and 202 (R6)
Packers get: Picks 32, 173 (R5) and a 2025 3rd round pick

Regardless of what happens with Rashee Rice after he was involved in a major car accident in Texas, wide receiver is a big need for the Chiefs. I feel like Adonai Mitchell would be a great fit as a big, fast receiver who has played some of his best football in the College Football Playoff, and against Alabama early in the season when he gave Terrion Arnold and Kool-Aid McKinstry fits.

26. Buccaneers: Graham Barton, G/OT, Duke

Tough call here between Barton, Cooper DeJean or Kool-Aid McKinstry, but I am going to give them the interior O-Lineman. While Barton played mostly left tackle at Duke, he played some center for Duke and that may be where he ends up as a pro. This would fill a major need for the Buccaneers.

27. Cardinals: Cooper DeJean, S/CB, Iowa

If the first round for the Cardinals ends with them having Rome Odunze, Jared Verse and Cooper DeJean, they would have to be over the moon. DeJean is long, athletic, has ball skills, can play safety or corner and even return punts. He only falls this far due to injuries and questions over whether he can handle a full-time cornerback role in the NFL.

28. Seahawks: Jackson Powers-Johnson, C, Oregon

According to things I have read online, it sounds like the late first round is closer to the ceiling of where Jackson Powers-Johnson is expected to be drafted. He hits that ceiling here, going 28th to the Seahawks. He should be able to start right away either at guard or center.

29. Lions: Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB, Alabama

Detroit is a bit of a tough projection here as I could see them going O-Line, D-Line or even receiver here rather than cornerback. With Kool-Aid McKinstry testing well at his pro day workout, he’s one of a handful of guys who would make sense in the first round for the Lions.

30. Dolphins: Jer'Zhan Newton, DT, Illinois

Johnny Newton is a bit reminiscent of Calijah Kancey a year ago as an undersized, athletic defensive tackle with pass rush chops. If Miami wants to look for a Christian Wilkins replacement early, he’s a guy they’ll take a look at. The offensive line (maybe Jordan Morgan) could also garner consideration for the Dolphins in Round 1.

31. Broncos: Bo Nix, QB, Oregon

Right now, Jarrett Stidham would be the likely Week 1 starter at QB for the Broncos. That’s not ideal. Bo Nix is a guy who can get the ball out quickly, which could make him a solid fit in Sean Payton’s offense. If they’re going to draft Nix or Washington’s Penix, moving back a couple of times and getting some extra draft capita before doing so like in this mock would be ideal.

32. Falcons: Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas

Falcons get: Picks 32 and 91 (R3)
Packers get: Picks 43 (R2), 74 (R3) and 143 (R5)

One final pick, and we have one final trade. Xavier Worthy gets to go to the Falcons and catch some passes from Kirk Cousins. His lightning quick 4.21 speed can’t be taught, and would be an excellent complement to Drake London on the other side.
